This is the character sheet for Jewelpet

First Series

Rinko Kougyoku

Voiced by: Eri Kamei

Rinko Kougyoku is the main heroine of Jewelpet and Ruby's human partner. A 14-year-old junior high school student from Takaragaseki City, Rinko is a normal girl who dreams of a Prince Charming on a horse who will come and rescue her someday. Although she both attends Junior High School while on Earth and the Magic Academy in Jewel Land, Rinko also has Acrophobia, can be timid sometimes and has bad English speaking skills. She along with Ruby and her friends were chosen by the Four Great Magicians of Jewel Land to gather all the lost Jewelpets back to Jewel Land before something bad happens to both worlds. She has a crush on the mysterious person Andy, who is really a Jewelpet named Dian in disguise.

Rinko is the only person who can use two Magical Items, the Jewel Pocketbook, used to awaken Jewelpets from their Jewel State along with Ruby, and the Jewel Stick, which she uses to cast Magic.

Minami Asaoka

Voiced by: AKINA

Minami Asaoka is Rinko's childhood friend and Garnet's human partner. Also 14 years old and attending junior high school, Minami is a member of the school's Kendo Club whose family owns an Okonomiyaki shop in the city Suburbs. She's very tomboyish and uses her Kendo skills in some situations, though she admires her club senior Miyamoto. She's also very supportive to Rinko in the situations where she may give up in a battle. And despite her personality, she likes the color pink and stuffed animals—shown in how she decorated her room pink. She helps Rinko and Aoi in finding the lost Jewelpets on Earth. Minami is one of the characters in the first season whose mother is not shown.

Aoi Arisugawa

Voiced by: Miyuki Sawashiro

Aoi Arisugawa is the daughter of the principal of the school Rinko attends in and Sapphie's human partner. 14 years old like Rinko and Minami, Aoi is the richest girl in Takaragaseki City, since her family owns a lot of establishments. Calm with a gentle heart, she has always wanted to have a real best friend—even with her highest status, she can feel lonely and sad at times. After her Jewelpet partner Sapphy was awakened, everyone convinced her that her best friends were by her side all along and after that, she helped Rinko and Minami in finding the other lost Jewelpets. She's taken care of by her trusted butler Genshirou in her mansion when her parents were away. Aoi has a crush on Naoto.

Keigo Taitou

Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano

Keigo Taitou is a secretary from the Prime Minister of Japan who knows about the Jewelpet's existence in secrecy, as well as Flora's human partner. Keigo knows about Ruby's arrival to Earth and about Rinko and her friends' involvement with the Jewel Land and the Jewelpets. He assigned Rinko, Aoi, Minami and their Jewelpet partners to help him and the government in secret to find all the Jewelpets and prevent Diana and Dian to do further trouble on Earth. He knows a lot of English and has good basketball skills.

Genshirou Hatori

Voiced by: Takaoka Binbin

Genshirou Hatori is the head butler of the Arisugawa mansion and King's human partner. A man who studied martial arts, he served the Ariusgawa family for 70 years and protected Aoi with his life. He has seven scars on his back which came from Aoi's childhood, originating from the Takoyaki balls that fell onto his back while protecting her. Because of that, he gains super-human strength and abilities.

Akira Nanase

Voiced by: Yuki Kaida

Akira Nanase is Nephrite's human partner and Rinko's neighbor. First appearing in Episode 16, Akira is Rinko's best friend from America, who suddenly migrated back to Japan and to live as her neighbor. He's part of a Basketball Team in New York City, USA and knows how to play it well through the rules. He also knows a lot of English, which he sometimes shows it off in front of Rinko. His father is a photographer and is often away on his photography business, leaving him in charge of the housework. No one knows about his mother as of now. Even though he brags sometimes, he has a secret crush on Rinko and hates Dian for how he influenced her.

Twinkle

Akari Sakura

Voiced by: Natsumi Takamori

Akari Sakura is the main heroine of Jewelpet Twinkle and both Ruby and Labra's human partner. She is 13 years old, an aspiring manga artist and a student of the Winston Academy as well as the younger sister of Monica Sakura, a famous teen personality and the student council president in middle school. She's bright, gentle, shy, often embarrassed, and lives with her parents. Her dad is a shipbuilding architect while her mom is the chief editor at a magazine. Because of her older sister's popularity, Akari developed an inferiority complex and jealousy to her sister. She first met Ruby on the beach when waiting for the bus. At first, Akari thought Ruby couldn't understand her, but as they got to know each other, Ruby begins to understand how hard Akari's life is and how sad and miserable she can be. Akari later realizes that the feelings of her heart matches Ruby's after a Jewel Charm appears on her hand. She then enters the Magic Academy and becomes a student there, with Ruby as her partner. Akari has goals to win the championship with Ruby in the Jewel Star Grand Prix and to earn the title of being a Jewel Star, though she has a lot of competition for that. Her wishes in the Rarerare (human) world are to be with Yuma and to be a famous manga artist. Unlike the other academy students in the Jewel Land, Akari's powers can go to its full potential when she has something or someone she must protect.

Miria Marigold Mackenzie

Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu

Miria Marigold Mackenzie is Garnet and Sango's human partner in Jewelpet Twinkle. 8 years old, Miria is an American girl who lives in Hollywood, is the daughter of Celine Bright (a famous singer), loves watching cartoons, and loves to dress up as a cat. She considers herself a "KMB" ("Kanzen Muketsu Bishojo," or sometimes translated in English as "Knock-out Marvelous Beauty") and also has a crush on Leon. Miria often brags about her magical skills, though she can sometimes be a bit irresponsible when using her magic (though she learns from her mistakes). She misses both her mom and dad, who were singer and manager respectively. Her mom is often away because of her singing career, and Miria hasn't seen her dad for many years. If Miria obtains the Jewel Star title, she wishes that she would become a pop star just like her mother. Her only fear is snakes. Miria has good magical skills and can use the Jewel Charm to cast magic along with Garnet and Sango, sometimes changing her clothes to her green and pink magical costume to amplify her magic.

Sara

Voiced by: Azusa Kataoka

Sara is Sapphie's human partner in Jewelpet Twinkle. 13 years old and a half-Japanese half-Indian girl with red eyes and blue hair, she's the genius prodigy of the trio (Akari, Miria, and Sara) who likes science, especially chemistry, physics, and inventions, and is constantly reading magic books. She lives away from her parents and doesn't talk much, sometimes coming off as a cold-hearted person. She is expert on using magic with chemistry and magical physics while making her experiments successful. Both Nicola and Miria think she's weird, but Akari thinks Sara is a nice person inside, although she doesn't show it. She and Nicola are rivals due to their knowledge in magic. She is afraid of mushrooms and thinks they are scary. Her wish when she obtains the Jewel Star title is to be a famous scientist. She and Sapphie can cast magic using Sara's Jewel Charm, sometimes changing her attire to her blue magician's outfit to amplify her magic.

Leon

Voiced by: Kenji Akabane (Adult), Aki Kanada (Child)

Leon is Dian's human partner and the oldest candidate of the Jewel Star Grand Prix. A guy from Austria, he has high awareness skills with magic and is also an excellent swordsman, who can use both magic and his swordsmanship. He can also turn his pen into a sword by using magic and uses it in any battle he fights. Miria has a crush on him and he admires Akari's determination in her magic studies. His past is tragic due to the loss of his dog, Roger, during his childhood before he met Dian. Dian encourages him to cheer up and never became depressed and shameful in front of the grave of Leon's departed pet. Leon's wish when he obtains the Jewel Star title is to be the king of Jewel Land and improve the relationship between the Rarerare (human) world and Jewel Land. He and Dian can cast magic using the Jewel Charm and has a magical costume, like the girls, but this isn't shown until episode 37.

Nicola

Voiced by: Momoko Ohara

Nicola is Titana's human partner and the youngest of all the Jewel Star Contestants. He's a young genius pianist from Russia and a smart aleck who likes to annoy Akari and Ruby. He calls himself a Super Genius, though he's a brat. He initially called Ruby and Akari the "dropout pair" due to their low magical ranking. Everyone normally considers him an annoying and arrogant kid, and he sometimes makes Labra cry. Nicola also stands as Sara's rival in the Jewel Star Grand Prix due to their knowledge in magic. His meeting with Titana happened after he won a piano championship as he has good piano playing skills. However, Nicola thinks his mother wasn't pleased with his achievements, making him sad as he was ordered to practice more so he can't fail a competition and get embarrassed. Titana appeared on Nicola's piano when he was crying while practicing at the same time. Titana liked his performance and Nicola's tears of sadness changed to tears of joy, since someone actually liked the piano piece that he played from his heart. His wish after he obtains the Jewel Star title is be recognized as a famous pianist and wanting his mother to recognize his achievements even more as her son. Nicola and Titana can also use magic together and has a magical costume, like the girls, but this isn't shown until episode 42.

Yuma Jinnai

Voiced by: Shinnosuke Tachibana

Yuma Jinnai is Alma's twin brother, living in the Rarerare world, and one of Fealina's twin children. He's Akari's crush in Winston Academy. Yuma is calm and nice, and sometimes helps Akari out in a pinch. Yuma and Alma's mother died a long time ago during their childhood, so Yuma's now living with his grandparents. He also likes basketball; he says so at one point while talking to Akari. In episode 24, Yuma is shown to have a strange birthmark on his right arm, similar to that of Alma's. Alma and Yuma were living together with their mom, Fealina, but both of them were separated by Jewelina during their childhood, after Fealina's death, due to Jewelina's fear of awakening of the forbidden magical item, the Battest.

Alma Jinnai

Voiced by: Megumi Takamoto and Kanako Sasaki

Alma is both Diana and Opal's human partner and the main antagonist of Jewelpet Twinkle. She's the twin sister of Yuma and one of Fealina's twin children. Sometimes called the "strongest wizard in the Jewel Land" by Diana, she is a mysterious person who looks like Yuma except for the long braided hair at the back and the black outfit she wears. In the earlier episodes, she is either hiding in the shadows watching over Akari or she is seeing if she is able to do magic well, and her face is partially covered to prevent her identity to be revealed. Alma's face is revealed in episode 7, watching over Akari through a crystal ball. In episode 23, she is revealed to Akari and her friends alongside Diana. Both Yuma and Alma's mother died a long time ago during their childhood and Jewelina adopted her as her foster child. She then entrusted Halite and Moldavite to take care of her while in the Magic Academy. During that time, she didn't want to interact with everyone else around her or make new friends. She has overwhelming abilities and magical powers that can even rival Jewelina herself (it is later revealed that when Alma and Yuma are together, Alma's powers actually exceed those of Jewelina despite Yuma being a completely normal and magic-less boy), but her magic has a terrible side effect as it drains away her life force and using it continuously would result in her death. It was revealed further in Episode 24 that Alma was actually a girl after Opal used her Jewel Flash, letting Alma's black clothes change to a white dress. (She had taken on the appearance of a boy before because she felt stronger in that form.) She and Yuma were once together but both of them were separated by Jewelina during childhood due to fear of awakening of the forbidden item, the Battest. Because she misunderstood the reason as to why she and Yuma were separated, Alma wants to use the item to take revenge on Jewelina, revive her mother, and let Yuma, Alma herself, and their mother live together again.

Sunshine

Kanon Mizushirou / Kanon Shiraishi

Voiced by: Rei Matsuzaki

She is very posh, mean, nasty and also hated Jewelpets, she can get into serious arguments with Ruby sometimes due to their warped friendship, even to the point of trying to rip each other apart on one occasion (Usually due to them living in the same dormitory). But in the end, both she and the Jewelpet reconcile each other and sometimes cooperate each other onto the worst situations thrown to them. She has a habit on writing love letters and has a crush on Mikage. Later on, she starts to have feelings for Mikage after she tells him that she loves him, Unknowingly that she and Mikage were both twins being separated during their birth. Episode 46 sheds more light to the subject: Both of them were separated during birth because Kanon has a spiral birthmark that could link to a future disaster and forced to live with the Mizushirou Family. After a few dramatic scenes, she then breaks off her love relationship with Mikage and accepts him again as his older twin sibling, in which both families agree.
  • Cry Cute: At times. Even at Ruby's death.
  • Fantastic Racism: This is the reason Kanon gets into arguments with Ruby.

Also one of Ruby's classmates, Shouko is a bit of a favorable girl who sometimes has a tomboyish personality and likes candies. Jewel Land Dezinens

Raku Majo

Voiced by: Nakano Inoue

Raku Majo is the leader of the Four Great Magicians and ruler of Jewel Land in Season 1. She is the one who gives Rinko and Ruby some advice on how to find the Jewelpets as well as the one who gives info to the Prime Minister about the Jewelpet's existence in secret, until the secret was exposed to the world. She also has an ability to create a Jewelpet through a special altar using her magic. Her symbolic color is Pink.

Jewelina / Dark Queen

Voiced by: Ao Takahashi (Jewelpet Twinkle), Yuko Minaguchi (Jewelpet Sunshine)

Jewelina is the Queen and ruler of Jewel Land in Season 2. She is the most powerful of all the magicians of Jewel Land and created the Jewelpets a long time ago from the positive traits of all human beings on Earth. She also created the Jewel Star crown and the Jewel Star Grand Prix. In Episode 8, Judy mentions about her during a conversation with Akari. Jewelina appeared in front of everyone during the festival in Jewel Land in Episode 20. She has a connection with Alma and Yuma's mother, Fealina, although it's not yet stated how. In Jewelpet Sunshine, she retains her role as ruler of Jewel Land but had a major design change from a princess to a queen with wing-like hair. Despite being the queen of Jewel Land, she can be a bit dramatic sometimes in some situations.

Ruby

"I love playing and eating! I'm a little mischievous! I'm Ruby!"

The Jewelpet of Courage or, in later years, Luck, Ruby is the main heroine of the series. She is a white Japanese hare who wears a pink and red cherry blossom on her head, as well as a necklace shaped like a pair of red cherries. Her birthday is on July 29 and her name is based on the gemstone ruby.

In the first series, Ruby is a Jewelpet of the Acrylic rank. Because she is the only one who escapes being dropped on Earth, the Majos send her to find her fellow pets. Her Jewel Charm form falls into Rinko's drinking glass that night and she's awakened by Rinko's magic using the Jewel Pocketbook the next day. Her carelessness gives her partner Rinko a hard time. Despite this, she and Rinko get appointed to find the missing Jewelpets on Earth and to handle every problem they encounter.

In Twinkle, Ruby is a new student in the Magic Academy. Her admittance exam is to find a human partner on Earth who matches the feelings of her heart, and so she meets Akari. After that, she gets accepted in the academy along with Akari and lives with her in the human world. She also acts as Labra's older sister.

In Sunshine, she's a student at the Sunshine Academy and Kanon's roommate, with whom she has trouble getting along. She has a huge crush on Mikage, which worsens her relationship with Kanon.

In Kira Deco, Ruby is the owner of the Kira Kira Shop, and is completely obsessed with decoration. She and her friends meet the KiraDeco 5 one night and they decide to work together to search for the Deco Stones. The Deco Stones tell her she is a Deco Stone Master, the only one who can use the Deco Stones' power and destroy the darkness that plagues the human world.

In Happiness, Ruby is just your average Jewelpet, until she meets Jewelina and is entrusted with the magical Jewel Box. Given a mission to make friends, she is entrusted to fill the jewel box with happiness jewels, but also needs to attend the Jewel Academy and open a shop called the Jewel Cafe. However, things don't go well as several mishaps happen and the students get scared of her. In the verge of giving up, she is befriended by Chiari, a 9th grade student, and they start helping each other out in managing the cafe.

  • Art Shift: For the duration of Lady episode 51, she's drawn slightly more photorealistically.
  • Badass in Distress: She gets kidnapped by Sanada in episode 51 of Happiness and becomes impregnated with Unhappiness to the point where she starts changing color. A magically empowered Chiari goes to rescue her.
  • Big Eater
  • Birds of a Feather: Granite has a similar personality to her in Kira Deco. She also has a great relationship with Pink on account of their tastes and the fact that Pink is more lively and joyful than previous protagonists.
    • She also bonds well with Retsu in some episodes because of their passionate personalities.
  • Book Dumb: Hates studying, which probably doesn't contribute to her already unphenomenal intelligence.
  • Break the CutieSunshine, after Kanon beats her to it in asking Mikage out and he says yes. She got over it shortly after.
  • The Chosen One: The descendant of a legendary wizard in the first series, the only one who can find the Flower of Happiness in Twinkle, a Wise One in Sunshine and a Deco Stone Master in Kira Deco.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Deconstructed in Kira Deco. Kaiser takes advantage of Ruby's protectiveness of Pink to kill the former by pretending to aim for the latter.
  • Cloudcuckoolander
  • Cool Big Sis: To Park in the movie.
  • Cool Crown: Wields one in the movie's climax.
  • Create Your Own Villain: It's revealed in the last episode of Happiness that the crisis of the Red Moon is her fault, because sometime before the show, she drew a face on the mirror of the moon and it reflected in its surface, making people scared of it and causing it to start resenting them and creating Unhappiness. Jewelina summoned all the Jewelpets to collect Magic Gems soon after.
  • Disney DeathSunshine, dies in episode 51, but comes back to life in the next episode through Mikage's love and the power of their rings.
    • In Kira Deco, episode 50 starts with her dying protecting Pink from Kaiser, but the latter manages to revive her at the end of the same episode.
  • The Dulcinea Effect: It's friendship instead of love, but she tackles Pink out of the way of Angela and Labra's arresting spell even though she hardly knows her at the time.
  • Dumb Is Good
  • Ear Ache: Ruby got pulled in the ears twice by Rinko in episode 6. Kanon also tends to swing her around by her ears.
  • Everything's Better with Sparkles: Obsessed with them in Kira Deco.
  • Expy: Of My Melody.
  • Eye Poke: Suffered this in Kira Deco.
  • Fartillery: Has done this few times usually unintentional though. Once on Kanon in Sunshine and on Diana in Kira Deco. She actually used her farts to fly away when chased by Labra in one of the 1-minute shorts in Magical Change.
  • Fiery Redhead: Her human form, since Ruby is Hot-Blooded.
  • Flower Motifs: Ruby wears a cherry blossom hairpin near her right ear. In the language of flowers, the cherry blossom symbolizes kindness.
  • The Fool
  • Friendly Rival: To Kanon in Sunshine and one-sided on her account to Opal in Kira Deco.
  • Fun Personified
  • Gasshole: Somewhat, while fart jokes are rare occurrence in franchise whenever they do happen nearly half the time they involve Ruby. As a result she alone has farted more times onscreen than all the other Jewelpets combined.
  • Genki Girl: Endlessly cheerful and lively.
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: To Akari in the first episode of Twinkle, when the two were falling to their deaths.
  • Hair Decorations: A cherry blossom hairpin.
    • Her human form has a white ribbon resembling rabbit ears.
  • The Heroine: She's the Jewelpet the series follows the most, and usually takes down the Big Bad alongside her human partner (who's also this trope).
  • Heroic Albino: She's a white bunny with red eyes.
  • Hot-Blooded: Certainly an impulsive girl, she can also be extremely passionate when it counts.
  • Hot for Teacher: Her crush on Twinkle-era Tour, who's a teacher.
  • Hour of Power: First series. After achieving Super Crystal class, she loses it in the last episode, after everything settles down. She's very upset at the revelation.
  • Improvised Armour: In episode 36 of Lady, she successfully blocks Romeo's sword thrust with her Jewel Pad.
  • Inept Mage: Her most enduring characteristic. In the more serious seasons, she grows out of it.
  • Interspecies Romance: Tour in the first series and Twinkle, Mikage in Sunshine and Granite in the end of Sunshine and Kira Deco.
  • Iron Butt Monkey: Ruby often gets injured a lot, but she manages to survive through them none-the-less.
    • Squashed Flat: In episode 42 of Sunshine, prompting Peridot to ask how she does it.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: In Sunshine. She's in love with Mikage, but is willing to let him go if he wants to be with Kanon. But because of the incest reveal, she gets together with Mikage; now Granite, in the end.
  • Kawaiiko
  • Killer Rabbit: Comes with being one of the most powerful Jewelpets.
  • Kill the CutieSunshine and Kira Deco. But comes back.
  • The Klutz.
  • Leonine Contract: Raku Majo takes her bad behaviour and more or less blackmails her into going into the human world to recover the Jewelpets.
  • Little Miss Badass: Regardless of her laziness, she is very powerful and shouldn't be provoked.
  • Loser Protagonist: She's dumb, she has terrible grades and her magic fails most of the time. She Took a Level in Badass later on.
  • Made of Explodium: A failed spell in the first series causes an explosion.
  • Memento MacGuffin: Jewelina's Jewel Pod in Kira Deco.
    • In Happiness, it's the Magical Jewel Box that Jewelina gave her.
  • Messianic ArchetypeSunshine and Kira Deco. In both continuities she's destined to save the world and in both continuities she dies and ressurects.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: First series, the Mini Jewel Stick in episode 30.
    • Jewelina's Jewel Pod in episode 27 of Kira Deco.
  • Mighty Whitey: One of the few clearly Japanese animals represented in the franchise is the most important one.
  • Moment Killer: Interrupts Rinko and Akira's kiss in the finale.
  • Motivational Lie: Telling Rinko that her courage spell really works truthfully is more of an attempt to save face, but it does help Rinko when she makes her speech.
  • Mr. Vice Guy: She's lazy and irresponsible as all hell, but firmly on the good side.
  • Naughty Is Good
  • Official Couple: With Tour in the 2009 series and Twinkle and with Granite in Sunshine and Kira Deco.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Though she and Granite are mostly white, they have pink and blue details in their designs respectively (like the inside of their ears and their accessories; eyes would count if not for Ruby's being red).
  • Playboy Bunny: Episode 37 of Sunshine and episode 41 of Kira Deco, if only in an Imagine Spot.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: Usually this to her human partners.
  • Plucky Girl: It's rare to see her looking downcast; if she is, she'll have gotten over it by the episode's ending.
  • Potty Failure: Episode 23 of the first series and Kira Deco.
  • The Prankster: First series and Sunshine.
  • Rascally Rabbit: Loves screwing around more than anything.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: With her ditzy, naive and enthusiastic personality, she's the red oni to a lot of people. Namely her human partners and bunny counterpart Luea.
  • Rescue Romance: In episode 10 of the first series, Ruby is determined to save Tour and protects him from the Phantom Herb Thieves, so that maybe he'll fall in love with her.
  • Retired BadassTwinkle OVA. Currently Walking the Earth with Diana and Opal.
  • Robe and Wizard Hat: Her Puroland counterpart, reused in Twinkle's episode 27.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: Non-fashion variant. Her idea of decoration in Kira Deco involves slapping a lot of colorful junk together with no care at all for any kind of order or congruence.
  • Scully Box: In-Universe. Her Imagine Spots with Mikage often have her standing on staircases or boxes so she can reach his face. When he's not holding her himself, that is.
  • Sean Connery Is About to Shoot You: Near the beginning of Sunshine's OP's 1st version, followed by a Pistol Pose.
    • In other OP sequences, she uses a variation of this with spellcasting.
  • Series Mascot: Obviously, since she's the protagonist.
  • Shipper on Deck: Tends to ship her human partner with her love interest. To wit: Rinko/Akira, Akari/Yuuma, Chiari/Kosuke and Momona/Cayenne. Exceptions occur in Sunshine and Kira Deco; the former because Ruby is also in love with the guy, and the latter because Pink has no real love interest.
  • The Slacker: Always tries to skip out on studying or work.
  • Spit Take: In Season 1 Episode 34, she spits out her orange juice after Amelie brainwashes a baby.
  • Stepford Smiler: While Kanon dates Mikage. You can tell she's trying to hide her sadness in some scenes.
    • Also when Rinko is kidnapped by Dian in episode 46 of the first series.
  • Summoning RitualKira Deco. She needs to do a crazy dance to make Deco Stones come to her and lend her their power.
  • Supporting Protagonist: Yes, she's the main Jewelpet, but in most seasons plays second banana to whatever human she's partnered with (exceptions occur in Happiness and the movie).
  • Taking the Bullet: Sunshine. She shields Kanon and Mikage from the Dark Queen's attack and dies in the process, though she comes back to life.
    • Kira Deco. Gets in Kaiser's way when he attacks Pink; turns out he was aiming for her all along.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: She's hopelessly romantic but things rarely work out exactly as she expects them.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly girl to Peridot in Kira Deco. She followed the path of decoration, while Peridot followed that of adventuring.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Apparently, she was this to Hinata when they were roommates. In episode 21-B of Sunshine, she all but says that she preferred Hinata when she was an Extreme Doormat because then she could mooch off her homework. It's safe to say that Hinata is much better off with Peridot (especially considering she kickstarts her character development) than she was with Ruby.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Carrots all around. Pudding in Sunshine.
  • Training from Hell: Gets it from Labra in episode 50 of the first series, so her magic can reach the Super Crystal class.
  • Unwanted Harem: Gets no less than four romantic options in Sunshine, three of which she actively rejects (and one being a one shot character).
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Kanon in Sunshine. They whale on each other all the time, but when it comes down to it, they do care about each other.
  • Voice of the Legion: In episode 49 of Lady, a Beast speaks through her to talk to Momona, and her voice sounds like this.
  • Walking the Earth: At the end of Twinkle, she goes off to find the Flower of Happiness with Diana, Opal, Jasper and Angela.
  • Wave Motion Gun: Ruby uses powerful magic beams during the final battle in Sunshine. She even resorts to Beam Spam it.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Occasionaly. One example is getting called out for abusing Opal in Sunshine.
  • White Bunny

Garnet

"The most adorable kitten, Garnet, is here!"

The Jewelpet of Love and Beauty, Garnet is a pink Persian cat who wears a red ribbon and a pink jewel necklace. Just like her human partners, Garnet loves the colour pink. Garnet demonstrates an impressive talent for fashion, always knowing what clothing is best for the wearer. Her birthday is on January 8 and her name is based on the gemstone garnet.

In the first series, her partner is Minami after she confessed her weakness. At first Garnet doesn't like her, but when Minami showed Garnet her room, she had a change of heart. She is sassy and tough, yet likes cute stuff. She earned the "Glass Class" ranking in magic because her magic has a success rate of 50%.

In Twinkle, she and Sango were both Miria's Jewepets, both performing magic along with her. She and Sango serve as Miria's conscience on what to do. She and Sango have a crush on Dian.

In Sunshine, she's one of the students of Sunshine Academy. She is stylish and bold and has an idol in Nyanjelina. She dreams of becoming an actress and works very hard towards her dream, making her into something of a workaholic. Has a small rivalry with Diana. Masago loves her, which she is ignorant of, being too distracted with achieving her dream to be in a relationship.

In Kira Deco, Garnet is from a rich family and likes fashionable stuff. She has a crush on one of the Kira Deco 5, Blue Knight, and appointed him as her personal butler, so he has to follow her around. Her Jewel Pod is decorated with lots of jewels.

In Happiness, she is one of Ruby's friends who is given a mission to make friends and open the Jewel Cafe. She works as a waitress and is a steady worker.

  • Big Fancy HouseKira Deco.
  • Bodyguard Crush: With Blue Knight.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Once by M-Kage.
  • Butt MonkeyHappiness. Her troubles over getting the others to do their jobs at the Café is the most obvious expression of this. One episode has her getting repeatedly trampled by crowds as a Running Gag.
  • CatchphraseSunshine. "Strike it rich!", in European dubs, "Money, money, money!
  • Cats Are Snarkers: She's one of the sassiest characters in the franchise and she's a cat.
  • Cat Stereotype: Snobby Persian. Played straight everywhere except Sunshine.
  • Cat Up a Tree: Subverted in episode 2 of the first series. She didn't get stuck, as she was perfectly capable of using her broomstick to get out. She just did it to be a bitch to Minami and Rinko.
  • Cool Crown: Wields one in the movie's climax.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Pink fur and magenta eyes made of garnets.
  • Everything's Cuter with Kittens
  • Everything's Better with SparklesKira Deco.
  • The Fashionista: All of her incarnations. Garnet is a walking prima donna when it comes to clothes.
  • The Four Loves: The Jewelpet of Eros.
  • Hair Decorations: A ribbon.
  • Heartbroken Badass: Sunshine, in episode 25. She gets over it come end of the episode.
  • Humongous MechaSunshine; a giant prop of herself that she used in her comedy shows gets modified by Sapphie into this and is used in the final showdown arc against mecha-Sango.
  • Hypocritical Humor: She frequently criticizes Ruby's behaviour but often goes on to do the exact same things as her.
    • A specific case is her mocking Ruby's chaotically decorated Jewel Pod; she then shows off her own and it's as haphazardly decorated, the sole difference being that her materials are more elegant.
  • Interspecies Romance: Masago in Sunshine, Blue Knight in Kira Deco.
  • Lady and Knight: With Blue Knight.
  • Large Ham: Particularly when she's talking herself up as the ultimate symbol of Love and Beauty.
  • Little Miss Badass: Not as powerful as Ruby, but still a threat to be reckoned.
  • Love HurtsSunshine. Getting dumped by your boyfriend so he can get together with his old flame right before your eyes? And leaving you standing in the rain? That was douchey...
  • Love TriangleSunshine - she, Dian and Diana.
  • Married to the JobSunshine. She disregards love in favor of chasing her dream of being an actress. She even tells Masago while turning him down, "I'm already in love... with my dream."
  • MeidoSunshine, working in the Strawberry Cafe.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: First series, the Mini Jewel Stick in episode 30.
  • Ms. Vice Girl: Very vain and arrogant, but a hero nonetheless.
  • My Instincts Are Showing: In her and Miria's fight against Ruby and Akari, Ruby distracts her with a foxtail, prompting her to chase and paw at it, and Miria has to snap her out of it.
  • Natural Weapon: She sometimes uses her claws in dire situations, or when someone has generally pissed her off, like when she uses them on Hisashi for being insensitive to Minami.
  • Out of Focus: In Lady, after Momona moves to the Royal Palace.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She's rose-colored and strives to be the epitome of feminine beauty.
  • Plucky Girl: In Sunshine. She's extremely determined to become a celebrity and works her butt off towards that goal.
  • The Power of Love: It's what she represents.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivers one to Miyamoto when he turns into a lazy bum in episode 5 of the first series.
  • Retired BadassTwinkle OVA, alongside Sango.
  • Robe and Wizard Hat: Her Puroland counterpart.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Or rather, "Rose-Furred Sweetie", to be exact. Her fur is rose-colored and she's not called the Jewelpet of Love for nothing.
  • Series Mascot: Part of the trio of main characters.
  • Those Two Girls: It's hard to dissociate her from Sango in Twinkle.
  • Token Evil Teammate: She's one Token Evil Teammate of the Mascot Trio alright. While she does have her sassiness, she's not entirely evil. She's still a civil persian cat who means well.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She's the (very) Girly Girl to two of her human partners - Minami from the first series and Mizuki from Lady.
  • Tsundere: Exhibits the personality in both romantic (Blue Knight) and non-romantic (anything else, really) contexts. Labra lampshades it in episode 33 of Happiness. Otherwise, usually downplayed and averted in the first two Jewelpet seasons and Lady Jewelpet.
  • Tsurime Eyes: Her appearance.
  • Verbal Tic: Played with in Happiness. She forcefully puts "ga" and "net" at the end of phrases after seeing that most Jewelpets do it, in hopes that it'll add to her personality, but when speaking normally she never uses them.
  • With Friends Like These...: She's introduced in the first series bad-mouthing Ruby, even though the latter was busying herself finding shells to give to her.
  • The Worf Effect: Her defeat in episode 50 of Sunshine subverts what the audience expects of her as a member of the main trio.
  • WorkaholicSunshine shows this in a positive light, with Garnet being focused on making a living the best way she can while still attending auditions.
    • It's more negatively portrayed in Happiness, which portrays her as neurotic and obsessive with her work at the Cafe.

Tour

The Jewelpet of Adventure, Tour is a gray American shorthair cat who wears a necklace shaped like a green star. His birthday is on October 13 and his name is based on the jewel tourmaline.

Debuting in episode 10 of the first series, he's aristocratic, charismatic and kind to everyone, especially to Ruby, who loves him. He is a good adventurer and has good physical capabilities.

In Twinkle, he's Sulfur's Jewelpet partner and therefore a teacher. He's Ruby's Love Interest here, too.

In Sunshine, he is in the Rose class and is Ruby's childhood friend and later ex-boyfriend. He got his personality switched during his time in Spain via a magic mishap with a Spanish man, and later attempts to win Ruby's heart, but he ended up failing to Mikage.

In Kira Deco, Tour is a member of the Four Heavenly Kings and he and Kohaku are assigned Coal's job of taking the Deco Stones.

In Happiness, he is a nature lover who despises the big city. When Mouri can't overcome his fear of table tennis, Tour makes it his task to train him and get over his fear. Their bond creates a Magic Gem.

  • Adaptational VillainyKira Deco.
  • Big Brother Instinct: First series, towards Minami's twin brothers that he's bonded with.
  • Blue Blood: Said to be this in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it line in the first series. It doesn't have bearing on anything at all.
  • The Brute: Out of the Decoranain, he's the most likely to use brute force (like throwing a cactus or flailing his guitar).
  • Butt-MonkeySunshine.
  • CatchphraseSunshine. "I am Tour! El tornado y el toro bravo!"
  • Cats Are Mean: Usually averted everywhere except in Kira Deco.
  • Cat Stereotype: Grey and a mentor-type character in Twinkle. Otherwise, averted.
  • Crash-Into Hello: How he met Ruby in the first series.
  • Distressed Dude: When he was captured by Diana in episode 25 of the first series.
  • Determinator / Dogged Nice Guy: Quite the persistent guy in Sunshine. In episode 48 he tells Ruby that he won't stop playing his guitar until she gives an answer to his confession. Even after a string snaps and hurts his hand, he refuses to stop.
  • Era-Specific Personality: He's charismatic and gentlemanly in the first 2 seasons. Sunshine turns him into an obnoxious never-give-up guy with literal brain damage; in Kira Deco he's that and a villain. In Happiness, he's arrogant but has a good heart deep down.
  • Gratuitous SpanishSunshine.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Kohaku in Kira Deco.
  • Hopeless SuitorSunshine. He can't take the hint that Ruby loves Mikage until one of the last episodes. Also, Ruby makes it clear that she has no taste for the tics he picked up in Spain.
  • Hot-BloodedSunshine.
  • In Harm's Way: Adventure is his characteristic, so naturally he has an urge for it in the first series.
  • Jerk with a Heart of GoldHappiness. He picks on people who live in the city and mocks Mouri in particular, but later helps him overcome his fear of table tennis.
  • Latin LoverSunshine.
    • As well as Kira Deco. He drops it when he and Kohaku assert their partnership, but it's back on the next time we see him...
  • Meaningful Name: When you're going on a "tour" you can have a lot of adventures, which is exactly his jewel power.
  • Mentor Mascot: To Sulfur in Twinkle.
  • Nature HeroHappiness. He lives in the woods and despises the city and the people in it.
  • Nice HatSunshine. Wears a stetson for some reason. Maybe he picked it up from Spaghetti Westerns? It's carried over to Kira Deco; probably due to his popularity in Sunshine.
  • Official Couple: With Ruby in the 2009 series and Twinkle.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: Inverted in Sunshine. He attempts to get Ruby to come back together as a couple, until Mikage steps in and transforms into Granite in the epilogue of the series.
  • Punny Name: Concerning his spaniard character in some seasons - the joke is that the Japanese pronounciation of his name is similar to the Spanish word for 'bull' (to wit: "Tooru" - "toro", get it?).
  • Stalker with a CrushSunshine.
  • Unlucky Childhood FriendSunshine.
  • Uptown Girl: In the first series, he's an aristocrat and Ruby has a crush on him.
  • Verbal Tic: "To~ru!"
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: See Kohaku's entry.
