One Piece: Parallel Works is a 2011 One Piece fanfic by Oxenstierna D. Yuki-Rin. As of April or May of 2011, the original fourteen chapters were taken down, and a noticeable re-write begun.

The story is set two years after the Whitebeard War. Even though the Capricorn Pirates have been sailing since before the story began, the story begins when the captain of the Capricorn Pirates, Yuki-Rin, finds a wandering boy named Kazuma Miyafuji on the side of the road. She takes him into the crew, which is the catalyst for this fic.

Currently, this story is on the Airship Island Arc, where the Capricorns end up on a sky island with a friend of Yuki-Rin's and The Stockholm Syndrome Pirates. This fanfic contains examples of:

Tropes:[]

  • Arranged Marriage: Yuki-Rin found herself in one with Roscoe. Fortunately, Kazuma defeats Roscoe and Yuki-Rin stays with her crew. A much major one is Aki's, which serves as a Chekhov's Gun later on.
  • Backstory: All of the Capricorns have one. Like many One Piece canon and fanon characters, some of them are mighty depressing.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: Aki is beauty, Hana is brains, and Yuki-Rin is brawn. For the males, Heathcliffe is beauty, Kartik is brains, and Kazuma is brawn.
    • In the former arrangements of Cipher Pol 5, Karin is beauty, Drusilla is brains, and Z.G. is brawn.
  • Big Screwed-Up Family: The Sarutobis. The grandma is a ghost living in her grandson's scythe, the parents are abusive, and the three sons are Quincy Punks living on a boat as pirates.
  • Boy Meets Girl: Happens to both Kazuma and Yuki-Rin and Heathcliffe and Aki.
  • Broken Bird: Heathcliffe, Molly, Kazuma, Maki-chan, Drusilla, Sebastian, Holden, Aki, Akari, Dewey, Enlai, and Cho Inaba.
  • Bunny Ears Lawyer: Karin, Drusilla, and Z.G.'s division of the Cipher Pol.
  • Cast Full of Pretty Boys: Almost all of Yuki-Rin's male crew members are Bishounen in their own ways.
  • Cool Big Sis: Aria and Yuki-Rin, to Hana and Molly, respectively.
  • Cool Boat: The Hyperion.
  • Crossover: Some chapters crossover with "One Piece: Rise of the Pirate Queen".
  • Dance of Romance: Aki and Heathcliffe in chapter 35.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: In the vein of One Piece and its many fanfics, about half of the Capricorns have depressing pasts, with Heathcliffe, Molly, Isabella, Drusilla, Yulia, Daisuke, Sebastian, Enlai, and Cho Inaba having the most depressing backstories.
  • Designated Girl Fight: Yuki-Rin and Mina's battle during the Ghost Ship Arc.
  • Extremely Short Timespan: The events of the Tequila Wolf Arc take place in one night (and the morning after).
    • The Restaurant Row Arc happens in a single afternoon.
    • The Ginling Island Arc's events happen in one afternoon and night.
    • The events of the Ghost Ship Arc take place from one morning to the next morning.
  • Furo Scene: Aki gets one at the end of chapter 27 shortly before she is kidnapped by the Baba Yaga.
  • Glorious Mother Russia: Tequila Wolf seems to be based off of Stalinist Russia before the Tenryuubito give the control of the island to its residents.
  • Gonk: Big Margo and Sun-Ni.
  • High Class Call Girl: The Capricorns disguise themselves as these to infiltrate the Dragon Lady's brothel in the Triad Arc.
  • La Résistance: Aria leads one in the Tequila Wolf Arc for the autonomy of Tequila Wolf. Aria manages to gain the autonomy of the island just through diplomacy.
  • Land of Dragons: Xinjin Island, the island where the Triad Arc is set, is based off of Hong Kong or Guanzhou, according to Word of God.
  • Leitmotif: According to Word of God, each Capricorn has their own theme song that reflects their personalities, styles, and interests.
  • Loads and Loads of Characters: So much so, that the authoress of the fic has posted a section on her profile explaining who's who in the fic.
  • Mood Whiplash: Chapter 56. It starts off as a light-hearted chapter where we meet supporting characters of the Capricorns, and then It Got Worse when it's revealed what Prince Pollux is doing to the island and that Cho Inaba wants the Capricorns to murder him.
  • Oireland: Molly came from an Oireland-type island.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: Kaoru and Mina, who are vampires through Kaoru's Devil Fruit.
  • Pressure Point: Yuki-Rin uses one to defeat Kuro in the Appenzell Island Arc.
  • Rape as Backstory: Happened to Cho Inaba when she came to Prince Pollux for food ten years before the Prince's Rebellion Arc.
  • Rescue Arc: The Ghost Ship Arc, the Baba Yaga Arc, and, now, the Noblesse Oblige Arc.
  • Shout-Out: During the Tequila Wolf Arc, when the residents of Tequila Wolf are about to face the Tenryuubito, Molly says, "Let's go out there and raise what's left of the island's flag!" This line is a refrence to the Flogging Molly song "What's Left of the Flag", which has a line that goes "Wipe that golden tear from your mother, dear, and raise what's left of the flag from me." Word of God states that the authoress is a big fan of Flogging Molly.
    • Four out of the five Sarutobi family members on Yuki-Rin's crew. Holden is named after Holden Caufield and Heathcliffe and Isabella are named after Wuthering Heights characters.
    • The Restaurant Row Arc appears to have some shout-outs to Toriko. The noodle chef that Kazuma battles is named Sun-Ni, which sounds like "Sunny", one of the characters of Toriko.
    • In the omake at the end of chapter fourteen, Roscoe mentions that he could go for some chicken or waffles, which refrences Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles in L.A.
    • Chapter thirty's title is " Exit Shikari", a reference to the band Enter Shikari.
  • Sibling Team: Yuki-Rin and Molly, Hana and Aria, and Heathcliffe, Holden, and Soren.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Heathcliffe and Aki.
  • Sleep Cute: Aki and the Sarutobi siblings at the end of chapter 20.
  • Sliding Scale of Idealism vs. Cynicism: Between the Capricorn Pirates and the Stockholm Syndrome Pirates. The Stockholm Syndromes are on the cynicism side, given their Uncanny Valley attitude they give off and the fact that all of them are Stepford Smilers. The Capricorns, on the other side of the coin, are on the idealistic side, because they're about having epic adventures and their True Companions.
  • The Triads and the Tongs: The entire point of the Triad Arc.
  • Those Two Guys: Yuno and Teinosuke, Aki's friends from her home island and two of Yuriko's crew mates a bit later on in the story.
  • Vampire Bites Suck: Aki gets bitten by Kaoru during the fight on the Ghost Ship in chapter 19. Fortunately, she survives the attack and doesn't get turned into a vampire.
    • Daisuke also gets bitten by Kaoru in chapter 24, because he got poisoned and Kaoru was trying to prevent the poison from killing him.
