Characters original to IDW's take on the Ghostbusters. For those who appeared in the films, see here.
Ghostbusters[]
Kylie Griffin[]
- Badass Bookworm: Prefers research but can kick ass.
- Beleaguered Assistant: Often comes across as one to Egon.
- Canon Immigrant: From Extreme Ghostbusters.
- Deadpan Snarker: Pretty much a job requirement.
- Perky Goth
- Slapstick Knows No Gender: If Peter isn't covered by ghostly residue, then expect Kylie to be.
Melanie Ortiz[]
- Characterization Marches On: Was originally an expy of Dana Scully before she came around to the existence of ghosts.
- Deadpan Snarker: Even by Ghostbusters standards, she overflows with snark.
- Only Sane Man: Her FBI training probably helped.
- Spicy Latina
- Unfazed Everyman: Adapts to the weirdness of the Ghostbusters very well.
Ron Alexander[]
- Comic Book Fantasy Casting: Visually based off of a young Chevy Chase.
- Creative Sterility: Per Word of God, he can tinker with, and upgrade, old inventions, even create attachments for them, but cannot design any wholly original inventions.
- Evil Counterpart: To Peter Venkman.
- The Friend Nobody Likes: For a given value of "friend."
- Gadgeteer Genius: Sleazy con-man he may be, he stole the blueprints for the proton packs and managed to modify them, significantly upping their destructive potential.
- Only in It For the Money: Even worse than Venkman.
Jenny Moran[]
- Badass Bureaucrat: This girl knows her legal loopholes.
- Beware the Nice Ones: One of the nicest girls ever but don't hurt Ray when she's around. Even more so when she becomes a Class 4.
- Comic Book Fantasy Casting: A very sweet example as she's based off of Donna Dixon, Dan Akroyd's real life wife.
- Cute Ghost Girl
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold
- Heroic Sacrifice: Throws herself into the containment unit during the Crossing Over miniseries to save the day.
Ectotron[]
- Birds of a Feather: With Ray. Both are overeager, childlike, physicists.
- Cool Car: Take a wild guess which car a Cybertronian Ghostbuster turns into.
- The Klutz
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: The first Cybertronian, and interstellar, Ghostbuster.
- Put on a Bus: Once he gets a handle on operating the proton pack, he could probably handle most of the Ghostbusters' problem by sheer physical strength. As such, he leaves Earth to go hunt for any more Cybertronian ghosts.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: His full name is Ectronymous Diamatron but Janine and Peter convinced him that such a name is too long for any sane individual to say. Egon calls by his full name.
Villains[]
Tiamat[]
- Adaptational Badass: Was a dragon demon in the cartoon. Is a full on Eldritch Abomination here.
- Always Someone Better: To Gozer.
- The Bad Guy Wins: Wins in "Mass Hysteria." Fortunately, she never wanted Earth destroyed. She just wanted to be a bitch to Gozer.
- Exact Words: She swore to stay out of the Ghostbusters' dimension. But they've been hopping around the Multiverse quite a bit.
- For the Evulz: Why she does anything.
- Manipulative Bastard
- Snake People
The Collectors[]
- Deal with the Devil: The price for summoning them is a piece of the summoner's soul and sanity.
- The Dividual: Egon mentions that they act as one even though they're four. Trap all four and they're helpless.
- Villain Team-Up: With Darius Dun in the second TMNT crossover.
Proteus[]
- Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Hunted down The Real Ghostbusters because he feared that they would one day trap him.
Erland Vinter[]
- Big Bad Wannabe: Of Ghostbusters: International.
- Comic Book Fantasy Casting: Modelled after Ed Begley Jr.
- Self-Made Man
Loftur Thorsteinsson[]
- Big Bad: Of Ghostbusters: International. He needs the boys in grey to find the Rauoskinna and allow him full control over Satan.
- Dragged Off to Hell: After one too many times of giving Lucifer the slip.
Aibell[]
- Evil Is Petty: Placed curses on people for the barest of reasons.
- Horned Humanoid
- Who Wants to Live Forever?: The curse she placed on Una O'Neill.
- Woman Scorned: Cursed Una for breaking the heart of a man she liked.
Kremzeek[]
- Adaptational Badass: Quite a bit more lucid and powerful than he was in the original cartoon.
- Adaptational Villainy: In the cartoon, Kremzeek, while dangerous, was not actively malicious. This Kremzeek is a wannabe god who dreams of destroying planets.
- Deal with the Devil: Turned Decepticon High Command into ghosts so that they'd live, so to speak, through Gozer. Failed to mention that the price for this was aiding him in finding and absorbing the AllSpark.
- Evil Is Hammy: Unlike most Ghostbusters villains, he loves big, dramatic speeches. While Ray is shocked by this, Optimus notes that it's pretty standard for a Transformers baddie.
- Humanoid Abomination: A Class 5 one, though he appears on the low end of the scale. It's why he wants to absorb the AllSpark.
- Outside Context Villain: To the Ghostbusters. As an alien, and partially electrical, being, he doesn't follow the rules of ordinary ghosts. Proton streams can't hold him and he and his sprites are have such a high electrical charge that they can destroy the ghost traps.
- On the flipside, the Ghostbusters are this to him. He can deal with Transformers, other aliens, and is capable of even interstellar teleportation but he has no idea how to defend against the electrical ghost that the Ghostbusters unleash against him.
- Shock and Awe
