The following is a list of characters appearing in the PANDORA VOXX song and novel series. Please take note that due to Alternative Character Interpretation and vagueness of certain plot points, some of the tropes here should be taken with a grain of salt. Related to that, please refrain from adding tropes based purely on speculation.
Maki
The boy was too innocent. |
Also known affectionately as "Maki-chan", she's the main character of Kamisama Nejimaki and the one who tied all of the stories together. She's the professor who created the wish-granting cube, and used it to grant wishes of humanity before being ousted by them. Now she mainly lives in a realm between dream and reality as a godlike being who grants people's wishes. However, sometimes her implementations can be a little bit off, with unfortunate results.
In the Invisible novel, she enrolled the same high school as Souhei as "Maki Tamagawa", where she would later be known for her talents and looks.
- A God Am I: After the incident ascribed in Kamisama Nejimaki. A rather uncommon example in that she didn't try to get humanity to worship her or anything, but instead acted as some sort of walking Deus Ex Machina who grants wishes to those who seek her (or piqued her interest).
- Bokukko
- Clothing Damage: Her stockings were damaged after Kamisama Nejimaki. She doesn't seem to bother changing them, even as Maki Tamagawa.
- Hot Scientist: Hello, Maki!
- Meaningful Name: Her name means something along the line of "winding up", and she's the one who created the miracle-performing box. Additionally, it's also the anagram of "Kami", which means "God" in Japanese.
- Mental World: Usually resides in one. She's able to enter other people's minds and dreams and modify them to an extent, which she does for varying reasons, from wiping certain memories to invoking sick visual effects.
- Not So Above It All: Despite being a virtually god-like being now, Maki acted and behaved like a normal girl most of the time. Justified in that deep inside, she's still just a human.
- Older Than They Look: It's implied that she's actually older than her appearance lets on.
- Pink Means Feminine: Averted. She's usually associated with the color pink, but her personality is actually a little bit boyish.
- Rose-Haired Sweetie: She often acts playful and supportive to her "clients", although she's not above giving snarky commentaries or playing pranks to them. Whether these acts are just a ruse is up to debate.
- Sinister Scythe: Owns one in Ikasama Life Game.
- Vague Age: Despite her youthful look and demeanor, her actual age is unknown. Spending most of her life floating in the boundaries between realities doesn't help.
- Who Wears Short Shorts?: Maki does, which synced very well with her Zettai Ryouiki.
- Zettai Ryouiki: Those stockings are Grade A.
Yuto Hashidate
The boy wanted to be fastidious. |
The main character of Jinsei Reset Button. A total perfectionist, he tried the hardest to not make any kind of mistake that would potentially ruin his life. One day however, he one fatal mistake scarred his reputation, and he wished for a chance to retry and fix his mistake. Enter Maki, who visited him in his dream and gave him the chance he wished in the form of a Life Reset Button.
- All the Other Reindeer: Due to his cold attitude toward people and occasional arrogance, he became the occasional target of some bullies at school.
- Big Brother Worship: Admires his older brother, which he deems as "the perfect example of a human being".
- Bring Me My Brown Pants: His biggest mistake is getting hit with this trope at school, which ruined his previously clean reputation.
- Driven to Suicide: Implied to be what happened to him at the end.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Some of his memories are gradually stripped away after each reset.
- Reset Button: Obtains one at the beginning of the story.
Souhei Shima
The boy wanted to become a nighthawk. |
The main character of Invisible. He lives in an apartment with his pet cat, Othello. Having lost contact with his parents since he was little and no friend at school, Souhei wished to just disappear, which was granted by Maki, who let him live in a transparent city with two teenagers who had the same wish as he is, Seiji and Riina.
- All the Other Reindeer: Although unlike Yuto, Souhei is actually a decent guy.
- Eating Lunch Alone: Usually spends his lunchtime in this state.
- Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: His skin is noticably pale, which makes the contrast with his sister's Ambiguously Brown appearance much more apparent.
- Long-Lost Relative: Turns out Riina was his sister. Having been separated from his parents, Souhei had no idea at first.
Natsuhiko Shido
The boy wanted to live in peace. |
The main character of Ikasama Life Game. An orphan who lost both his parents in a car accident, he wished for a life of peace. Maki granted his wish in the form of a card that could be used to take a peek into his future, thus enabling him to plan a few steps forward.
- Chronoscope: Given to him by Maki.
- The Lost Lenore: Sora. Especially sad since he's the indirect cause of her death, as the misfortunes that would've hit him were redirected to other people. Thankfully, the two of them got reunited in the afterlife.
- Peek-a-Bangs
- Screw Destiny: What he plans to do to live a peaceful life.
- Shoddy Knockoff Product: Apparently, his jacket and piercings are inspired by the style worn by his friend Akito. However, while Akito bought his clothes from brands, Natsuhiko got his in a cheap 100-Yen store.
- Together in Death: His last wish was to be reunited with Sora in the afterlife, which Maki granted.
Riku
The boy wanted to become human. |
The main character of Roku Chounen to Ichiya Monogatari. A mysterious boy who could feel no pain, he's called by the derogatory nickname "Taboo Child" by the villagers and was tortured on a daily basis.
One day, he met a girl named Ai. Originally having no name himself, Ai gave him the name "Riku" and both of them escaped the village to look for a box rumored to be able to grant any wish.
- And Now for Someone Completely Different: The previous main protagonists are regular high school students with psychological problems and lack of parent(s) or friends. Riku is an enigma who has been alone for who knows how long and no sense of pain. Riku also got his wish at the climax of the story, while the previous protagonists had them at the very beginning.
- Break the Cutie: Ai's death broke him down, which caused him to finally make a wish to Maki. His wish? Kill everyone. Maki promptly burned down the village he once lived in, killing everyone inside.
- How Do You Like Them Apples?: Usually associated with apples. See Rule of Symbolism below.
- Rule of Symbolism: Maki granting his wish is symbolized with an apple that he ate, which robs him of his previous innocence.
- White-Haired Pretty Boy
Yun
The boy wanted to say it. |
The main character of Chikyu Saigo no Kokuhaku Wo. While the song currently has no novel adaptation, her official name was later given as Yun.
Once a normal girl, she wished to never grow up. God (Maki) heard of her wish and grants her immortality. She fell in love, but later realized that her loved one would left her as she'd never die. Countless times had passed, she resolved to say something to her beloved who had left her long ago.
- Cannot Spit It Out: She hadn't got the chance to confess her feeling toward her crush back then.
- Rapunzel Hair: Has very long hair.
- Who Wants to Live Forever?
Haruka Kurisawa
The boy refused perfection. |
The main character of Reincarnation.
Ruma
A lovely dawn should definitely exist. |
An enigmatic being created by Maki to assist her in granting wishes.
