Jurassic Park (Book)
Dr. Alan Grant
- Badass Beard: He sports a nice one.
- Badass Bookworm
- Determinator: Nothing will stop him from getting Lex, Tim, and himself back to safety.
- Friend to All Children: He absolutely adores them.
- Only Sane Man: Grant quickly realizes a lot of the park’s flaws, including the fact that the ridiculously dangerous and intelligent Velociraptors are part of the attractio.
- Walking Techbane: He hates computers, and is unable to operate them.
Dr. Ellie Sattler
- Bare Your Midriff
- Hot Scientist: Numerous characters comment on her looks internally, but she is getting married on mainland to a physisist.
- Ms. Fanservice: More or less all the male characters comment on her to themselves privately.
- She's Got Legs: Ian Malcolm and Tim Murphy both take note of them.
Dr. Ian Malcolm
- Brutal Honesty: He comments on all of the park’s flaws.
- Cassandra Truth: Most of the staff refuse to listen to him, but especially Hammond.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Especially while high on morphine
- Deadpan Snarker
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- Meta Guy: Mildly.
- Not Quite Dead
- Only Sane Man
- Tall, Dark and Snarky
John Hammond
- Asshole Victim: Hammond is devoured by a group of Procompsagnathus after he thinks he regained control of the park.
- Corrupt Corporate Executive
- Jerkass
- Karmic Death: Killed by the very animals he sought to exploit.
- Manipulative Bastard
- Never My Fault: Blames literally everyone but himself for the park’s problems.
- Only in It For the Money
Dr. Martin 'Marty' Guttierez
Alexis Murphy
- Crying Little Kid
- The Load: Does nothing of use and simply whimes at everythin, unlike the somewhat proactive Tim.
- Tomboy
Tim Murphy
- Hero Worshipper
- Male Gaze: He checks out Ellie's legs.
Dr. Lewis Dodgson
- Asshole Victim: Killed by the infant Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- Big Bad: In the Lost World.
- The Man Behind the Man: He convinces Nedry to steal the embryos.
- Jerkass: A total scumbag who cares nothing for other’s lives. Exaggerated when he tries to kill Sarah simply to get an edge on Malcolm and Levine’s team.
- Manipulative Bastard
- Smug Snake
John Arnold
Donald Gennaro
Robert Muldoon
- The Alcoholic: Gets drunk during the Velociraptor attack on the visitor center. It doesn’t stop him from blowing one up with a rocket launcher.
- Badass: Kicks Velociraptor ass.
- Great White Hunter: A heroic character and the game warden.
- Nice Hat
- Rare Gun: A rocket launcher.
- Only Sane Employee
Dennis Nedry
- Asshole Victim: Killed by a Dilophasaurus. The death is so brutal that one can’t help but feel bad for him.
- Fat Bastard
- Fat Slob
- Freudian Excuse: Shortchanged by Hammond, who blacklisted him so he would stay on Jurassic Park and treated him like garbage for not correcting bugs that he didn’t correct because Hammond wouldn’t tell him what he was doing.
- Jerkass
- Just Desserts: Devoured quite brutally by a Dilophasaurus.
- Karmic Death
- The Mole: For Dodgson.
- Significant Anagram: "Nedry" – "nerdy."
- His full name: "Dennis Nedry" = "Nerdy Sinned".
- Smug Snake
- Villainous Glutton
Ed Regis
- Asshole Victim: Devoured by the Tyrannosaurus.
- Child-Hater: Justified, since Ed is a publicist who Hammond is forcing to babysit.
- Dirty Coward: Abandons the children to the Tyrannosaurus.
- Jerkass
- Slime Ball
Dr. Henry Wu
The Lost World
Richard Levine
Jack 'Doc' Thorne
Eddie Carr
- The Generic Guy: Doesn’t get too much personality.
- Sacrificial Lion: Killed by raptors near the end of the book to show how serious things have gotten.
Kelly Curtis
RB 'Arby' Benton
Dr Sarah Harding
Howard King
- Minion with an F In Evil: King doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.
- Karmic Death: Subverted. King doesn’t deserve his death in the slightest.
George Baselton
Jurassic Park Film
Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill)
- Badass Bookworm
- Chekhov's Gun
- Child-Hater: At first.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: He wasn't in the second film, but was aware of the events that happened in it.
- Nice Hat
- May-December Romance: With Ellie in the first movie.
- Only Sane Man
- Walking Techbane
- The Worm Guy
Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern)
- Deadpan Snarker: When Hammond is explaining that the attractions at the park will drive kids wild, Alan asks "What are those?" Ellie replies with "Small versions of adults, honey."
- Gondor Calls for Aid: In the third film, she calls in the Marines after she gets nothing but a garbled message from Alan.
- Hollywood Nerd
- Promoted to Love Interest
- May-December Romance: With Alan in the first film.
- She's Got Legs
Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum)
- Bumbling Dad: Not as extreme as other examples, but does slip into this territory in The Lost World.
- Cassandra Truth
- Cloudcuckoolander: In the first movie, by The Lost World, he's the Only Sane Man.
- Character Exaggeration: His arguments against the dinosaurs and sarcasm become most of his character.
- Deadpan Snarker
- Disappeared Dad: His daughter out-right accused him of as much, he gets better though.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- Only Sane Man: In The Lost World.
- Really Gets Around: "I'm always on the lookout for the future ex-Mrs. Malcolm."
- Tall, Dark and Snarky
- Took a Level In Badass: Say what you will about chaos theory, but this guy outran 2 T-Rexes and a pack of Raptors.
John Hammond (Richard Attenborough)
- The Atoner: In the second film.
- Catch Phrase: "We spared no expense."
- Cool Old Guy
- Disney Theme Park: What Hammond obviously wanted "Jurassic Park" to be. Fitting considering the movie verison of the character is pretty much a Walt Disney clone.
- Just Think of the Potential
- Look on My Works Ye Mighty and Despair: At the end of the first film.
- Man in White
- Schrodingers Cat
- Spared by the Adaptation
- Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: Dead by the time of Jurassic Park III.
- Too Dumb to Live
- Well-Intentioned Extremist
Robert Muldoon (Bob Peck)
- Badass
- Death by Adaptation
- Great White Hunter
- He Who Fights Raptors
- The Hunter Syndrome Caught a bad case of this when he and Dr. Sattler were on ther way to the generator room, and he got a little side-tracked.
- Nice Hat
- Rare Gun
- The World's Expert on Getting Killed
Ray Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson)
- An Arm and a Leg: Poor guy, after Ellie comes looking for him... an arm is the only thing of his that she finds.
- Badass Bookworm
- Black and Nerdy
- Deadpan Snarker
"Hold on to your butts!" |
- Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: A very rare example of a good-aligned chain-smoker who isn't an Anti-Hero.
Donald Gennaro (Martin Ferrero)
- Asshole Victim
- Amoral Attorney: Sure Gennaro, leave the poor little children behind to face a Tyrannosaurus-Rex... ALONE!!!
- The Can Kicked Him: In the film.
- Composite Character: Of the novel version and Ed Regis (from the novel).
- Death by Adaptation
- Dirty Coward
Lex and Tim Murphy (Arianna Richards and Joseph Mazzello)
- Badass Adorable
- Chekhov's Hobby: Lex's computer hacking.
- Hero Worshipper: Tim is a huge fan of Dr. Grant.
- Insistent Terminology: "I prefer to be called a 'hacker.'"
- Kid Appeal Character
- The Load: Moreso Tim; Lex does extremely dumb things, but she has her useful and smart moments too (in the film anyway). Both the film version of Tim and the book version of Lex can be forgiven as they are young kids.
- Playful Hacker: Lex
- Precocious Crush: Lex has one on Dr. Grant.
- Tomboy: The book version of Lex is a huge baseball fan. The movie version of Lex is older and more nerdy but she still wears a baseball cap and seems pretty capable at things like climbing so she might count to a lesser degree.
Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight)
- Asshole Victim
- Bad Liar
- Blind Without'Em
- Dropped Glasses
- Fat Slob
- Genre Savvy / Crazy Prepared: Apparently Nedry was smart enough with his computer hacking skills to anticipate the possibility that his bosses would attempt to hack into his computer and created a defense on his computer where he'd have a portrait of himself saying "you didn't say the magic word" while wagging his finger, going by what happened when they did attempt to do so after he took the security system offline.
- Jerkass
- Just Desserts
- Karmic Death
- The Mole
- Significant Anagram: "Nedry" – "nerdy."
- His full name: "Dennis Nedry" = "Nerdy Sinned".
- Smug Snake
- Villainous Glutton
Dr. Henry Wu (B.D. Wong)
- Asian and Nerdy
- Demoted to Extra: He has considerably more 'screen time' in the book.
- Spared by the Adaptation
- Sudden Sequel Heel Syndrome: Inexplicably a Jerkass Mad Scientist in Jurassic World.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park Film
Dr. Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore)
- Action Girl/Badass Damsel: She can hold her own against a full-grown Velociraptor.
- Deadpan Snarker: She throws a few witty jabs at Ian and Nick.
- Everyone Has Their Standards: She wants to save the dinosaurs, but she rightly calls out Nick for taking the injured baby T-Rex back to the lab.
- Fiery Redhead: She spends most of the movie fighting everyone
- Hot Scientist: She is Julianne Moore after all.
- Jerkass: Downplayed. But still, it wasn't very nice to criticize Ian for being afraid of an island filled with dinosaurs. Considering that he was almost killed on Isla Nublar, he has every reason to be afraid of Isla Sorna.
- Ms. Fanservice: Ian is greatly attracted to her.
- Redheaded Heroine: Although she has traits of a Brainy Brunette, she is very much a Fiery Redhead.
- Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: She is this to Ian.
Nick Van Owen (Vince Vaughn)
- Badass
- Badass Pacifist
- The Casanova
- Chivalrous Pervert: The reason he joined a Mickey Mouse organization like "Green Peace", the women!
- Stupid Good: He's the guy who thought it'd be a good idea to bring a baby T-Rex back to base. Even Sarah hated the idea.
- The Extremist Was Right: Zig-zagged. He argues that the InGen is wrong to exploit the dinosaurs, but on the other hand, the dinosaurs are not natural-born animals in an unevolved environment—they are genetically cloned hybrids that InGen has legal ownership of, thus the company has the lawful right to take possession of them. But as the movie franchise shows, caging them is not going to end well for them or the people around them. It's one of those times where what may be morally right and legally right differ.
- What Happened to the Mouse?
- Well-Intentioned Extremist
Eddie Carr (Richard Schiff)
- Composite Character: Of the book version of Eddie and "Doc" Thorne.
- Gadgeteer Genius
- Heroic Sacrifice
- Only Sane Man
- Punny Name/ Stealth Pun: His last name is Carr. He's the mechanic for the entire operation, having built some of those massive trailers and a few of the jeeps himself. Think about it.
- Sacrificial Lion
Kelly Malcolm (Vanessa Lee Chester)
- Action Girl: Thanks to her Chekhov's Hobby, see below.
- Chekhov's Hobby: Her Gymnastic skills, believe it or not.
- Composite Character: Of Kelly Curtis and "Arby" Benton from the second book.
- Little Stowaway
- Tomboy: She's got shades of it.
Peter Ludlow (Arliss Howard)
- Asshole Victim
- Corrupt Corporate Executive: Subverted. He really doesn’t do anything illegal, and all in all the worst thing he does is be a jerk.
- Jerkass
- Karmic Death: Eaten by the very animals he'd been mistreating, don't get much more karmic than that.
- Manipulative Bastard
Roland Tembo (Pete Postlethwaite)
- Anti-Villain: Type IV, Rolands' not really an evil man at all, just a little misguided in certain areas.
- Badass
- Bald of Awesome
- Buffy-Speak: During the hunting scene.
"Pachy...Pachyl... Oh, hell. The one with the bald spot. Friar Tuck." |
- Great White Hunter
- Heel Face Turn: Subverted. Roland was always a good guy, he just worked for InGen.
- Heroic BSOD
- Nice Hat
- The Only One Allowed to Defeat You
- Only Sane Man
Ajay Sidhu (Harvey Jason)
- Anti-Villain: Type IV, like his boss (and friend) Roland.
- Dropped a Bridge on Him
- The Lancer: To Roland Tembo.
- Only Sane Man: During the scene where he and the rest of the InGen hunting party are running from one of the T-Rexes and they come to a plain of long grass, and everyone runs into the long grass despite his protests to not do so.
- Too Dumb to Live: He follows them into the long grass while doing so...
Dieter Stark (Peter Stormare)
- Asshole Victim: Killed by a pack of Procompsognathus.
- Hate Sink: A sadistic peice of scum with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Seeing him get mauled by the Procompsognathus pack is just so cathartic.
- Jerkass: Even Ludlow is nicer than him.
- The Rival: to Nick, although it's not explored any further after their initial confrontation.
- Token Evil Teammate: While Roland, Ayay and other InGen personnel are are honorable and brave Punch Clock Villains. Dieter on the other hand,.....
- Too Dumb to Live
- The Stoic
Jurassic Park III
Paul Kirby (William H. Macy)
- Bumbling Dad: He stutters quite a bit, and he can be a little clumsy sometimes.
- Butt Monkey
- Disney Death
- First Father Wins: Took Amanda a long while before she realized that she should stick with Paul.
- Papa Wolf
- Took a Level In Badass
Amanda Kirby (Tea Leoni)
- Dumb Blonde: Not in a ditzy way, more like a Too Dumb to Live kinda way.
- Hot Mom
- Mama Bear
- Screaming Woman: Boy is she ever.
- Too Dumb to Live
Eric Kirby (Trevor Morgan)
- Action Survivor
- Adorably Precocious Child
- Shorter Means Smarter
- Wise Beyond Their Years: Very practical for a kid his age, understandable considering he had to dodge dinos for over eight weeks.
Billy Brennan (Alessandro Nivola)
- Alliterative Name
- Chekhov's Hobby
- Disney Death
- Heroic Sacrifice: Subverted, he manages to survive his encounter with the blood-thursty dinos.
- Reckless Sidekick: To Dr. Grant.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist

Cooper (John Diehl)
Nash (Bruce A. Young)
Jurassic World
Owen Grady (Chris Pratt)
- Deadpan Snarker
- The Hero
- Heroes Want Redheads
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- Only Sane Man: Is the only one to realize Hoskins' plan for the raptors is a stupid and a terrible idea.
Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard)
- Anti-Hero: Type VII
- Action Girl: Subverted. She does get involved in a fair amount of action, she just prefers to use her intelligence rather than her physical strength a great deal more.
- Badass Normal: She gets through a lot of mayhem without the proper training. Justified in Fallen Kingdom where she's more experienced this time around.
- Deadpan Snarker: The woman's default setting.
- Fiery Redhead
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite being a workaholic, she is nevertheless the savior of the park.
- The Lancer: To Owen in a way.
- Redheaded Heroine
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She taps Owen to investigate the Indominus Rex paddock.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Tomboy to Vivian's Girly Girl.
- Woman in White: She wears a white buisness dress.
Vic Hoskins (Vincent D’Onofrio)
- Asshole Victim: Delta tears him apart and no one mournes him.
- Hate Sink: A human being that exists to be hated because the dinosaurs are obviously just animals.
- Jerkass
- Pet the Dog: Once adopted and raised an orphaned wolf cub.
Simon Masrani (Irrfan Kan)
Lowery Cruthers (Jake Johnson)
Vivian (Lauren Lapchus)
- Nice Girl
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Girly Girl to Claire's Tomboy.
Commander Hamada (Brian Tee)
- Red Shirt: The most Badass Red Shirt ever put to film.
- The World's Expert on Getting Killed: Despite having dealt with a ton of dinosaur escapes, the Indominus kills him and much of his team with ease.
Barry (Omar Sy)
- Black Best Friend: To Owen.
- Deadpan Snarker
Raptor Squad
Blue

- Silent Snarker: She shows snide expressions on her face.
Delta
Charlie
- Heel Face Door Slam: Killed by Hoskins’ mercenaries while about to make a Heel Face Turn.
Echo
Indominus Rex
- Alas, Poor Villain: It's hard not to feel sorry for it when the Mosasaurus drags it into the lagoon.
- Hybrid Monster: Possibly
- Killed Off for Real: By a team up of raptors, the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and Mosasaurus.
Mosasaurus
- Sea Monster
- The Worf Effect: Introduced eating a Great White Shark.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Indoraptor
- Ax-Crazy: Even by dinosaur standards.
- Disney Villain Death: How it makes its exit, courtesy of Blue.
- Expy: Of many creatures, such as Xenomorphs, Randall and Baby Zillas, just to name a few.
- Foil: To Blue. While Blue doesn't chase after her prey more than she realistically should, the Indoraptor just hunts For the Evulz. Blue doesn't want her prey to feel anything going out, while the Indoraptor likes to draw out the fear of its prey, as it does with Wheatley.
- Freudian Excuse: The reason behind its sadistic behavior may be that it was abused, and thus, sees all humans as threats.
- The Heavy: The main dinosaur antagonist.
- Hybrid Monster: Just like the Indominus Rex.
- Non-Malicious Monster: Averted. The Indoraptor hunts For the Evulz, unlike most dinosaurs which attack either for food or provocation.
- The Sociopath: Fits a great deal of the criteria.
- Would Hurt a Child: Willing to hunt Masie.
Elijah "Eli" Mills (Rafe Spall)
- Abusive Step-Parents: Towards Masie. Because if Benjamin Lockwood ever dies, whic he does, he should look after her.
- Asshole Victim: Sure, Lewis Dodgson, Peter Ludlow, Billy Brennan and Vic Hoskins were all selfish assholes, but Eli Mils is a murderer, so he had it coming.
- Big Bad: Of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
- Corrupt Corporate Executive: As far as willing to commit cold-blooded murder.
- Hate Sink: Where to begin? He's conniving, selfish and even kills Benjamin Lockwood via Vorpal Pillow, so he's the closet thing Jurassic Park ever will have to a Complete Monster.
- It's All About Me: He does not care about innocent bystanders.
- Just Desserts: Eaten by a Tyranosaurus Rex and a Carnotaurus.
