Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

  • Acceptable Religious Targets: The only religious character that's even implied to be religious, David, is a cannibalistic ephebophile. In a world of Grey and Gray Morality, David is the only truly evil one. Given how Christianity usually gets pot-shots taken at it in Uncharted, one has to wonder if someone at Naughty Dog had a particularly bad experience with religion.
  • Broken Base: Joel not allowing the Fireflies to study Ellie's immunity to reverse engineer a vaccine. There are those who view it as totally selfish and those who view it as understandable, arguing that the chances they could have done it were actually quite low.
  • Franchise Original Sin: Most complaints that people have about the second game's more... controversial story aspects; the Darker and Edgier tone, the Cast Full of Gay, the production team that "ruined" the second game; can be found in this one, its DLC or its Expanded Universe. The difference is that since this game was largely framed through Joel, whose Dark and Troubled Past was established through the Distant Prologue and Offstage Villainy, the dark nature of the characters didn't weigh too heavily on the players. Likewise, most of the more overtly feminist and LGBT aspects were established mainly in the comics and DLC, though several exist in this game, so those who hadn't consumed them weren't ready to see it take centre stage in the second game.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With the other PlayStation exclusives, particularly sister series Uncharted. Has led to much Fanfic Fuel about what other PlayStation characters might be getting up to in the Zombie Apocalypse.
  • Hate Sink: David. Other characters may be Base Breakers whose actions are viciously dissected and debated but the fandom has nothing but hatred for this vile excuse for a human.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Several people noted Ellie's resemblance to Elliot Page, before Naughty Dog changed her character model to remove the similarities. And then at E3 2012, Sony unveiled Quantic Dream's new title, Beyond - Two Souls... starring Page himself. Cue Epileptic Trees springing up that Ellie's character model changing was down to this.
  • Hype Backlash: Unavoidably so. After hundreds of "Best Game of the Year" awards, being hyped up as the best thing that the PlayStation 3 had to offer, and hailing it as one of the best video games of all time, it was no surprise that some people found it overhyped.
  • Misaimed Fandom: For all that the right-wingers decried Part II for "going woke", The Last of Us was heavily influenced by a left-wing philosophy to political issues, particularly the Israel-Palestine conflict.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Picture a fungus literally blooming out of the entire top half of your face after having grown into your brain to take control of it and thus use you as its own personal vessel. It only gets worse from there. Then remind yourself that the fungus is real.
  • Paranoia Fuel: That plant that caused the Zombie Apocalypse actually exists.
