Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

Cquote1
Death? What is Death? It is the natural state of all things. It is life that is the aberration. It is life that should be feared, for it can go by with our work left undone, it can be wasted away on failure and indolence. Death is to be embraced.
Daenyathos - "The Bullet and the Skull", Warhammer 40000

Cquote1
Death holds no fear only for the fool. An Astarte's duty is to control that fear and to turn it into a blind hatred of the end of his life, for it brings with it failure of purpose and inability to fulfil his duty to the universe.
Daenytathos - "Catechisms Martial", Warhammer 40000

Loa: You risk your life, human, calling on the loa. Perhaps what you really seek is death. The pain in your heart begs for it.

Wesley: Then do it and be done. Nothing else will stop me.
Loyalty, Angel

This would be a good death... But not good enough.

Cquote1

Nor law, nor duty bade me fight,

Nor public man, nor cheering crowds,

A lonely impulse of delight

Drove to this tumult in the clouds;

I balanced all, brought all to mind,

The years to come seemed waste of breath,

A waste of breath the years behind

In balance with this life, this death.
William Butler Yeats: An Irish Airman Foresees his Death

"The healthy human mind doesn't wake up in the morning thinking this is its last day on earth. But I think that's a luxury, not a curse. To know you're close to the end is a kind of freedom. Good time to take... inventory. Out-gunned. Outnumbered. Out of our minds. On a suicide mission. But the sand and rocks here stained with thousands of years of warfare... they will remember us. For this. Because out of all our vast array of nightmares, this is the one we choose for ourselves. We go forward like a breath exhaled from the earth. With vigor in our hearts and one goal in sight: We. Will. Kill him."

Hank Henshaw / Cyborg-Superman: Over the years, I have been detonated, burned and disintegrated, yet I continue to survive. The cosmic accident that cursed me with immortality murdered my friends and drove my wife mad. She was able to end her own life. I am not, Anti-Monitor.

Anti-Monitor: When you have done what we have asked of you, I will not fail where Superman and Green Lantern have. I will kill you, Hank Henshaw.

Henshaw: (a tear in his one human eye) Thank you.

Craig Boone: "Because I'm still alive."
