Simply put, a character's protruding teeth are played for unconventional cuteness.

Most often, as suggested by the trope name, the character sports enlarged canine teeth. For maximum cuteness, at least one fang will be visible at all times, even when the character's mouth is closed, and especially if they have a Cat Smile. This seems to indicate, generally, a character who is mischievous, slightly hostile, or a trickster—without actually being a bad guy.

Cute Little Fangs are pretty much a standard feature of Catgirls and many other Little Bit Beastly people. Ugly Cute characters tend to have these as part of their unconventional brand of cuteness.

Usually limited to comedies. Does not normally apply to Western-style vampires (they do have fangs, but not the endearing kind).

May be related to traditional Japanese supernatural monsters such as oni, who are usually depicted with tusks or fangs meant to look rather comical instead of outright frightening. (This is explicitly the case in Urusei Yatsura, where a number of characters are Ancient Astronauts versions of oni and other supernatural creatures.)

This trope is also Truth in Television. Many baby animals, whether of the carnivorous persuasion or the simian persuasion sport Cute Little Fangs. In a stranger case, some Asian people inherit a physical trait known traditionally as "Tiger Teeth", a genetic quirk that results in elongated eye teeth. This is particularly common in Japan (due to a common genetic quirk), where they're known as "yaeba", and typically considered cute. It can also appear in some cases of over-crowding.

Viewers who are unable to appreciate the cuteness here may refer to this as a "snaggletooth".

• Rin has one being the son of Satan in Ao No Exorcist after his demonic power awakens.
• Komugi and Koyori in Nurse Witch Komugi.
• Ryoko in Tenchi Muyo. Indeed, it would seem that every non-human, non-Juraian has some kind of fangs, and usually at least slightly pointed ears.
• Lum, Jariten and others from Urusei Yatsura.
• Ryôga from Ranma ½. In fact, one reading of "Ryôga" is "Good Fang". These are apparently genetic, as seen when girl-Ranma convinced him she was his sister by wearing fake teeth with her flimsy disguise.
• The eponymous character from the manga and anime Inu Yasha sports these, since he's descended from a dog yokai.
• Merle from Vision of Escaflowne.
• The remarkably dangerous Puma sisters in Dominion Tank Police.
• Queen's Blade: Hide & Seek. Elina flashes hers on numerous occasions and is even said to be just like a cat.
• Leo from Beast Master.
• Excel from Excel Saga.
• Mahou Sensei Negima
  • Evangeline A.K. McDowell, given hints about the future plot of the story, may be a rare Western vampire who gets the Cute Little Fangs treatment.
  • Asuna has them as well, though they're only occasionally visible.
• Risky, the apprentice shinigami in Omishi Magical Theatre: Risky☆Safety.
• Cyberdolls Sara and Mami in Hand Maid May.
• Lime from Saber Marionette J and its sequels sometimes seems to have a Cute Little Fang, but it's hard to be sure—it's clearly a tooth, but it's far more rounded and blunt than the usual anime fang.

  • Kiba Inuzuka
  • Suigetsu is a borderline example. While he has one triangular shark-like tooth that sticks out of his mouth while it's closed, that's what all of his teeth look like.
  • Naruto himself has them to varying degrees in the first few stages of his Kyuubi transformation. Four-tailed and further take a different route.
• Haruhi Suzumiya
  • Tsuruya (that's her at the top of the page), whose Fan Nickname is LOL Fang-tan. In a noteworthy variation, the fang actually gives her a speech impediment. Which just makes her that much cuter.
  • At least one illustration in the light novels gives Haruhi one.
• Daikuji Ayu from Rumbling Hearts.
• Madarame from Genshiken and his successor in Spotted Flower, though "cute" might not be the word. The fangs emphasize his snake-like qualities.
• Fuu from Samurai Champloo gets these when particularly angry.
• Mara, the demoness from Ah! My Goddess, has these; in her case, they seem to emphasize that she's less dangerous than she looks—the series is primarily a romantic comedy, and so she would be out of place if she were a real danger. Plus they let her make a vampire joke in the TV series.
• Makoto of Kanon, an early clue to her fox origins.
• Mew Ichigo of Tokyo Mew Mew. Most of the characters have these—the aliens do, at least.
• Bleach
  • Hiyori Sarugaki of is often teased about her prominent little fang by fellow Vizard Shinji Hirako, and later by Ichigo, at which she promptly lampshades this by saying the fangs are one of her charms. She has a fang and buck teeth, and it makes her even funnier.
  • Haineko, the manifested spirit form of Rangiku Matsumoto's zanpakuto, has them.
• Hakufu and Chouhi from Ikki Tousen.
• Satoko Hojo from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. However, her fang is hardly noticeable in the first season, and even in later seasons it's often not seen. It's seen in many of her sound novel poses, both the remakes and originals.
• Umineko no Naku Koro ni has tiny fangs all over the place. Battler, Jessica, Maria and Beatrice (among others) have them.
• Slayers is fond of these in a couple places.
  • Non-humans in human guise generally have them (Xellos, Filia, and Valgaav), but perhaps the only real humorous application of them is Lina herself, where they range from the "cute little fang" variant to worryingly noticeable.
  • Gourry got them on occasion, in the third season (TRY) of the anime.
  • Thanks to Art Evolution, Lina's are seen almost all the time starting with Revolution. The cute type for the most part.
• Ayano in Kaze no Stigma.
• Mikoto from My-HiME... also a quasi-Catgirl.
• Kuroi-sensei and Misao from Lucky Star. Misao, like Tsuruya, also has a bit of a speech impediment.
• Delmo in Cosplay Complex possesses them, even though she is a bunny girl. Apparently rodent teeth are not as cute though.
• Sapphire in the Pokémon Special manga.
• Holo from Spice and Wolf, but hers are permanent and natural since she's a wolf spirit. In human form, anyway. In her natural form it's more a case of More Teeth Than the Osmond Family—as anyone who's seen the mouth of an even completely ordinary wolf can tell.
• Ouka, the female werewolf in .hack Legend of the Twilight.
• Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
  • Kiyal, one of Kittan's three sisters in , has a fang. She's the most feral of the three. And yet in the same episode she debuts in, her own brother goes on a rant about how humans don't have fangs, only Beastmen have fangs. Wha-huh?
  • Nia of all people has one of these in some official High School AU art. And it's ADORABLE. Look closely, and she also has them in this official Halloween art.
• Haruko from AIR has them, even though she is generally depicted as a nice person, albeit with some issues.
• Ranka Lee from Macross Frontier when she's singing. Understandable, being one-quarter Zentraedi.
• Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
  • Arf and Agito. The former is a wolf-girl, while the latter is a demon-girl.
  • Rio Wesley of ViVid also sports one, though she's just an ordinary, energetic Mid-childan.
• Ramia from the Pretty Sammy series.
• Liru and Pachira from Magical Pokaan, being a Werewolf and western-style vampire respectively.
• Haruko Haruhara in FLCL has these in the baseball episode (possibly others).
• Hazuki from Tsukuyomi Moon Phase.
• Pai from Sazan Eyes. Very cute.
• Train Heartnet, the eponymous Black Cat.
• Another male example comes in the form of the Medicine Peddler from Mononoke and Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales. They're more subtle than usual, so unless he's gritting his teeth or yelling (not something he does a lot) you barely see them. But they're there.
• Anzai Nobuyuki seems to stick these (or rather a single fang projecting over the bottom lip) on his main characters, especially when they're drawn in a more humorous fashion. It's really noticable on Ginta in MAR. There is no logical reason given for why they have them.
• Tomomi Shirakawa of the hentai title Princess 69 has this. It's most prevailent when she smiles mischieviously and the "camera" is shown close to her face...
• Fairy Tail
  • Due to Dragon Slayer magic, Natsu and Gajeel have fangs, though not really cute. Luxus' fangs are even less cute.
  • Wendy, on the other hand...
• Sugar Sugar Rune: The main characters, Chocola and Vanilla, are witches who have these.
• Daisuke "Beast" Inuki from the Yaoi manga My Beast has very pronounced fangs on his lower jaw. These usually make him look more intimidating, but in a few scenes they look very cute.
• Seras in the Hellsing manga and OVA, at least whilst she's not going psycho. And when she is...
• Umisho's Maaya is almost an Expy of Mayu from Ai Yori Aoshi, but she also borrows Tina's fang (and swimming skill).
• Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugi. You can see his fangs just about every time he opens his mouth.
• Moka and Kokoa from Rosario + Vampire sport Cute Little Fangs, being vampires. In Moka's case though, it's only Outer Moka who has proper Cute Little Fangs—the more mature-looking Inner Moka has longer, more menacing looking fangs.
• Karin, who provided the former trope image. Justified as she is a vampire.
• Both Giroro and Tamama of Keroro Gunsou have these, but Tamama's are really only shown when he's angry.
• Lala's sister, Nana, from To LOVE-Ru usually has one ridiculously cute fang showing which makes her even more ridiculously cute.
• Saki has Yuuki sporting one these, because she's the resident Genki Girl, and Kana sporting another one of these, because she has that entire Catgirl schtick going on.
• Tamako, the main character of Battle Club, has one of these.
• Abel of Trinity Blood has them sometimes; not too much of a surprise given that he's an (uber powerful) vampire.
• Vash from Trigun shows two at times.
• Eri from School Rumble.
• Ray Kon from Beyblade. As well as the rest of the White Tigers team.
  • Also Kyoya.
• The eponymous Niea from Niea Under 7 has them, likely because she is an alien. Still, other aliens in the show seem to lack them.
• Elise from Sky Girls has these. She also wears short, sharp-looking bunny ears to complete the effect.
• Garlic Jr. in Dragonball Z. He may be a villain but it's still cute looking, the way one fang sticks out of his mouth when he smiles.
• In a Freeze-Frame Bonus moment, Nyamo from Azumanga Daioh has one when she's drunk in Episode 14.
• Jin from Yu Yu Hakusho, in his demonic form, he has the cutest little fang.
• Black Lagoon: Revy]] has one of these in some of the omake. Especially notable in Omake 2: Mahou Shoujo-hen, where she is very bright and cheery... until she pulls out those two pistols.

• Nori from Tokyo Tribe 2.
• Maria from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.
• Ichikawa in Sukisho has one of these in almost every scene for no adequately explained reason.
• Ritsuka in Loveless occasionally has these when he's yelling at someone. Slightly justified in that he's still got his cat ears and tail.
• Hachikuji from Bakemonogatari has these, and they see a lot of use, since her standard retaliation when she and Araragi end up fighting is to bite him with all her might.
• Yui of Angel Beats! has a pair of them, though only one is generally seen.
• Kirino from Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai! sports these; they become especially evident when playing eroge.
• Index from A Certain Magical Index exhibits these at times, usually when about to bite Touma.
• Scanty and Kneesocks from Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt, with a tad of Fangs Are Evil. It's lower incisors for Scanty and upper incisors for Kneesocks.
• Lampshaded in the Hentai manga Mozaiku x San Shimai, where a Tsundere girl's cute little fang interferes with... well, take a guess. Fortunately, no serious pain results.
• Kyouko in Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Kirika in Puella Magi Oriko Magica. Both play with this trope, Kyouko having two fangs instead of the normal single one, and Kirika most assuredly does not fit with the normal personality type the fang tends to signify. At all.
• Yayoi from Neko-de Gomen! when in her Catgirl form.
• Yune and Alice from Croisée in a Foreign Labyrinth.
• Romania from Axis Powers Hetalia, which has led to fan speculation about him possibly being a vampire or at least liking to pretend that he's one. Belgium has them in some sketches too, but they're not nearly as noticeable.
• In the High School of the Dead manga, Saya has a fang in just about every image, even when her mouth is closed—the artist seemed intent on displaying it at all times. In the anime it's visible only when her mouth is wide open.
• Hibiki from the anime version of The Idolmaster.
• Loki from Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok. Especially notable in the manga, where he takes them out at one point and uses them as homing devices.
• Kuro from Kodomo no Jikan sports some fangs to emphasize her feral nature.
• Seiji from Kids On the Slope, which matches up with his slightly mischievous personality.

Comic Books

• Nightcrawler has them in the comics, depending on the artist.
• Wolverine and Sabretooth have them in some adaptations and when drawn by some artists, though describing any aspect of those two characters as "cute" is a real good way to have one's lifespan drastically shortened.
• Many characters in comics drawn by Adam Warren.
• Lenore the Cute Little Dead Girl
• Illyana Rasputin in Darkchild mode has them.
• Charlene in Horndog.
• The (quite attractive) troll-girls in the XXXenophile story "A Beautiful Tale". Actually, in some panels, they appear to have full-on shark teeth... but the artist somehow makes it work.

Literature

• Lily in the web-novel Domina. Maybe a subversion, since its mentioned that people who don't know who well think they're freaky.
• The short story "Green Shadows" from Alan Burt Akers' Kregen series has the main character notice: "Her mouth was red, and a white tooth showed a tip just indenting her lower lip. Some folk find that no blemish but an added attraction in a pretty woman's face."

Live-Action TV

• This is a fleeting example, but in the Angel episode "Smile Time", when puppet-Angel switches to puppet-Vampire-Angel to deliver the battle-ending set of attacks, the puppet naturally has fangs. And the fangs are definitely cute and little, but not actually little relative to the cute little mouth.
• The Adipose creatures in the Doctor Who episode "Partners in Crime" have one of these. They're supposed to look like the lone milk tooth of an infant.
• Some of the Centauri have these in Babylon 5. All of them, or at least all the males are supposed to have these, but due to budgetal and time constraints, as well as some actors with aversion towards them, they are only present some of the time.
• Wimzie's little brother Bo on Wimzies House.
• Andrew Zimmern, host of the Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods has odd front teeth that give him this appearance when he smiles.
• Erica from My Babysitter's a Vampire and she uses them to her full advantage.

Newspaper Comics

• In On the Fastrack, Thrip has become a cyber vampire. Even for her, the fangs are tiny.

Tabletop Games

• Exalted: Fangs are one of the available Lunar Exalt "Tells", as demonstrated in this picture.

Video Games

• Neeshka in Neverwinter Nights 2 possesses these as part of her Catgirl appearance.
• Midna from The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess possesses a set of tiny fangs, one of which shows through her lips when her mouth is closed.
• Sora's Halloween Town costume in the Kingdom Hearts series.
• Most demons in the Disgaea games. Just to drive the point home, nearly all of their Team Attack portraits show them off.
• Ratchet and Clank: While the in-game model of Ratchet doesn't have noticeable fangs of any sort, he mysteriously gains them in the European advertisements. In the third game, his girlfriend Sasha does have them in-game.
• Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Rouge the Bat from the Sonic the Hedgehog games has little fangs, 'cause she's, ya know, a bat.
  • Sonic was meant to have one in his original Japanese designs but it was taken out pre-release when Sega of America got a hold of it. He has cute fangs, but they don't protrude.
  • Blaze the Cat has the same fangs too, but much smaller. They generally aren't visible unless she opens her mouth wide enough.
  • Most of the main cast do have fangs of some sort, but they normally don't protrude and sometimes aren't meant to be cute (Knuckles, Shadow). Oddly, Tails, a fox, has no sharp teeth at all.
• World of Warcraft
  • Female orcs and trolls always have small but visible tusks, and have the option of being rather pretty. Although draenei also have decidedly sharp teeth—and the females, at least, are attractive—said teeth aren't visible when a character has their mouth closed.
  • Night elves have fangs too, which is one of the reasons some followers of Warcraft lore think they're descended from the trolls (the fangs being residual tusks). Like with the draenei, though, you can't see them when their mouths are closed, which is most of the time. (Blood elves appear to have lost their fangs.)
  • Tauren, too, have sharp fangs that are only visible when they open their mouths. It may seem strange seeing as cows are herbivores, but the lore made it pretty clear that tauren aren't.
• Super Mario Bros
  • The Goombas. Though they were "evil" at first, there more recent appearances come off as cute and their tiny fangs only further push the point.
  • Played more straight with Goombaria and Goombella of the Paper Mario series, having only one small fang pointing out.
  • Bowser Jr. sports a single, tiny fang in the upper corner of his mouth. He has two fangs in Super Mario Galaxy, although, oddly, he goes back to having only one in every other game.
  • Boos are an inversion: they sport a set of comically large fangs.
• Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
  • Marta consistently has one in the left side of her mouth for some inexplicable reason. Marta's fang is called out by Ratatosk when Marta finishes a battle with her "Radiant Roar" Mystic Arte. Emil later calls it out after battles when Ratatosk is sealed away (again) temporarily, albeit more timidly.

Marta: Beautiful roses have thorns!  Ratatosk: Beauty, Marta, has a fang... Marta: Be a little more enthusiastic!

• • Evil sadist bitch Alice also sports a pair occasionally, but only when she's making a particularly evil face, so it may just be there for effect.
• The half-demon girl Lilica of Arcana Heart.
• The title character in Klonoa.
• The Touhou series:
  • Remilia Scarlet is usually depicted with these. Fitting, as she's a vampire. The "cute" aspect is often played up in fanworks, with her maid/servant Sakuya often found daydreaming of that fang and what it can do.
  • Remilia's younger sister and fellow vampire, Flandre, is occasionally shown with these as well (mostly in fan-works). Of course, given Flandre's psychosis and prospensity for destruction on a massive scale, sometimes the fangs are distinctly neither little nor cute.
  • On a lesser note, Rumia, whose fang is used to express her childishness (and tendency to be one of the few characters that is actually mentioned to eat humans).
• Jack Frost from the Shin Megami Tensei series (and by extension, all his other forms, such as Black Frost and Raiho.)
• Iris in Rune Factory: Frontier. Yes, she is (they are?) a vampire, but it's the next thing to an Informed Attribute.
• The Sniper from Team Fortress 2 has slightly exaggerated canines, and a good deal of fanart also portrays him as having them. Not visible when his mouth is closed, however.
• Agneah, one of the escaped summons in Summon Night: Twin Age, has tiny fangs.
• Mileena from Mortal Kombat has a whole mouthful of Cute Little Fangs. YMMV though.
• Pokémon
  • Several Pokémon, including Shinx and Oshawott.
  • A good deal of the first-evolution Pokémon, in fact. Some of them retain their fangs into their evolved forms, where they are less adorable, to say the least.

Visual Novels

• Ace Attorney: Furio Tigre and Shi-Long Lang, both characters who have strong ties to predator animals in their names and appearance, have pointed incisors.

Web Comics

• Luna from Dominic Deegan, despite being human, has fangs similar to an Orcs. They are quite adorable. And important later.
• El Goonish Shive
  • Grace, when in her half-squirrel form. Squirrels being rodents, this of course is foreshadowing that there's more to her.
  • A recently introduced character, Catalina Bobcat. Along with her name and first name, it makes her a quasi Catgirl.
• Wapsi Square
  • Tina, who claims her fangs are the result of botched dental surgery. This may or may not be true; Tina has an... unusual history.
  • The Drunken College Golems have them too.
• The green-skinned cleric Benn'Joon aka "Benny" in the webcomic Looking for Group. She often has one tusk-like Cute Little Fang peeking out from her lower jaw over her upper lip, especially when she's pouting.
• In Pandect, Ice, a Dog Ace (a dog who has a soul and can also appear in human form), has slightly longer canine teeth than most humans. Of course.
• Hanna Is Not a Boy's Name
  • Conrad, while not meant to be overwhelmingly "cute", sports a single tiny fang that's far from intimidating.
  • We present to you, Conbat.
• The Order of the Stick:
  • Therkla, the half-orc ninja, has cute little tusks.
  • As does, in one flashback panel, Therkla's orc mother, in a subversion of the stereotypical half-orc origin story.
  • Evil Vaarsuvius also has Cute Little Fangs, though because of the circumstances surrounding their appearance, they're actually quite creepy.
  • So does Redcloak (YMMV on "cute").
• Male example: Doug from Fletcher Apts who also has Puppy Dog Eyes at times.
• The title characters in Ozy and Millie, though only Ozy's are only obvious when he's talking) as well as several others. Somewhat lampshaded here.
• The art style of Queen of Wands has fangs as standard. On Angela they are pretty cute, though.
• Numerous Earthsong character have these.
• Molly in The Inexplicable Adventures of Bob manages to be very cute even with fangs on the end of her snout.
• Florence from Freefall, a genetically engineered Bowman's Wolf, has fangs, but they only show up when she smiles. The effect is usually unfortunate.
• Rufus and Melika in Terinu have fangs as well, being anthropomorphic fox aliens. Said fangs are usually just cute, at least until they get pissed off.
• Skadi, from the eponymous webcomic, sports one of these.
• Eerie Cuties has a few, given that it's about a monster school. Starting with vampire sisters, Nina and Layla Delacroix.
• Eve of Bibliography has these.
• The entire cast of Femmegasm.
• Fox Maharassa, playful rake from Boy Meets Boy, Friendly Hostility, and Other Peoples Business. They only appear when he grins, but they're infinitely charming to say the least. As a pastry chef in the latter comic exclaims with a dreamy sigh, "It's like he hugs you with his smile~"
• Homestuck
  • Most trolls have pointy teeth, but Nepeta is really the only one who manages to make them look utterly adorable.
  • Tavros, at one point, is shown curled up against the wall, sleeping, with his fangs protruding from his smile. Since Tavros is incredibly timid and the teeth of trolls in his social caste are supposed to be blunt (after this is established, the other lowbloods, especially Karkat, are drawn with rounded teeth), the only explanation is that it was to make him cuter.
• The Jagers of Girl Genius appear to have these... until they open their mouths.
• The unnamed assassin who kidnap Ivan in Oglaf.
• Happens occasionally in VG Cats, being as the main characters are, obviously, cats.
• Elf Blood's spirit incarna tend to have these if their spirits correspond to some sort of predatory animal. Notable examples include Carlita Delacroix (Cat) and Fliss and Shanna Whittle (Foxes).
• Yoon Song from Welcome to Room 305.
• Some of the characters in The Cyantian Chronicles, particularly Quinn, Sheana, and the fox princesses.

Web Original

• At the Super-Hero School Whateley Academy there are several: Paige (a were-catgirl), Carmilla (mostly demon), Tennyo (too complicated to explain here). Tennyo's been told several times that her fangs are 'cute'.
• Trope-tan has one.

Western Animation

• Green Puppy from Blue's Clues has fangs.
• Beast Boy of Teen Titans, to add to his unconventional cuteness and underline his animal status. Curiously, he tends to carry it over in all of his forms—even when they don't even have teeth. His comic book version initially lacked this, but eventually he was redesigned (though at least they had the decency to do so in-story) with fangs intact due to the show.
• Mouse from ReBoot. The fact that she has fangs is mentioned by other characters but never explained. In the end, they do indeed appear to be there solely to make her seem more dangerous.
• X-Men: Evolution gives the very dangerous Mystique fangs, as well as her less dangerous son Nightcrawler. In Nightcrawler's case this is true to the comics. In Mystique's... well, she can have whatever appearance she pleases.
• Both Chowder and Panini in Chowder have them. Word of God is they're of the same species (Rabbit-bear-cat thing...).
• Yumi in Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi.
• Arguably most of the Gargoyles, especially Lexington and Angela. And of course Elisa when she was briefly a gargoyle. Elisa's especially were very cute.
• Rintoo and Lulu from Ni Hao, Kai-Lan.
• Loopy in one episode got these in KaBlam!!.
• Several characters in Wakfu. Its heavily Animesque art style gives everyone exaggerated canines, even on non-cutesy characters such as older men.
• Humf. All the male furry things, including the title character.
• Anakonda from Xyber 9 New Dawn has these, unless she's pissed off and hissing at someone, then they're far more creepy than cute.
• Marceline from Adventure Time. She's a vampire, after all.

• Known as "yaeba", "double tooth", in Japan; where it is fairly common, and typically considered cute and attractive. Due to crowding resulting from small, narrow jawbones, one or more canine teeth are pushed forward of the rest of the teeth. Many believe it to be the origin of the "Catgirl" look. See the Yaeba Superstar page for more examples. As western-style dentistry becomes more popular, straightening teeth and removing yaeba is also becoming more common.
  • Some Japanese girls actually pay to have Yaeba artificially installed.
• Most famously, Avril Lavigne, which has led to humorous fan speculation that she may in fact be a vampire.
  • Unfortunately, they reportedly made her self-conscious, so she allegedly had them shaved, to the everlasting regret of fans of hers for whom her fangs were part of her appeal.
