Shinobu Honda is in love with Momoko Naito, her childhood friend. Momoko doesn't answer her feelings, and is preoccupied with her own position as a "morality officer" at their high school.

Meanwhile Shinobu gathers a harem of female admirers, fully exploiting her position as the most popular student at an all-girl institution populated by schoolgirl lesbians — even though she knows that Momoko is not all that charmed by her promiscuity.

Shoujo Sect is a hentai manga by Ken Kurogane, which contains very graphic depictions of sexual activities between girls. It somewhat distinguishes itself from other works in the genre by giving the girls distinct personalities and motivations behind their actions — and the sexual scenes are also usually devoid of over-the-top descriptions. Although Shinobu's antics get the most attention, there are storylines for other girls as well, so the series still has the episodic nature that is so typical in hentai.

An anime has been released, consisting of three episodes released as separate OVAs, with a somewhat altered storyline. The anime tends to focus more on plot than the manga although many sex scenes are still there.

Tropes used in Shoujo Sect include:
  • Adult Child: Momoko's homeroom teacher and lover Kyoko Hayato.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Kirin. Her character blurb in the manga says "she is an illegitimate child of her mother's," but also "the bindi on her forehead is just a hobby of hers, and she has no Indian blood running in her veins."
  • Attempted Rape: At one point in the manga, Shinobu gets pressured into sex by an overzealous admirer.
    • Surprisingly the culprit is the one wanting to be penetrated. As in, grabbing the victim's hand and... you get the idea. All while saying "Shinobu is touching me!"
    • Considering that at least in the anime the relevant clothes were removed and sexual contact was made is this really only "attempted" rape? Doesn't go on for very long, no, but...
  • Big Eater: Momoko is ravenous and well-known for it at school. She even appears with a Jughead-style platter of a dozen wrapped burgers, and offers one to Shinobu in a grudging "well, I guess I can spare one" way.
  • Brother-Sister Incest: Well, the sister/sister variety, since this is a girls love series after all.
  • Buxom Is Better: Inverted by Shinobu, who has small breasts but attracts a large harem of girls. She's a mother figure to some (or maybe not), admired by others, and a lover to still others.
    • In fact Maya teases her about it, sarcastically invoking type-2 Big Breasts, Big Deal in reference to her own rather more substantial assets.
    • Averted generally by the series, with girls running the full range from flat to generously but reasonably endowed.
  • Cast Full of Gay: To the point where most of the cast never questions the sexuality of another girl. There's those nameless classmen in the Utano/Chikae chapter, but that's about it.
  • Closet Key: Shinobu apparently has this effect on other students.
  • Compressed Adaptation: One or the other, based on your point of view. The OVA cuts out almost any part of the manga not dealing with the Shinobu/Momoko story arc. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing depends on whether you want the series to have A) a linear plot, or B) episodic variety.
  • Cute Mute / Magical Girlfriend: Yoshikiri Utano.
  • Distant Finale: Chapter 13.2 of the manga, which shows that Momoko, Shinobu, and Maya are living together and their relationship has evolved into a threesome.
  • * Also, Kurogame's later work 'Isuzu's Counter' looks in some of the other side characters in their early adult years.
  • First Girl Wins / Victorious Childhood Friend: With a twist. Momoko has forgotten they met as kids.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Kai Chikae from the manga is a rare female example, though obviously deeply loves Utano.
  • Hot for Student
  • How Unscientific: The Utano/Chikae chapter of the manga inexplicably involves a magic spell and (according to character descriptions in the back pages) mermaids.
    • The OVA of the series rewrites this scene as being an urban legend within the school (as well as switching which of the two girls the spell is cast on, for some reason).
  • Informed Attractiveness: Shinobu's popularity allegedly hinges on her looks, even though she is not designed prettier than the other girls.
  • Lolicon: Shinobu has "a weakness for women regardless of their age." Not graphic, though. One suspects she has her limits, too.
  • Love Dodecahedron: ... which centers on Shinobu.
  • Meganekko: Shinobu. No, seriously.
  • * "Even in her heart a Meganekko is always wearing glasses, so even if she takes her glasses off she is still a Meganekko!!"
  • Naive Everygirl: Maya.
  • The Ojou: Shinobu. Mixed with some delinquent and Libby tendencies... after all, she does keep Maya & Kirin as servants as well as lovers.
  • Opposites Attract: Shinobu likes Momoko, who has quite a different personality from herself — on the outside.
  • Romantic Two-Girl Friendship: Averted, since any kind of attraction leads to sex sooner or later.
  • Romantic Runner Up: Maya in the OVA, not so much in the Manga.
  • Schoolgirl Lesbians: Practically every character.
  • Sitch Sexuality: Actually, it looks more like being lesbian or bisexual is one of the school's admissions criteria.
  • Twincest: Just a kiss on-screen in manga and anime, as part of a realized Twin Threesome Fantasy. In the manga their end-of-chapter character blurb reads in part "Since they discovered sex (before they learned about fractions) these (identical) twins have been inseparable," so apparently their off-screen relationship is rather more vigorous.
  • Uke:
    • Possibly Shinobu. Discussed amongst her & Momoko during their hookup. She asks Momoko why is it that all the girls want to 'do' her first to which Momoko replies that it's her voice.
    • Played straight with Matsuri in regards to her girlfriend, Kirin.
  • Unlucky Childhood Friend: Shinobu, although you wonder if she's really that unlucky. And she got better.
  • Will They or Won't They?: Between Shinobu and Momoko. They Do.
  • Yuri Genre
