The Dalek Chronicles

One of the earliest, if not the earliest, pieces of media in the Doctor Who Expanded Universe, the Dalek Chronicles... well chronicles the early adventures of the Daleks from their creation as they struggle to establish themselves as an interstellar power.

A series of 104 page single-issue comics published by TV Century 21 magazine, the series ran from 1965 to 1967 and quickly proved itself extremely popular among the early fandom, becoming one of the centerpieces of Dalekmania.

Many aspects of the series, such as the Dalek Emperor, Black Daleks, and Dalek flying saucers.

Notably, the series didn't feature even one mention of the Doctor or the TARDIS.

Tropes used in The Dalek Chronicles include:

• Adaptation Name Change: In The Daleks, the ancestors of the Daleks were called the Dals. Here the race has always been the Daleks.
• Adaptation Species Change: The Mechonoids were established as human built robots in later EU works. Here they're a race of Mechanical Lifeforms.
• Adaptational Heroism: The Daleks still fully embrace A Nazi by Any Other Name by they're a good deal more affable towards one another here.
• Adaptational Villainy:
  • In The Daleks, the Thals struck first and the Daleks (or Dals) retaliated before succumbing to He Who Fights Monsters. Here the Daleks were going to strike first before a meteor storm struck Skaro.
  • In The Chase, the Mechonoids were just an ordinary species that the Daleks waged war on. Here the Mechonoids are Galactic Conquerors that give the Daleks a run for their money.
• Alien Invasion: How the Daleks pass the time.
• Alternate Continuity: The series is utterly irreconcilable with the television show.
• Death World: Fitting its status as the Dalek homeworld, everything on Skaro is trying to kill you.
• The Dragon: The Black Dalek.
• Earth Is the Center of the Universe: Even though it never appeared, the Daleks seem to think that conquering Earth would make them the undisputed masters of the galaxy.
• Evil Versus Evil: The Daleks vs. the Mechonoids.
• Eviler Than Thou: Villain Protagonists they may be, the Daleks are still the most evil creatures in the galaxy.
• Flying Saucer: The Dalek fleet.
• King Mook: The Dalek Emperor.
• The Napoleon: The Dalek Emperor is actually the shortest of all the Daleks.
• Only Sane Man: Lodian is the only one of the three humanoid Daleks to realize that the metal Daleks are monsters that need to be destroyed.
• Planet Looters: The Daleks of course. They spend their days attacking planets stealing advanced technology and resources. They step their game up in their war against the Mechonoids.
• Prequel: The last strip attempts to tie into The Dalek Invasion of Earth.
• Reality Ensues:
  • After walking around a heavily irradiated wasteland unprotected and overworking themselves, Yarvelling and Zolfian drop dead.
  • The Daleks got FTL travel via reverse engineering the technology. It takes them a few tries, thirteen to be precise, until they fully understand how it works.
  • The Dalek Empire is only just starting out. Not everyone has heard of them.
• Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When the Amarylls prove too much for them, the Daleks just up and leave Alvega.
• Slice of Life: Part of the series' appeal is that it just shows the Daleks conquering planets on a day to day basis.
• The Starscream: Zeg, the Red Dalek.
• Super Prototype: The first Dalek became the Emperor.
• Sore Loser: Unable to conquer Alvega, the Daleks blow it up.
• Villain Protagonist: The Daleks but most notably the Emperor.
• War Is Hell: The Zerovians note that the Dalek/Mechonoid has destroyed countless planets.
