TV Tropes has quickly become the website I visit the most (after it was mentioned on Atop the Fourth Wall)... however, I use the internet so much that I consider it a replacement to television, you can take that statement for what it's worth.
- Bob and George
- Brawl in the Family
- Darkwing Duck (in truth, TV Tropes was HALF of the reason I got into this show)
- Freemans Mind
- Homestuck
- Loserz
- Marble Hornets
- My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic: After reading the pages for the two part pilot at around 3AM in August (2011, at time of writing), I decided to look up the episodes on YouTube. And now I'm a brony. In fact, thanks to discovering their pages here, I also really love the following fan fics:
- Order of the Stick
- Super Smash Bros.: I originally only had one game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. But after I read the game series' page, I got really hooked, and now currently own all three games.
- Xkcd (not 100% sure)

This is what the wiki is for - feeding my Archive Binge tendencies. I seem to seek out the little gems that no-one has heard of, and that I have a devil of a time convincing people to read/watch.
- Avatar: The Last Airbender: Natch. I wasn't disappointed, either. I should say that it isn't anime - there's far too many Western animation elements for that. This also introduced me to shipping and the cracky goodness of CAPSLOCK livejournal communities.
- The Adventures of Dr. McNinja
- Irresponsible Captain Tylor: It's a crying shame this isn't well-known. I love Tylor.
- Runaways
- El Goonish Shive
- Empowered: I really do read it for the story. My experience went like this: "Ooh sexy woman with clothing damage, must read." - Later - "Okay, fanservice that reduces the subject to a quivering wreck is not funny." - Later - "Thugboy/Emp OTP for evah, yo!"
- Deadpool
- PS238: Needs More Love. Peanuts kids with superpowers, the Charlie Brown analogue is a Weirdness Magnet, but receives training to survive. What's not to love?
- Sailor Nothing: Was my first introduction to Darker and Edgier.
- The Acts of Caine: Had to resort to a sneaky copy, 'cause it isn't out in UK-land, but I'm glad I did.
- Ben 10: I liked the sound of it, so I got a copy of this to watch it with my nephew.
- Looney Tunes: Was already a fan, but finding them was another matter.
- Lucky Star: Read of Minoru's epic freakout and watched it just to see him go off. As a side-effect, I now have PSL for Kuroi-sensei and want to go to Japan to check out Maiden's Road.
- Order of the Stick
- Tom Lehrer: "The Masochism Tango", what else? Thank you TV Tropes, for introducing me to his songs.
- No Bra: Never have I felt so confused about my sexuality. Yuki... sexy... but... GUY! ...but ...sexy...
- Omamori Himari: Catgirls never did it for me, but aggressive, playful samurai catgirl? Yes.
- Aqua Knight: I was pleasantly surprised to see the author of Battle Angel Alita had tried his hand at Low Fantasy, and done it well.
- Fanfiction in general, specifically the Fan Fic Recommendations for Mahou Sensei Negima and Bleach ("Uninvited Guests" is the funniest fanfic ever. EVER).
- The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer: Villain Protagonists? In my whimsical end-of-the-world-is-nigh manga? It's more readable than you think.
- Ciaphas Cain: Read its quote/entry on Dojikko, then the entry itself, then went straight out and bought the Hero of the Imperium collection. I'm becoming interested in tabletop Warhammer 40000 and the other novels as a side effect — the Rule of Cool setting pleases me.
- Mysterious Girlfriend X: Read the entry, thought the concept was weird, unique and cool, checked it out and started reading.
- GaoGaiGar: From What Do You Mean It's Not Awesome??
- Mystery Science Theater 3000: I'd never watched this before apart from the movie, but now... well, all the quotes made me check it out, though I'm not masochistic enough to sit through really bad movies, even if they generated the best snarking. One of these days I will actually sit through a full episode rather than hunting out "Best-of" clips.
- Questionable Content: Can't remember where I read about it, but it was on this wiki.
- Dollhouse: Watched up to the third episode because it was a Whedon series, then dropped it because it didn't engage me. Gave it one more try when it started popping up in other entries, and pushed through to the other side of ep. 6.
- Kimi ni Todoke: The forums were gushing about it, I checked it out, fell for it, hard, and became that thread's most enthusiastic poster. Produced the most emotional reaction I've had to an anime ever. A refreshingly straight love story — no hilarious misunderstandings, no contrived stupidity and it makes sense.
- Ai Kora: Love Hina starring Great Fetish Pervert Onizuka. What's not to love?
- B Gata H Kei: First episode is a living nightmare of Cliché Storm hell, but you soon pass through to the sweet sex comedy centre. Another forum find.
- Bunny Drop: Wondering at the odd concept in the entry (someone raising his 6-year-old aunt?), I began reading. What I got was an honest lesson in becoming an adoptive parent. It's the yang to Yotsuba's yin, especially as it averts Not Allowed to Grow Up.
- Nana to Kaoru: Three people namechecked this, so what else could I do? I can honestly say it's been educational.
- Animaniacs/Pinky and The Brain: With all the quotes, I had to check them out — I wasn't disappointed. It was very very very very very very very very very very *bonk* funny. My 8-year-old nephew loved it, though he liked PATB more.
- The Ren and Stimpy Show: And this was the one he liked most of all. Seriously, he wet himself laughing at Powdered Toast Man. I nearly joined him.
- Para-Ten: A watercoloured webcomic-cum-mood piece that doesn't resemble anything I've seen. The closest comparison would be Shadow of the Colossus (Scenery Porn and loneliness).
- Himawari: One offhand link in the forum led me to this. I would have never even imagined this existed, but here it is. Imagine a Lighter and Softer Naruto but with all the cool ninja tricks intact. (Later) Ecch, only watch this if you have "Easily Amused" tattooed on your forehead. Looks nice, shows promise but NOTHING HAPPENS.
- Planetes: In the "Hard SF" thread, the one series that kept popping up was this one. ONE episode - that's all it took for me to fall in fan-love.
- Gunnerkrigg Court: I tried - really tried - not to add more webcomics to my daily list. This little slow-burner made me break that rule. Charming, eerie, expressive Urban Fantasy about a strange girl in a stranger school.
- Blip: Needs More Love. What looks like "Breezily sarcastic slacker hangs out with her friends" reveals itself to be something more. You know how sometimes you have the feeling that Fate is holding you back? For her - it is.
- Erfworld: Don't quite remember where, but one of the articles had a link. Tabletop RPG gamer gets transported to a 'game' world (or is it?). He soon discovers that it's not that much fun when you see people die in front of you. They discover that Humans Are Cthulhu.
- Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple: Interesting fighting shonen manga that for once tries not to break Willing Suspension of Disbelief and has a female lead who isn't Overshadowed by Awesome.

- Quite a lot of Western Animation that I might not have watched otherwise. The very idea of a Periphery Demographic: it might not be aimed at me, but if it's enjoyable enough, who cares?
- Avatar: The Last Airbender: I had seen some isolated season one episodes before, but after seeing it mentioned again and again on this site, I decided that it might be more than just another kids' show and started watching it from the start. Boy am I glad I did.
- Gargoyles
- My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic: Had I been told in the recent past that not only would I soon be watching a My Little Pony show, but also greatly enjoy it, I would have laughed at the idea. However, after seeing it mentioned under Periphery Demographic, I gave it a try and am now officially hooked.
- ThunderCats (2011)
- WITCH: Another show that I was aware of, but that I was convinced to watch by this site. I still think the Guardian costumes look ridiculous, though.
- Better Days: Despite all of its flaws, I found it to be an interesting read.
- Chronicles of the Kencyrath
- Eversion: A real piece of art.
- Gankutsuou: My first anime series.
- I Wanna Be the Guy: Never managed to get very far, though.
- Sonichu, much to my dismay.
- That Guy With The Glasses: Another site that soaks up so much of my precious spare time...
- You Have to Burn The Rope

- Twilight - I wanted to find out what all the fuss was about.
- Fullmetal Alchemist
- Code Geass
- Death Note
- Anime and manga in general, really.
- Comicbooks in general, but especially Dark Age.
- Discworld
- And that's just scratching the surface.
User:Agent Alpha[]
- Death Note: I'd read tons of references to it here, and all it took was a friend's solid recommendation to get me watching.
- Fullmetal Alchemist: Reading the manga and watching the Brotherhood anime.
- The Dresden Files
- Samurai Champloo: Having already seen Cowboy Bebop, I just had to watch it.
- Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog: Its Trope Overdosed nature compelled me!
- Noir
- Gunnerkrigg Court: Again, a combo of site references and friend's enthusiasm drew me.
- Avatar: The Last Airbender
User:Anathema[]
- Doctor Who: Well, the fact that Douglas Adams had worked for the show at one point and even used elements from his work there in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency had already piqued my interest, but it was ultimately TV Tropes that got me to watching the show.
- Order of the Stick: I'd never even heard of it before. Now not only am I addicted, my little brother heard me mention it and decided to have a look. He's a fan now too.
- That Guy With The Glasses: Okay, I watched Fern Gully as a child. I watched it a lot. Someone linked to The Nostalgia Critic and The Nostalgia Chick's review of it . . . and I was hooked to his reviews at least. I probably would have just spent my time watching reviews by the Nostalgia Critic and the Nostalgia Chick reviews if it wasn't for people on this wiki mentioning Linkara . . . so I watched one episode of Atop the Fourth Wall, and was hooked. And given the number of crossovers with Spoony and the awesomeness that is Doctor Insano, I was soon watching The Spoony Experiment as well. I now regularly watch the videos of several other Channel Awesome members as well.
- Xkcd: I'd heard of it before, but it was TV Tropes that got me interested.
- Thursday Next: Okay, Jasper Fforde is now one of my favorite authors. I'd never even heard of him before.
- Mystery Science Theater 3000: Oddly enough, I started watching this because of the MSTed version of The Eye of Argon . . . the fact that anyone could turn anything that awful into anything that good in Fanfic made it clear that the actual show must be pretty good.
- Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series: Why on earth would I want to watch a Gag Dub of a children's show that I've never watched about a card game I've never played and have no interest in? Gosh, a lot of people on TV Tropes seem to like it, and the first episode is only around four minutes, I might as well see what all the fuss is about . . . and the rest is history as they say.

- Azumanga Daioh- Got into it after seeing it mentioned on various pages, didn't finish the entire series, but after seeing the anime, I got into(with the help of an internet friend)...
- Yotsuba&!- Technically, I got into it thanks to a friend on Brawl in the Family, but TV Tropes still had a hand in it.
- Chuggaaconroy- I was curious as to what an LP was(even though I've read a screenshot LP of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon before, but I didn't know it was an LP). I found Chuggaaconroy and started watching his videos.
[]
- Angel Beats
- Axis Powers Hetalia
- Blue Exorcist
- Corpse Party
- Deadman Wonderland
- Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is an inversion. It was while I was looking up stuff on this series that I found Tv Tropes.
- Kingdom Hearts
- Lux-Pain
- My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic
- Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors
- Ookamikakushi
- Penny and Aggie
- Persona 3 and Persona 4
- Puella Magi Madoka Magica
- Red String
- And that's just off the top of my head!
User:Anthony Mercer[]
- Without this wiki, I'd never have found out about Homestar Runner!
User:Arya Adrianiel[]
- Death Note
- Fullmetal Alchemist
- The Producers
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer and by extension, Angel.
- The Nostalgia Critic and The Nostalgia Chick
User:Aspen[]
- TV Tropes introduced me to the pure awesomeness that is Axis Powers Hetalia and from that, the wonders of Ho Yay
User:Astonished Lemons[]
- The Dresden Files. What really got me was the example on the Dangerously Genre Savvy page with Nicodemus and Harry. I'd seen it listed all over the site before that, but that was what actually made me seek out the books.
- Kings. Unfortunately too good to last, but it's on Hulu.
- Reaper. Another one cut in its prime, but also on Hulu.
- Merlin.
- Riff Trax
- That Guy With The Glasses Nostalgia Critic/Chick for the win!
- Protectors of the Plot Continuum
- Order of the Stick.
- Dinosaur Comics.
- Antihero for Hire.
- A Madness of Angels and the subsequent books.
- New York Magician and (by extension) the entire Everything2 site.
- The Zombue Hunters
- Sorcery101
- Trying Human
- Garret P.I.
So thank you, TV Tropes. Thank you for giving me so many new things to love. |

- However, I don't play/watch any of these games/shows. The sole exception is Kingdom of Loathing.
- Kingdom of Loathing
- Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
- Shinji and Warhammer 40 K (Stopped reading around the 20th chapter or so. I don't know why.)
- Touhou
- And TV Tropes got me interested in:
Auxdarastrix[]
- Axis Powers Hetalia
- Hellsing
- Inuyasha
- Mahou Sensei Negima
- Ouran High School Host Club
- Also, in general, it is what convinced me that there is more to Anime and Manga than porn.

- Watchmen - the original.
- Fifty Two. And boy am I glad as this served as a Gateway Series to the DC Universe in general, with the help of wiki pages here.
- Gotham City Sirens - I hadn't even heard of until TV Tropes.
- Gotham Central likewise. In retrospect, I actually started reading this before Fifty Two because I knew it was part of the backstory, and it came highly recommended, but while this got me back into comics, I'd say it was Fifty Two that got me back into superheroes.
- Dragon Age. I was considering buying it, but it wasn't until I read about it on the site that I got really excited for its Australian release.
- Batman: The Animated Series. I'd watched it as a kid but reading entries about it is what made me watch the whole series again.
- Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha.
- That Guy With The Glasses. It certainly pays to be the source of page quotes.
- Candy Boy.
- Glee.
- Mai-Otome. I'd seen Mai-HiME before, but not Otome. I wasn't too enticed by the prospect of an elseworlds story, until I read the entry page on it.
- Riff Trax, and, by extension:
- Wicked the novel.
- Sailor Moon Abridged. I think it was Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series that got me to TV Tropes in the first place, so it's suitable that it connected me to other abridged series.
- Rose of Versailles Abridged is what I'm currently watching.
- Xkcd

- Noir - probably through Heterosexual Life Partners.
User:bombthatvideo[]

- all of these were gleaned by the "geez I keep seeing that name on trope pages, let's look over it and see" method.
- Firefly
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
- Discworld
- Deadpool
- Sandman
- Watchmen
User:Blackmagic[]
- MS Paint Adventures and all that entails
- That Guy With The Glasses as a whole
- The Angry Video Game Nerd as a side-effect of the above
- Unskippable
- Zero Punctuation almost captured my interest this way, but one too many cases of Did Not Do the Research ended that.
- Cave Story
- The Slender Man Mythos minus Marble Hornets (the latter was due to a friend)
- Ruby Quest
- Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series
- Sonichu. Arg.
- After Last Season. Arg.
- Dingo Pictures. Arg.
- You know what, all of So Bad Its Horrible. So much for this being a subtrope of Tv Tropes Will Enhance Your Life.
- Then again, there's also all of So Bad It's Good.
- And many more I can't remember off the top of my head.
User:Blue Flame 724[]
- The Angry Video Game Nerd
- Disney Afternoon: Rediscovering childhood
- Cowboy Bebop: Was already a fan of anime, but had never really got into one of the gateway series
- Great Mouse Detective
- That Guy With The Glasses
- Happy Video Game Nerd: One of my favorite reviewers, even if he seemed Narmy at first
- Mickey Mouse: A renewed faith in the character, especially after Epic Mickey
- Phineas and Ferb: The troperiffic nature of drew in my attention. Before, I just saw it as an okay show.
- Understanding the beliefs behind Ralph Bakshi and John Kricfalusi, despite not necessarily being a fan of their work.
User:Brainedby Saucepans[]
- Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei - I came across various references to this amazing anime as soon as I became a Troper, but only when I read the page quote on Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant did I think; "Okay I have got to watch this!" The entire Anime Society at my uni is in TV Tropes' debt.
- Order of the Stick - Had heard of it before, but only when I clicked a random link to it and started reading did I realise how awesome it was.
- The Prisoner - Another one I had heard of but not paid too much attention to, I am currently on the fourth episode of the original series and completely hooked already.
- Neon Genesis Evangelion
- Preacher (Comic Book) - Has gone straight to the top of my favourite
comic booksthings about stuff. Ever - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - You think I don't? WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!?!?

- Some of these examples here are only semi-gateway drugs, while some others are ones I've completely met through TV Tropes. For the semi-gateway drugs, I've known about some of them, before, but TV Tropes made me completely establish them as a part of my life.

- From my favourites list alone:
- Regular Show
- The Adventures of Dr. McNinja
- XKCD... I think.
- Death Note
- Barkley Shut And Jam Gaiden: At first I was meh on this. Now I've played it three times. I really can't get over how good the writing is when it wants to be (and how good it is at being bad the rest of the time).
- Sonic Colors: A Sonic game, by Sonic Team, made recently, and it's good? Would have never known without the help of this site.
- Genetos: this one I probably would have never played.
