The Order of Heroes[]
The Summoner[]
The Player Character of the game, a person from Earth. Their default name is Kiran and it can be changed, plus later versions also allow to modify their looks (albeit using pre-made portraits). They're summoned by Commander Anna to Askr, so they can use the sacred relic Breidablik to summon "Heroes" to battle.
- All-Loving Hero: Many comments from the Heroes themselves state that Kiran is very kind, gentle and selfless, letting him/her gain the trust and affection of even the biggest jerkasses. i.e Kronya, one of the most unlikeable summoned heroes, ends up shouting "Why Can't I Hate You?!" at them in her Level 40 Talk with them.
- Ambiguous Gender: Since their face isn't seen no one seems to know whether they're a man, a woman, or else.
- Averted later: there were eight prospective portraits released, four representing young men and four looking like young women.
- The Chosen One: Of course.
- Fish Out of Water: As said above, Kiran is a normal teenager/young adult from Earth who's brought to Askr by Anna's summoning ritual. Some of the dialogue between them and the Askrians (or what the player can read of them) implies that s/he tells them how the modern world is.
- Heroic Mime: While they do talk in-story, their 'side' of the conversations is never shown.
- The Gunslinger: Subverted, their gun is to summon the Heroes and not to fight the enemies. It's still a VERY important Sacred Weapon, according to Gunnthrá.
- Player Character: Represents the players themselves.
- Workaholic: So much, half the dialogues with Heroes in My Castle are aabout them telling him or her to take a rest.
Commander Anna[]
This game's Anna is the leader of the Order of Heroes, a group of heroes from other worlds and Askr citizens who try to keep the peace in the continent of Zenith.
- An Axe to Grind: Her Weapon of Choice, unlike other Annas who tend to favor swords or bows / arrows.
- Fiery Redhead: Mostly when she's in her moneymaking schemes, since she's otherwise calmer.
- Money Fetish: Slightly less present than in other Annas, since there's more emphasis on her leadership of the Order. The Paralogues, however, raise this side of her Up to Eleven.
- Running Gag: She always, ALWAYS fails to get said money-making plans to work.
- Team Mom: As the leader of the Order, she not only leads them in battle but in everyday life.
Prince Alfonse[]
The serious Crown Prince of Askr, who due to a tragedy in the past is reluctant to personally befriend Heroes as a whole. He's still as kind and helpful as possible.
- Awesomeness By Analysis: He's pretty observant and fast-thinking, which saves his life via letting him use a certain loophole in Hel's curse in Book III.
- The Comically Serious: Often stuck as a Straight Man to Sharena and Anna.
- Fatal Flaw: His emotions often get in the way of his judgement, according to his father Gustav.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: His Weapon of Choice.
- Multicolored Hair: Mostly blue with blond tips. If the tips are silvery rather than golden... that's Líf, not Alphonse.
- Never Be Hurt Again: Zacharias' loss shattered him, and this is why he keeps the Heroes a bit at arms' length.
- Warrior Prince
[]
The cheerful Princess of Askr, unlike her brother she still wants to be friends with all the Heroes she can talk to.
- Badass Princess: A very cute and very effective fighter.
- Blade on a Stick: Her Weapon of Choice.
- Genki Girl: Contrasting with the serious Alfonse.
- The Unfavorite: While not unloved by Gustav and Henriette, they focus more on her older brother and his duty as Crown Prince than on her. It doesn't help that she seems to be Book Dumb compared to him.
Zacharias[]
A mysterious member of the Order, who trained the Prince and Princess and was their friend. His disappearance greatly affected them, especially Alfonse. He is actually Prince Bruno of Emblia, alias the Mysterious Man.
Feh[]
A cute messenger owl in employ of the Order.
- Team Pet: D'awwww, ain't she adorable?
The Kingdom of Askr[]
King Gustav[]
The current King of Askr, Henriette's husband and the father of Alfonse and Sharena. Serious and duty-bound, he wants Alfonse to be a great leader.
- Fantasy-Forbidding Father: He objected to Alfonse joining the Order of Heroes, wanting him instead to focus on being King. He has his reasons, though.
- Heroic Sacrifice: When Hel curses Alfonse to die, he takes the fatal blow after nine days pass. He manages to do it via a Loophole Abuse - their shared lineage allows him to take his son's place as the victim of the curse, pluse he's already fatally ill so it'll be Worth It..
- My Greatest Failure: The reason he doesn't want Alfonse fighting on the front lines with the Order of Heroes. In the past, he was just like his son, but when he tried to fight Hel herself his father was killed, and he ended up with a scar. It haunts him to this day, and he just wants to protect Alfonse from the same pain...only for history to repeat itself.
- Parents as People: He loves his children, but his duty to Askr comes first.
- Strong Family Resemblance: Basically, Alfonse when he reaches his 40's/50's
Queen Henriette[]
The current Queen of Askr, Gustav's wife and the mother of Alfonse and Sharena. More open with her emotions than her husband.
- The High Queen: When Gustav cannot be around, Henriette shows herself to be a very capable Queen. Especially after his Heroic Sacrifice in Book III.
- Genki Girl: A grown-up version.
- Secret Keeper: The only one who knows that Gustav is dying.
- Strong Family Resemblance: Just like Alfonse is a teen version of Gustav, Henriette is basically an Older and Wiser Sharena.
Ash[]
A young woman who's the retainer to Askr, the God that watches over the Kingdom.
- Cute Clumsy Girl: In the Opening Movie for Book Six, she literally falls from the skies and into Kiran's arms. When Elm shows up to attack them and Alfonse, she charges at him and trips on her feet - then rolls on the ground, recovers her footing and properly attacks. This doesn't happen in game, though.
- Dark-Skinned Blond: Of the White-Haired Pretty Girl variation.
- Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: To the point that there's a bit of a Running Gag where she always gets interrupted when she's explaining something.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: She's a Beast Unit and can transform into a cow-like Beast.
The Emblian Empire[]
Princess Veronica[]
The Crown Princess of the Emblian Empire, a creepy young girl with great talent for magic. Said and latrer shown to be a deeply sad child under her ruthless facade.
- Big Brother Worship: One of her biggest pains is how her beloved older brother is not with her. Said brother is Bruno aka Zacharias aka the Mysterious Man, and they can only meet in limited circumstances.
- Black Magician Girl: Ayup.
- Dark Magical Girl: While she's not the kindest person around, Veronica is shown to be a forlorn child with quite the issues.
- Defrosting Ice Queen: Slowly, she shows a somewhat gentler side and teams up more than once with the Order.
- Everyone Has Standards: She may send Heroes after the main cast, but lets them go if they lose instead of punishing them. She also makes a point to conquer but not destroy, and does not attack civilians at all.
- White Magician Girl: Her alternate self/Brave Hero version is a healer on horseback.
The "Mysterious Man"[]
A masked Magic Knight who at times helps Veronica and at others encounters the heroes on his own. He is the below mentioned Prince Bruno of Emblia (Veronica's older half-brother) and once lived in Askr... under the name Zacharias.
- Aloof Ally: First solely to Veronica, later to the Order too.
- Big Brother Instinct: He's very protective of Veronica. And is her brother.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Explained some time later. He was born as Bruno, one of the Emblian Princes. However, his mother was loathed by the Royal Family and accused her of being a traitor to the Crown, imprisoning her and causing her death. Bruno was banished to the borders and reinvented himself as a knight named Zacharias, who became good friends with Alfonse and Sharena and even was with the Order or Heroes... but a dark curse that hit the Royal Family of Emblia started to hit him, causing him to become borderline Brainwashed and Crazy and almost killing Alfonse at some point. He's been desperately looking for ways to end the curse, protect his little sister Veronica who seems to be affected wit it, etc.
- Dark Magical Boy: He opposes the heroes sometimes, at others aids them, but is always aloof.
- Mr. Fanservice: He's very good-looking (even with his mask on) and brooding, is shown to have a Heroic Build in his "Damaged Sprite"...
Prince Bruno[]
A missing member of the Emblian Royal Family who is sometimes mentioned in the plot.
- Walking Spoiler: That he is Veronica's older brother and Alfonse and Sharena's lost friend Zacharias.
Elm[]
The retainer to the Goddess Embla, who's been given the mission to kill those who have the blood of the Askr God.
- Evil Redhead: A pale young man with red hair, and The Dragon to Embla the Goddess.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: He can transform into a bat-like Beast.
Letizia[]
A membress of the Emblian Royal Family, but not really in the line for the throne. She's a sister-like figure for Veronica and also leads the Curse Directive, the Emblian equivalent of the Order of Heroes (which works more like a Secret Police).
- Cool Big Sis: Veronica's. Nope - she pretended to care for her, but in reality hates her so much that she wants the poor kid to fall as low as possible.
- Fallen Princess: Apparently, her family fell out of grace under accusations of treachery. Which is why she's so angry at Veronica and the Royal Family-
Múspell, the Kingdom of Fire[]
King Surtr[]
The cruel, war-happy sovereign of Múspell. His invasion of Nifl kicks off Book Two, and the heroes must stop him before he invades Askr as well.
- Abusive Parents: He treats his daughters as if they were possessions, seeing them as completely disposable if it serves his conquest plans. ie., he beats Laevatein severely offscreen and berates her onscreen for losing more than once, and tries to force her to go through a ritual that will empower her briefly and then kill her.
- Bad Boss: To his gruff but deep-down kind retainer, Helbindi. Which costs him GREATLY at the very end.
- Big Bad: Of Book II. He invaded Nífl and destroyed it, intends to conquer Askr and any otrher realms handy, wants to subject Ylgr and Veronica to a Virgin Sacrifice to keep his Complete Immortality, etc.
First Princess Laegjarn[]
The Crown Princess of Múspell, who unlike her evil father is kind and honorable.
- Benevolent Boss: To Laevatein and Helbindi.
- Big Sister Instinct: She's very very protective of Laevatein. So much that she willingly performs the Rite of Múspell so she won't have to, knowing that it will kill her.
- Weak but Skilled: Considers herself as such, saying she's not as strong as others but makes up for it with her cunning plans.
- Worthy Opponent: Considers the Askrans and Fjorm as one, to the point that as she lays dying, she asks them to protect Laevatein and says she would've liked to be friends with Fjorm under different circumstances.
Second Princess Laevatein[]
The emotionless, serious Princess of Múspell, who considers herself one with her blade.
- Emotionless Girl and Extreme Doormat: Due to Surtr's horrible raising, the girl barely considers herself a person and has next to no real emotions, following orders near blindly. She only starts showing them properly after she learns of her sister's death.
- Evil Redhead: Anti-Villainous version. She's not evil at all, but will follow the orders she's given without question.
Helbindi[]
The top-dog amongs Surtr's retainers. However, he is not cruel by nature even when he tries to hide his kindness.
- Face of a Thug: Not a bad person, but pretty intimidating at first sight.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Extremely harsh and gruff, but his kindness shines through.
- Odd Friendship: With Princess Ylgr. He hates to admit he has a soft spot for her, but he does.
- Promotion to Parent: He's an rophan who raises his younger sister, Menja. In fact, Ylgr reminds him of her. And whne she's killed by Surtr as punishment for his failures agaisnt the heores, ALL BETS ARE OFF.
- Punch Clock Villain: He wouldn't be serving Surtr if not for him needing money to raise his sister.
- Spanner in the Works: He completely ruins Surtr's plans to sacrifice Ylgr and Veronica to keep his immortality, via spiritng the girls away to safety and attacking him in a Taking You with Me manner as punishment for destroying the slums where he lived and killing his sister and ward Menja.
Múspell[]
The impulsive, Hot-Blooded God that founded the Kingdom of Múspell itself. A series of Tempest Trials focuses on him and the Goddess Nífl trying to settle their mutual scores via choosing their own champions; in his case, he revives Laegjarn and forces her fight in his name.
Nifl, the Kingdom of Ice[]
Crown Prince Hríd[]
The eldest of the living Nifl royals and the heir to the throne. He warned his younger sisters about Múspell's upcoming invasion and did his best to hold Surtr off, but was forced to go into hiding; he tried to use this to lurk around the invader and try to assassinate him...
First Princess Gunnthrá[]
Second Nifl Royal and a motherly figure for her siblings, plus a powerful spellcaster. She also had to hide away after the invasion, but found a way to use her magic to communicate with the cast.
Second Princess Fjorm[]
The Second Princess of Nifl, a Lady of War in training. She witnessed her mother the Queen's murder at the hands of Surtr and tried to fight him off, but barely survived. She was taken in by the Order of Heroes, and from then on she's determined to return their kindness AND avenge the fall of her mother and her homeland.
Third Princess Ylgr[]
The youngest Nifl Royal, a proimising knife fighter who, unlike her siblings she couldn't escape from the Múspell invaders. She's held prisoner by Surtr alongside Veronica for secret yet nefarious deals, and tries to bond with her jailer Helbindi.
Nífl the God[]
The Goddess that watches over Nífl the Kingdom, she once blessed its first Queen (Hrvegel) but was deeply hurt by her death. She chooses Fjörm as her champion in the Tempest Trials.
Hel, the Realm of the Dead[]
Queen Hel[]
The calculating Queen of the Realm of the Dead, named like her. Cold and scheming, she believes every single soul is destined to be in her realm, and really wants to speed up the process via taking over Askr and then Zenith. She is also Eir's mother.
- Abusive Parents: She's pretty cold to her daughter and has her join the Order to influence them even when the girl truly desires to have friends. It's later revealed that not only she killed Eir's biological parents, but killed and revived her hundreds of times to feed off her powers.
- Archnemesis Mom: Eir's
- The Grim Reaper: The FE version.
- Sinister Scythe: Her Hel Scythe
Princess Eir[]
The sad and kind Princess of the Hel Realm, told by her mother to infiltrate the Order of Heroes. Despite her conflicted feelings over it, Eir allows herself to be captured and then requests to join the Order; her wish is granted, but Anna warns her that if she tries to betray them, they'll kill her.
- Becoming the Mask: According to Hel, she has to join the Heroes to destroy them from the inside. Unsurprisingly, she loves and cares for them for real. And she always did - in the Bad Timeline she befriended them, only to lose them... so now she's determined to save them.
- Broken Bird: Oh, where to begin. For starters, the fact that her dragon blood led her (adoptive) mother to kill her over and over again until she was on her last life, just to increase her own power.. She has also been lonely for most of her life, causing her to join the Heroes to save them from being annhilated like in the Bad Timeline.
- I Just Want to Have Friends: She really, really does.
- Lady of War: An elegant and beautiful fighter who uses the throwing blade Lyfjaberg in battle.
Líf[]
The founder and first King of the Askr Kingdom, a man of few words known as the Lethal Swordsman. Once a noble warrior and king, he is now a slave to Queen Hel's will. Not really. According to Chapter 8 of Book III, he's an alternate Alfonse from a Bad Future where Askr was taken over and Sharena was murdered, leaving him (now known as Líf) as the Sole Survivor.
Thrásir[]
The founder and first Emperor/Empress of the Emblian Empire, referred to as the Omnicidal Witch. Like Líf, she has gone from a mighty warrior to a reanimated minion of Queen Hel. Again, not really: just like Líf is the Alfonse of a Bad Future, Thrásir is the Veronica of that timeline.
Ganglöt[]
The handmaid of Queen Hel, who after the events of Book III is a serious candidate for the throne. Considering Eir as an obstacle to it and hating her for "betraying" the Realm of the Dead, she shows up during the Tempest Trials...
Ljósálfarheimr, the Land of Dreams[]
Dream King Freyr[]
The quiet, gentle King of Ljósálfarheimr, the land where dreams come from. Caring and just, he desires peace above everything. His sister and biggest rival is Frejya, the Queen of Dökkálfarheimr.

Mirabilis[]
Another Ljósálfar and a friend of Peony. She has power over daydreams rather than dreams themselves.
Dökkálfarheimr, the Land of Dark Dreams[]
Lady Freyja[]
The troubled younger sister of King Freyr and Queen of Dökkálfarheimr, the realm of nightmares
Triandra[]
One of the Dökkálfar, who opposes the Heroes via bringing nightmares to people. In fact, she traps the Order in the dark dream that Peony saves them from at the start.
Plumeria[]
Another Dökkálfar, known as the one who brings lewd dreams.
Niðavellir, The Realm of Dvergar (Dwarves)[]
King Fáfnir[]
The king of the Dvergar, the FEH universe's equivalent of dwarves, who live in the Steampunk / Magitek -inspired Niðavellir. Prince Ótr[]
The Prince of Nioavellir and the middle sibling among its Royals, blindly loyal to Fáfnir after he adopted him and Reginn.
Princess Reginn[]
The Princess of Nioavellir, plus the youngest of the Royals. She loves both Fáfnir and Ótr, but is troubled over Fáfnir's desire for warfare and joins the Order of Heroes after they defeat her twice in battle, hoping they'll help her turn Fáfnir back into the kind man he used to be.
Eitri[]
A legendary sage lady who lives in the forests of Niðavellir. Reginn believes that she might be able to find out what made Fáfnir change. She's actually the Arc Villain.
Jötunheimr, the Realm of the Titans / Giants[]
Princess Dágr[]
The youngest of the twin daughters of the Jötunheimr Queen, fight-happy and tomboyish. After being defeated by the cast, she joins them in their adventures.
Princess Nótt[]
The Crown Princess of Jötunheimr and older twin sister to Dágr. Ladylike and regal, but as battle-capable as Dágr.

Loki[]
The sneaky and beautiful strategist for Múspell. A talented healer and planner, who seems to have plans of her own not involving the Realms.
