Due to the Animation Age Ghetto, super-deformed art styles tend to correlate with an "everyone" rating on the work, and "everyone" ratings tend to correlate with not having a Shower Scene, Shirtless Scene, or any other plot point that would bring to the surface the difficulties of personal hygiene.
