The PAW Patrol

As a Whole

• Awesome Pup Pack: Each pup sports one of these.
• Badass Adorable
• Catchphrase: Each member has either one or two.
  • As a whole, whenever Ryder calls them, the pups all say "Ryder needs us!"
• Color-Coded Characters: Each member has a differently colored uniform:
  • Ryder: Red and White
  • Chase: Dark Blue
  • Marshall: Red
  • Rocky: Green
  • Skye: Pink
  • Rubble: Yellow
  • Zuma: Orange

• So Last Season: They each get brand new powers to defeat the Copycat in the new Mighty Pups Charged Up sub-series in Season 7.
• Talking Animals: All of the pups can talk. Curiously, none of the other animals have the same ability. Until the introduction of Mr. Nibbles/The Copycat, that is.
• Transforming Mecha: All the pups have a pup house that transforms into a vehicle corresponding to their job. Ryder's ATV can also turn into a jetski and a snowmobile.

Ryder

• Anime Hair
• Badass in Distress/Distressed Dude: In Pups Save Ryder and Mighty Pups.
• Catchphrase:
  • "No job is too big, no pup is too small!"
  • "All right! PAW Patrol is on a roll!"
  • "Whenever you're in trouble, just yelp for help."
• Heroes Love Dogs: He's the leader of the PAW Patrol, which consists of puppies.
• The Leader
• Not So Above It All: Although he's quite mature for his age, there are still times he acts like other kids his age, such as playing video games shortly before getting a call from somebody, or hating Brussels sprouts, as mentioned below.
• Why Did It Have to Be Brussels Sprouts?: The episode Pups Save a Toof reveals that he doesn't like Brussels sprouts.
• Wise Beyond Their Years: He's only 10, and yet he professionally runs a rescue organization.

Chase

• Adorkable: He tries to act professional, but sometimes fails, resulting in this.
• Catchphrase:
  • "Chase is on the case!"
  • "These paws uphold the laws!"
• The Leader: Takes this role whenever Ryder's not around.
• Make Me Wanna Shout: When he and Marshall high five each other in Mighty Pups Charged Up: Pups Versus the Copycat, Chase gets a supersonic bark.
• The Nose Knows: His sense of smell is so good, he can name jelly beans by color in Pups Save the Easter Egg Hunt.
• Not So Above It All: As mentioned above, he tries to act professional, but there are still a few times where he slips up.
• Police Are Useless: Not the case here.
• Sneeze of Doom: Whenever cats get involved in a rescue, expect this trope to happen, because Chase is allergic to them.
• Super Speed: Gains this in Mighty Pups.
• Why Did It Have to Be the Dentist?: Pups Save a Toof shows that Chase was afraid of dentists, but he overcame it by the end of the episode.

Marshall

• Butt Monkey: Crashes into the other pups Once Per Episode.
• Catchphrase:
  • "I'm fired up!"
  • "I'm ready for a ruff ruff rescue!"
• In a Single Bound: When he and Chase high five each other in Mighty Pups Charged Up: Pups Versus the Copycat, Marshall becomes able to jump extremely high.
• Irony: The fact that Marshall is a fire rescue pup, yet is given heating powers by the meteor, is essentially this trope.
• The Klutz: Whenever Ryder calls the pups, Marshall slips up and crashes into the other pups in the most comical ways possible almost every episode (with the exceptions of Pups and the Trouble with Turtles and Pups Save a Friend).
• The Medic: Became his secondary job in Season 2.
• Playing with Fire: Gains heat-related powers in Mighty Pups.
• Why Did It Have to Be Flying?: He was scared of flying in the first 2 seasons, but he seems to have overcame it as of Season 3's Air Pups.

Rocky

• Butt Monkey: Not to Marshall's extent, but it happens whenever water is concerned.
• Catchphrase:
  • "Green means go!"
  • "Don't lose it, reuse it!"
  • "Why trash it when you can stash it!"
• Ear Notch: On his left ear.
• Every Device Is a Swiss Army Knife: His pup pack contains a bunch of things that vary depending on the episode.
• Gadgeteer Genius/Mr. Fixit: Rocky often either fixes things, or turns them into brand new things.
• Green Aesop: His job focuses on recycling.
• Irony: He's scared of water as a normal pup, yet is perfectly fine with it while he's a merpup.
• The Smart Pup
• Why Did It Have to Be Water?: His fear of water is a bit of a Running Gag.
• X-Ray Vision: Gets this in Mighty Pups Charged Up: Pups Versus the Copycat when he and Skye high five each other.

Skye

• Blow You Away: The meteor grants her the power of flight and wind in Mighty Pups.
• Catchphrase:
  • "Let's take to the sky!"
  • "This pup's gotta fly!"
• Fan Girl: Admires young aviator Ace Sorensen.
• Girly Girl
• Pink Means Feminine
• Power of the Storm: Gets this after high-fiving Rocky in Mighty Pups Charged Up: Pups Versus the Copycat.
• Precocious Crush: On Francois.
• Purple Eyes
• The Smurfette Principle: In the first season. Subverted with the introduction of Everest in Season 2.
• Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly girl to Everest's tomboy.
• Vocal Evolution: Due her old voice actress, Kallan Holley, going through puberty, her voice became deeper each season until Holley was replaced by Lilly Bartlam at the beginning of Season 6.
• Why Did It Have to Be Eagles?: Sometimes, she has to face an eagle while on missions.

Rubble

• Big Eater: Tends to be a bit hungrier than the rest of the PAW Patrol.
• Catchphrase:
  • "Rubble on the double!"
  • "Let's dig it!"
• Cute Little Fangs: Being a bulldog, two of his teeth stick right out of his lower jaw.
• Fan Boy: Of Apollo the Super Pup.
• Growling Gut: Occasionally happens when he's hungry.
• Origins Episode: Pups Get a Rubble reveals how he joined the PAW Patrol.
• Rolling Attack: He becomes able to do this after high-fiving Zuma in Mighty Pups Charged Up: Pups Versus the Copycat.
• Super Strength: Gets this in Mighty Pups.
• Tender Tears: Tends to cry easier than the other pups.
• Why Did It Have to Be Spiders?: His primary fear, but he's also afraid of ghosts and bats.

Zuma

• Catchphrase:
  • "Let's dive in!"
  • "Ready, set, get wet!"
  • There's also a catchphrase he borrowed from Rubble in Pups Save a Super Pup: "Zuma on the double!"
• Elmuh Fudd Syndwome: In Season 1, but he gradually lost it as the series went on. Come early-mid Season 4, and he's lost it completely (though this is mostly due to him getting a new voice actor).
• Energy Balls: He becomes able to create these after he high-fives Rubble in Mighty Pups Charged Up: Pups Versus the Copycat.
• The Generic Guy: Compared to the other pups, he has little to no distinct personality traits of his own, and is usually only called for backup.
• Making a Splash: He's the PAW Patrol's water rescue pup, and he later gets the ability to make waves in Mighty Pups.
• Out of Focus: While the other pups get their fair share of screen time, Zuma tends to just fade into the background.
• Totally Radical: Downplayed, but he tends to call people "dude."

Everest

• Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: A purple husky.
• An Ice Pup: The meteor grants her ice powers in Mighty Pups.
• Catchphrase:
  • "Ice or snow, I'm ready to go!"
  • "Off the trial, Everest won't fail!"
• Everything's Better with Penguins: Before she met Jake, her only friends were penguins.
• Interspecies Friendship: With Jake, whom she resides with.
• Promotion to Opening Titles: In Season 3 and part of Season 4.
• Seventh Ranger: Usually only called for snow and ice rescues, but she is occasionally called for non-snow or ice related rescues.
• Tomboy
• Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboy to Skye's girly girl.

Tracker

• Animals Not to Scale: He's rather big for a chihuahua.
• Eighth Ranger: Similar to Everest; just replace snow and ice rescues with jungle rescues.
• Gratuitous Spanish: Being bilingual, he tends to say things both in English and in Spanish.
• Interspecies Friendship: He saved Carlos from a snake, and Carlos adopted him afterwards.
• Nature Hero: He IS the PAW Patrol's jungle rescue pup.
• Super Senses: His hearing is better than most other dogs'.
• Why Did It Have to Be the Dark?: Due to his heightened sense of hearing. His fear of the dark isn't intense, but it's still notable.

Tuck & Ella

Tropes Applying to Both

• Brother-Sister Team
• Cool Bike: Both have their own motorcycles which can merge into a Cool Car.
• Half-Identical Twins: They're the same breed, but have different heights, ear lengths, and nose colors.
• Multicolored Hair: Part of their Mighty Pup uniforms.
• Ninth and Tenth Rangers: Occasionally called for Super PAW rescue missions if they involve the Lady Bird.
• Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Or, more correctly, Red Girl, Blue Boy.

Exclusive to Tuck

• Catchphrase: "Mighty and small, I'll give it my all!"
• Incredible Shrinking Pup: His superpower is shrinking down to the size of a mouse.

Exclusive to Ella

• Attack of the 50 Foot Whatever: Her superpower is growing to be about as big as Clifford.
• Catchphrase:
  • "Time to think big!"
  • "It's grow time!"
• Non Standard Character Design: Unlike the other pups in the show, who all have black noses, she has a pink nose.

Adventure Bay Citizens

Katie

• Hair Decorations: Wears a pink headband.
• Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold
• Kindhearted Cat Lover: She owns a cat named Cali, and is one of the nicest people you'll meet.
• Nice Girl
• Ship Tease: Pups Save a Dragon implies that she might have a bit of a crush on Ryder; after learning that a play she and Ryder are practicing for involves a kiss between them, Ryder is weirded out by the thought, while Katie giggles.
• Wise Beyond Their Years: She her own pet parlor even though she's only about the same age as Ryder.

Cali

• Big Eater: Pups Save a Train showed her as this.
• Butt Monkey/Designated Victim: Often gets into trouble and needs the PAW Patrol to rescue her.
• Cats Are Mean: She's sometimes snarky, but Cali otherwise averts this tropes.
• Cats Are Snarkers/Silent Snarker: Since she can't talk, she can only express how snarky she is by rolling her eyes.

Mr. Porter

• Bald of Awesome: He doesn't have any hair on the top of his head.
• Cool Old Guy: He's Adventure Bay's resident grocer.
• Older Than They Look: He looks to be about middle-aged, yet he's the grandfather of Alex.

Alex Porter

• Cheerful Child: He's around 5 and is quite happy-go-lucky.
• Kid Appeal Character: Pretty much Type 2, though it's toned down a bit in later episodes.
• Raised by Grandparents: His parents are never seen, so his grandfather, Mr. Porter, looks after him instead.
• Tagalong Kid: Occasionally tries to help the PAW Patrol. They key word is "tries." He has been getting a bit better at helping them, though.
• Why Did It Have to Be the Dentist?: A fear he shared with Chase, but they both overcame it at the end of Pups Save a Toof.

Mayor Goodway

• Beauty Mark: Has a small mole on her left cheek.
• Fan Girl: She adores pop singer, Luke Stars.
• Large Ham: She can be a bit over-dramatic whenever something goes wrong.
• Reasonable Authority Figure: As over-dramatic as she can be, she still does what's best for the city.
• Serious Business: Has a habit of blowing even minor problems out of proportion.

Chickaletta

• Cloudcuckoolander: Pretty oblivious to what's going on.
• Hidden Depths:
  • Pup a Doodle Do shows that she is surprisingly great at dancing to a game called Pup Pup Boogie
• The Stoic: Usually, then there's an emergency, she'll often be seen napping.
  • Not So Stoic: That said, she does sometimes panic at certain situations.

Cap'n Horatio Turbot

• Added Alliterative Appeal: He often does this when he speaks.
• Bizarre Taste in Food: He is strangely fond of food that would normally only appeal to sea animals, such as squid jerky.
• Black Bead Eyes
• Blind Without'Em: When he loses his glasses in Pups and the Ghost Pirate, he is unable to see anything clearly.
• Butt Monkey: He's essentially Marshall in human form.
• The Captain: Yes.
• Cordon Bleugh Chef: Whenever he tries to offer his favorite sea food meals to anyone else, they're understandably grossed out by them.
• Designated Victim: He's one of the most rescued characters in the show, if not the most rescued character.
• Genius Ditz: Despite his Cloudcuckoolander tendencies, he is quite the expert when it comes to marine animals.
• Interspecies Friendship: With Wally the Walrus.
• Nerd Glasses
• Omniglot: He can speak animal and alien.
• Promotion to Opening Titles: While his boat has been briefly seen at the very beginning of the theme song since Season 1, he got a slightly bigger role in the theme song beginning with Season 3.
• Speaks Fluent Animal: There are lots of times that showcase his ability to talk to marine animals.
• Strong Family Resemblance: He and his French cousin, Francois Turbot, look very similar to each other.
• Trademark Favorite Food: Squid jerky.

Francois Turbot

• Attention Whore: He loves getting attention.
• Black Bead Eyes: Just like his cousin Horatio.
• Competition Freak: He often goes head-to-head against his cousin, and he takes it very seriously.
• French Jerk: Not exactly the nicest character on the show.
• It Is Pronounced "Tro-PAY": He insists that he and his cousin's last names are pronounced "tur-bow."
• Leeroy Jenkins: In many episodes, he has to be rescued because he acts before he thinks.
• Narcissist: And how. One example is in Sea Patrol: Pups Save the Pier, where he was more concerned about losing a jellyfish jelly statue of himself than how he was in danger of going down with the collapsing pier.
• Nice Hat: Wears a beret.
• Strong Family Resemblance: To Cap'n Turbot.

Wally the Walrus

• Big Eater: Possibly the only character whose appetite is bigger than Rubble's.
• Face Palm: Does this whenever Cap'n Turbot does something dumb.
• Happily Married/Official Couple: In the Season 2 episode Pups Save Walinda, he marries a purple female walrus named Walinda. And they also have a baby together!
• Interspecies Friendship: He and Cap'n Turbot are inseparable.
• Silent Snarker: Since he can't speak, whenever the Cap'n does something wrong, Wally facepalms instead.

Danny

• Brought to You by The Letter "S": Wears a yellow shirt with an "X" on it.
• Character Development: His stunts have lately been significantly less dangerous than they were before. Whether this change is permanent remains to be seen, though.
• Cool Helmet: Often wears a black and red motorcycle helmet.
• Didn't Think This Through: The reason why many of his stunts fail.
• Fearless Fool: Perhaps a bit too fearless.
• Insistent Terminology: "That's Daring Danny X!"
• Leeroy Jenkins: Happens a LOT because he doesn't think any of his stunts through.
• The Load: Moreso than Alex.
• Too Dumb to Live: In Seasons 3 & 4. Seasons 5 & 6 lessen this trait a bit, thankfully.
• Vague Age: It's not clear if he's meant to be an older kid or a younger teen.
• Why Did It Have to Be Bears?: Pups Bear-ly Save Danny reveals that he's scared of bears.
• Youthful Freckles

Ms. Marjorie

• Ascended Extra: She got a large role in Season 5.
• Cool Old Lady: She may be old, but she's very athletic (as shown in Pups Save Ms. Marjorie's House and Pups Save a Runaway Mayor).
• Prim and Proper Bun

Outside Adventure Bay

Jake

• Big Ol' Eyebrows: Has some rather thick eyebrows.
• Hidden Depths:
  • Pups Save Jake reveals that he likes exploring caves.
  • In The Pups' Winter Wonder Show, Jake is shown to be skilled at playing the tuba.
• Interspecies Friendship: He developed one with Everest after she saved him from almost falling off a cliff and into icy water; he later adopted her afterwards.
• Nice Hat: Often wears a snow hat.
• Speaks Fluent Animal: Pups Save the Deer shows that he can mimic deer calls.
• Totally Radical: Like Zuma, he often calls people "dude."

Farmer Yumi

• All Asians Know Martial Arts: She appears to be of Asian ethnicity, and a few episodes show her teaching the pups the art of Pup-Fu.
• Birds of a Feather: She and Farmer Al are both farmers, so it's understandable why they married each other in Season 2's Pups Save a Wedding.
• Hidden Depths: Pup-Fu! and Pups Save Sensei Yumi both show her teaching martial arts to the pups.
• Happily Married: Got married to Farmer Al in Pups Save a Wedding.
• Nice Hat: Wears a straw hat.

Farmer Al

• Birds of a Feather: Like Farmer Yumi, he, too, is a farmer. And they both got married because of this common interest between them.
• Happily Married: To Farmer Yumi.
• Nice Hat: Wears a trucker's hat.

Carlos

• Gratuitous Spanish: He is bilingual, but not to Tracker's extent.
• Interspecies Friendship: Besides Tracker, he is also friends with Mandy the monkey, and also his pet parrot, Matea.
• Nice Hat: Wears a fedora.
• Orange-Blue Contrast: Wears an orange jungle shirt with blue pants.

Villains

Mr. Nibbles/The Copycat

• All Your Powers Combined: When he comes into contact with the meteor, he gets all the same powers as the main 6 PAW Patrol pups, as well as the ability to talk.
• Cats Are Mean: Moreso than the Kitten Catastrophe Crew!
• Gold Tooth: A small piece of the meteor gets stuck on one of his teeth, which is how he becomes able to speak like the pups. He is shown to secretly still have it just before the end of Mighty Pups Charged Up: Pups Versus the Copycat.
• Green-Eyed Monster: He loathes the PAW Patrol because he feels that his owner, Hailey Daily, gives more attention to the PAW Patrol than him.
  • Not to mention, he literally has green eyes.
• Knight of Cerebus: While the show's previous villains were usually harmless, the same cannot be said for Mr. Nibbles. Not only does he have a deep hatred for the PAW Patrol, but he also had no problem with abandoning Humdinger and the Kitten Catastrophe Crew on a building that was on the verge of collapsing, which would have killed them. Luckily, the PAW Patrol managed to save them in time, but just the thought that the Copycat would leave people to die is absolutely horrific!
• Non Standard Character Design: Unlike every other cat in the show, he's taller, his ears are longer, and his tail is skinny in contrast to the other cats' fluffy tails.
• Talking Animal: When he first see him, he can only meow. Once he comes into contact with the meteor, however, he can talk just like the pups.
