Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

Basic Trope: A character willingly helps someone who's conquered his people.

  • Played Straight: Bob profits from treason.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is a Proud Warrior Race Guy whose people were the victims of genocide by the supposedly "good" faction and sides with Emperor Evulz as revenge.
  • Downplayed: Bob betrays La Résistance...by dating The Dark Chick.
  • Inverted: Everyone but Bob welcomes Emperor Evulz.
  • Subverted: Bob is just getting close to Emperor Evulz to kill him...
  • Double Subverted: ...but Bob takes Emperor Evulz' place.
  • Untwisted: Bob is enslaved to Emperor Evulz by means of an enchantment, but once it's removed, he still works for Emperor Evulz.
  • Deconstructed: Bob even says "Emperor Evulz has made me rich!"
  • Reconstructed: Emperor Evulz isn't so bad after all, and only Bob can see it.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Bob is completely loyal to La Résistance, despite their faults.
  • Enforced: Bob is an Alicetonian, and the creators hate Alicetonians.
  • Necessary Weasel: It's a Real Life story, and there really was a collaborator with the bad guy.
  • Played For Laughs: Bob betrays everybody at some point in the story.
  • Played for Drama: Bob angsts about how he has no friends because he betrays them all.
  • Lampshaded: "So, Bob's been helping the bad guys all along!"
  • Invoked: Emperor Evulz' main advisor, General Drake, points out that La Résistance has treated Bob terribly, so Bob shouldn't be loyal to them...
  • Defied: ...but despite this, Bob is loyal to La Résistance.
  • Conversed: "In these shows, there's always somebody helping the bad guys."
  • Exploited: Alice, knowing that Bob is often nowhere to be seen, but is inherently curious about their plans, even when they don't involve him or anyone he knows, and seems to have come into possession of thirty pieces of silver, figures he's The Mole!
