  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

  • Literally any screaming YouTuber. π˜Όπ™‡π™‡ π™Šπ™ π™π™ƒπ™€π™ˆ! It's a headphone user's worstest nightmare.
  • Not to mention every single screaming crossover videos which only involves nothing but... well, screaming, Please don't click on any of them. It will cause you to stop watching YouTube for the day, or a month, or a week, or a year, or worse... 𝔽𝕆ℝ𝔼𝕍𝔼ℝ.
  • Van Sowerwine's "Play With Me" has *scrape* *scrape* *scrape* *scrape* coupled with the sound of rattling tea cups that becomes progressively louder with each *scrape*. As well as a squeaking sound that sounds like someone is dragging their fingernails across glass ever so slowly, with the same rattling tea cups sound mixed in. And then the bit where the little girl starts crying while some ominous music plays, or when she tears a drawing out of a notebook, and crumbles it up loudly, while you hear the sound of her chair rocking back and forth with her crying silently. Or the scratching sound when she scratches her hand deeply with her fingernails fast enough to draw blood...
  • You Awaken in Razor Hill. scr@pe.
  • Muto has such things like the sound of clay heads falling and hitting the ground like raindrops, the sounds of humanoid clay drawings crawling on the grounds and on the walls, a squeaky door opening, spiders munching on a giant humanoid clay head...
  • Marble Hornets makes wonderful use of audio distortion to indicate whether a certain slender man is nearby.
    • In more recent videos, it also seems to indicate the presence of The Masked Man/totheark/ Tim
    • And early Slenderman stories feature him making a "low children's laugh, like a giggle". Though this was creepy, it was later decided that him being silent was even more disturbing.
      • Slenderman appears to speak or mimic Jay, repeating the word "Hello" in Entry #23.
    • Everyman HYBRID and Tribe Twelve follow the trend, and Dreams in Darkness suggests that instead of being distortions on the tapes, the noises might actually be happening in realtime due to that thing's presence.
      • Speaking of Everyman HYBRID, the Rake. Dear god, it's voice is absolutely horrifying.
  • In the Doctor Who webisodes, Scream of the Shalka. It's not the scream that will leave you , it's the slooooooowly rising vibrations you hear as they start to respond to the sounds the characters make...
  • Used often in the point-and-click game The House (warning: some violence & flashing lights). Uses such things like dripping water, scary piano music, radio static, a ticking clock, heartbeats, footsteps, childish giggling, thunder, and various other sounds to a very effective degree.
  • There Will Be Brawl has a significant amount.
    • The music playing when Olimar takes Luigi to his spaceship in Episode 5 is haunting, but not quite scary. It does, however, start setting the tone for what comes next. Once they enter the spaceship, the music gets creepier, and the violin screeches when Olimar kills and chops up the Pikmin, combined with their death screams, will make you shudder every single time, even when you know it's coming.
    • The ending of Episode 5: BING! BONG! BONNNNGggg... when the pile of DeDeDe's guts are found with his hammer sticking out of them
      • Of course, that segues right into Crowning Music of Awesome with the credits tune being a rock version of the Dr. Mario tune.
    • In-universe: Judging from his scream, it's likely that Mario's psychotic laughing will become this to Lakitu after Mario runs him over with a Yoshi at the end of Episode 6. (Ironic in that this happens while he is reporting that the kingdom is rid of the Mario Brothers. Out-of-universe: It combines Crowning Moment of Funny and Crowning Moment of Awesome.
    • Then, after you find out what they signify in Episode 9, the electronic chirps and beeps of the Game & Watches in Episode 10: The Series Finale. Before Episode 9, you've heard them, but they're not scary, because you didn't know to be afraid of them.
      • Fox: What is wrong? What is noises?
    • The hard-to-describe sound (synthesized drums?) that occurs when the spotlights are lit in the Butchers' Lair, illuminating the trophies.
    • Absolutely, the sound of Ness' bat scraping on the ground.
    • The chimes playing during the Peach-trophy telekinetic marionette scene.
    • Kirby: HIIIIiiiiiiii....
  • The Chechclear Shock Site video, with the gurgling and wheezing as the knife cuts through his throat.
  • Homestuck: honk
  • Ben Drowned gives us the Reverse Song of Healing in all of its nightmare-inducing splendor. Brrr....
  • Atop the Fourth Wall gives us the noise that the Entity makes when it's claiming one of its victims. Then the creepy laugh that follows it.
    • When The Spoony One hears it he actually says the trope name word for word.
    • Even worse when you realize that IT'S NOT JUST A RANDOM NOISE. Hhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmaaaaaaannnnnnnnnn...
      • Is it talking to the victims, or...?
