Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

When the Wind Blows[]

Book[]

  • Anvilicious to some, but mostly Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped.
  • Fridge Horror - The bags are so the government will have an easier time collecting the bodies. It's rendered moot, since everyone's implied to be dead.
  • Needs More Love - Not so much in Europe and Japan, but the movie (and the book) isn't so much as well known in North America.
  • Nightmare Fuel
  • Tear Jerker - Usually around the point Hilda's hair starts falling out, until the end.
    • Actually, anything near the end of the story is considered a possible tearjerker - if you think about the possible consequenses for a bit.
  • What Do You Mean It's Not for Kids?
    • This book gets mistakenly shelved in the children's sections of British public libraries all the time. Many libraries put a massive 'ADULT SECTION ONLY' sticker on the front.
    • This book was quite deliberately on the Queensland primary school curriculum at least ten years ago, as part of some vital anvil dropping.[1]
  • The Woobie - Both Jim and Hilda Bloggs, though Hilda is more of a woobie than her husband due to coming down with radiation sickness first.

Film[]

  • Animation Age Ghetto
  • Crowning Music of Awesome - The opening theme is by David Bowie, for crying out loud!
    • Roger Waters and his solo band did the remaining soundtrack, and there are two vocal songs on it, Towers Of Faith and Folding Flags, both of which are extremely haunting.
  1. While Australia doesn't even have nuclear power, they export a lot of uranium for other countries to do nuclear stuff that may or may not include bombs. Just imagine their maniacal laughter the next time you play DEFCON - they've made the winning move.
