Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

  • Nightmare Fuel: Nile Adventure, about through mid-leg of the trip, has you go through a tunnel that looks like a giant snake, and then somewhat before the finish line, you encounter a weird serpent like beast that acts as an obstacle.
  • Awesome Music: A unique case regarding that unlike most racing games (and pretty much any 90s game in general) is that instead of the standard techno or metal/rock soundtrack, the game has an orchestral/rock soundtrack. It really comes to head in Venice Canals, with the intense, operatic score to go with the pace of racing at high-speeds through the old City of Canals.
  • Funny Moments: You can race a freakin' rowboat or a model of the Titanic!
    • Also, smashing into various obstacles (like civilian boats, penguins, monkeys, the police chasing you, etc...) well send them flying and playing some kind of goofy sound effect.
    • And VENICE CANALS.
    • How could you forget the Tarzan scream, Yee-haws, and the "Buckle up Reggie, This one's gonna hurt!" when you fall from a really high slope, waterfall, or structure?
    • "If you look carefully, you will see that the graphics are made up of thousands ot little triangles." (ooohhh)
    • Hurricane has plenty, including the announcer using the "I Can See My House From Here" line, some random Announcer Chatter in the Area 51 level once the alien overlords have taken over, and being able to race as a rubber ducky, complete with a windup key for the boost animation.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The New York Disaster stage, in a game that was released two years before the 9/11 attacks.
  • Moment of Awesome: Lake Powell is all about this. There's a huge ramp in near the start that allows you to fly over a few rock formations, and then there's the part where you can use the back of the dam towards the end to fly over a helicopter and passing train...
    • P.S.: For added fun, hit the helicopter... AND the train.
    • You and everyone else manage to inadvertently rescue a stranded ship by leading rescuers to it.
  • Porting Disaster: Very much subverted, as this was a game of the mid-late 90s, so the arcade version was somewhat inferior in the case that on the console version, you'd have a better chance to play the bonus stages and race the bonus boats.
  • Scrappy Level: Ship Graveyard and Venice Canals, mostly because of all the sharp turns and most boost powerups are hidden.
