• Awesome Music: The theme. Tom Jones actually passed out after holding that really long note at the end.
  • Johnny Cash and Shirley Bassey also recorded their own themes (the latter was called "Mr Kiss-Kiss Bang-Bang"); the Tom Jones one was just deemed the best. But both of them are pretty good in their own ways (though the Cash one is a bit out-of place since it's country).
• Big Lipped Alligator Moment: The fight between SPECTRE agents and Navy SEALs is momentarily interrupted when they're attacked by a shark, which is promptly driven off.
  • Which isn't all that strange when you consider the amount of people who'd been shot with harpoons at that point.
• Evil Is Sexy: Fiona Volpe, the villain who tries to kill Bond and is played by the beautiful Luciana Paluzzi.
• Fair for Its Day: Having the girl be the one who actually kills the Big Bad seems pretty feminist for 1965. To this day, Domino remains one of only two Bond Girls to kill their film's primary villain.
• Fetish Fuel: Largo telling Domino how he's going to torture her.
  • Fiona Volpe and her inclination towards rough sex.
• Narm:
  • Bond clobbering SPECTRE Number Six in the opening is a well-staged and hard-hitting fight scene, but it's undermined by the fact that Bond's opponent is a guy in drag.
    • The sheer amount of furniture destroyed during the aforementioned clobbering can also induce a few chuckles.
  • Bond on the overcranked stretching machine Death Trap is supposed to be something that has the audience on the edge of their seats, but it just looks ridiculous. Quite frankly, he looks like he's humping the table.
  • The name "Disco Volante". Yes, it means "Flying Saucer" in Italian, but "disco" has other connotations nowadays.
    • Even then, "Flying Saucer" is hardly an intimidating name for a boat.
• Nightmare Fuel:
  • The death of Angelo Palazzi (the Major Derval imposter). He's unable to escape from his seat when the Avro Vulcan is sinking, and then Largo comes at him with a large knife...
  • In the SPECTRE meeting, Blofeld electrocutes one of the members in his chair for embezzling from their drug-dealing operation in the United States, but only after grilling another, totally innocent henchman. While Largo looks unamused by seeing one of his fellow SPECTRE board members get killed, the others can only look in sheer horror as Number Nine is brutally zapped. A clear message is sent to all of Blofeld's mooks: betray him, and you will suffer the consequences.
  • The fate of a mook that Emilio Largo feeds to his sharks, you get an image from beneath the surface that turns red.
  • When Bond falls into the pool with one of Largo's mooks, instead of helping him, Largo has the pool closed and releases the sharks on them both. Bond escapes by stabbing the mook with a knife, leaving him for the sharks.
  • Largo torturing Domino once he finds out that she's been helping Bond.
• Older Than You Think: In the original novel, Bond gets sent to Shrublands to "detox".
• One-Scene Wonder: Patricia Fearing the nurse, especially when she's out of uniform and being massaged. This is true on a larger level, too. Due to a dispute with her agent, Fearing's actress Molly Peters was unable to follow up on the career bump even one-scene Bond girls usually got - she never landed another major film role. An unfortunate waste of such a lovely actress.
• Seinfeld Is Unfunny: The plot of using a nuclear weapon to extort a ransom was considered a groundbreaking idea when this film came out. Now it's become one of the most cliched Evil Plans in the book.
• So Okay It's Average: While it was a huge box-office success on its initial release, in retrospect, it's probably the least-discussed film from Sean Connery's run in the role. Whereas the previous three films are seen as all-time classics and the following You Only Live Twice being silly but iconic, and Diamonds Are Forever being the first serious misfire in the series, this one's generally only remembered for the controversy behind the scenes (which led to the subsequent creation of Never Say Never Again), as well as the title sequence and Tom Jones's theme song, both of which are considered strong contenders for the best in the series.
• Special Effect Failure: The final battle on the Disco Volante is obviously sped up.
• Tear Jerker:
  • Paula Caplan is captured by Largo's men and tortured. When Bond finds her, she's already committed suicide with a cyanide capsule.
  • Bond telling the truth to Domino about her brother's death... and this comes right after both of them enjoyed an underwater makeout session.
• Tough Act to Follow: Thunderball is still well-regarded in its own right. However, it usually isn't considered as good as its predecessor either, especially since the latter film is one of the biggest contenders for best in the series.
• Values Dissonance:
  • Bond blackmails a civilian woman into sleeping with him. The best you can say is he didn't intend to do it, but he's quite willing to take advantage of her misconception. The fact that she's wearing a big goofy grin indicates she's deliberately Playing Hard to Get, but that doesn't make it much less creepy. Even worse is that the book simply had Bond flirt with Fearing, agree on a date and do it consensually later on.
  • The cold open has a SPECTRE agent Disguised in Drag give himself away because there's no way a woman would ever open a car door for herself. This Spot the Thread moment really wouldn't work today.
  • These days, the filmmakers would never get away with harpooning a real, live shark on-screen.
• Visual Effects of Awesome: The underwater scenes in this movie are revolutionary for the time period, but what's truly impressive is how well they've aged. Most of the underwater sequences, especially the battle between Largo's henchmen and the Navy SEALs at the end, still look downright beautiful today.
• The Woobie: Domino. She's the mistress of a sadist, her brother gets murdered and Bond is using her to get to Largo.
