Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

  • Adored by the Network: Adult Swim picked up 70 episodes in May of 2018.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor: One shows up in most episodes.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • "Raising Gazorpazorp" and "Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender" are Dan Harmon's least favorite episodes. He views the former's gender plot as outdated. It's not quite clear why he dislikes the latter but the general theory seems to be because it doesn't follow his story circle.
    • No one seems too proud of "Rickdependence Spray".
  • Descended Creator: Co-creator Justin Roiland voiced the titular duo and several others in the first six seasons.
  • Flip-Flop of God: Who is the Rickest Rick?
    • Justin Roiland thinks it's Rick Prime, highlighting Prime's Lack of Empathy, a trait that other Ricks constantly strive for but can never fully achieve.
    • Dan Harmon thinks it's Rick C-137. As Ricks are naturally self-destructive hedonists, the Rickest Rick would have to not only be the most intelligent but embody that hedonism as well.
  • I Knew It!:
    • "Rickmurai Jack" confirms that Rick's wife and original Beth were killed.
    • Since the Citadel was introduced, it was theorized that Rick and Morty weren't from the same realities. "Rickmurai Jack" confirms this.
    • The same episode led people to theorize that the Rick who killed Rick's family was Morty's grandfather. And "Solaricks" confirmed it.
    • "Unmortricken" confirms the belief that, given how C-137 seems much smarter than the other Ricks, only he and Rick Prime actually invented portal travel on their own.
  • In Memoriam:
    • "Rest and Ricklaxation" is "dedicated" to the writing on Game of Thrones (2011-2016).
    • Season 6 is dedicated to J. Michael Mendel, a producer who died during production.
  • Jossed: "Rickmurai Jack" disproves every fan theory about Evil Morty. It also disproves the belief that in Rick C-137's flashback in "The Rickshank Rickdemption", C-137 was the intruder Rick and the man Rick claimed was his past self was actually Simple Rick.
  • Playing Against Type: Chris Parnell's comedy roles usually have him as an Ambiguously Evil smug bastard in position of power who thinks the rules don't apply to him. Very much the opposite of Jerry Smith.
  • Production Posse: Several Community alum (John Oliver, Jim Rash, Keith David, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, and Alison Brie) lent their voices to the show.
  • Talking to Himself:
    • Justin Roiland voiced both Rick and Morty (and many others) in the first six seasons. Taken Up to Eleven in "The Ricklantis Mixup" where he voices every character bar the commercial announcer and Beth.
    • Starting in "Unmortricken", Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden did the same when alternate Ricks and Mortys showed up.
    • Sarah Chalke voices both Beth and Space Beth.
  • The Other Darrin: On January 24th 2023, Adult Swim announced that they had cut ties with Justin Roiland following his domestic abuse charges. From Season 7 onwards, all his roles, including Rick and Morty, were recast. Ian Cardoni took over the role of Rick, Harry Belden took over the role of Morty and John Allen took over Mr. Poopybutthole.
  • The Wiki Rule: Here.
  • Word of God: The President guessed that he was dealing with the same Rick at the end of "The Rickchurian Mortydate" but decided to just go with it.
