• One Direction is full of this trope. A lot of fans think that Harry and Louis are romantically involved,due to the high level of Bromance between them. Although this pairing (known as Larry Stylinson by some fans) is the most popular, all of the band members have been shipped with each other at some point or another. This results in a whole range of different OT Ps that shippers support: Zayn/Niall, Zayn/Liam, Niall/Liam, Zayn/Harry, Harry/Niall, Liam/Louis, etc.
• McFly, Harry Judd claims to be Dougie Poynter's boyfriend on his twitter.
  • The band has even endorsed official names for the slash pairings used by the members: Pudd (Dougie Poynter/Harry Judd), Flones (Tom Fletcher/Danny Jones), Floynter (Fletcher/Poynter), Fludd (Fletcher/Judd), Pones (Poynter/Jones), and Junes (Judd/Jones).
• The Presets get a bit, most obviously with the Video for the appropriately named This Boy's In Love.
  • Also the lyrics to the song If I Know You
• Norweigan death punk band Turbonegro is a deliberate invoking of the Hard Gay angle of this turned Up to Eleven, and then some
• Russian singing duo t.A.T.u were presented as Schoolgirl Lesbians to appeal to a certain demographic and sang songs dripping with Les Yay. Naturally, it was only a publicity gimmick.
• If we're going for bands that have, uh, gayed it up to sell albums, this list could get very long indeed. Blixa Bargeld and Nick Cave have kissed on stage. Don't read too much into it. (Or if you're that kind of fan, go for it. I demand to see the fanfiction you produce.)
• Quite a few fans ship John Frusciante and Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers together, based on evidence from the "Knock me down" and the "Taste the Pain" videos, both times where Anthony kisses John, who reciprocates, going so far as to try to French kiss Anthony during the "Taste the Pain" video. Also, in the "Warped" video, Anthony and ex-guitarist Dave Navarro kissed (with a lot of tongue). The band as a whole can be very affectionate with each other: a lot of hugging, sometimes even kissing onstage (mostly involving Flea and Anthony).
• Just about the whole current batch of "emo" bands like to play up the stagegay, either as a statement or as Fan Service. Judging by the screeching fangirls, it's appreciated.
• Despite heavy metal still having a fairly homophobic fanbase (unlike emo bands), it is clear that for a number of musicians in the genre it is not so:
  • Metallica's drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist Kirk Hammett, for example, like to kiss. Quite a bit.
  • Rammstein. Everything about Rammstein, who make it Rated "M" for Manly. The band's Till Lindemann is known for doing filthy, filthy things to keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lorenz, ones involving a huge dildo that shoots liquor during the performance of a song with the general meaning of "bend over". They were even arrested for it!
  • Mann Gegen Mann, which doesn't have much in the way of direct band-member Ho Yay, but it couldn't get any gayer if you dropped it in a vat of pixie dust and Astroglide. Which definitely proves that these dudes aren't too bothered by the notion of, well, rubbing it up against other manly, sweaty dudes.
  • The bandmembers of Children of Bodom are very affectionate with each other. Especially singer/guitarist Alexi Laiho and genius keyboardist Janne Wirmen, who go on record by saying their constant snuggling and kissing on stage during solos is because they "get so intense by the medium of heavy metal..." It is not clear why they also often make out offstage. Alexi claims it's a "musical/personal relationship kind of deal."
  • The shows of power metal daddies Helloween have seen, for the last few years, singer Andi Deris grabbing bassist Markus Grosskopf (who Andi also introduces as "the man with the loveliest curls of Germany") and kissing him. With a lot of tongue. The whole Ho Yay of the band gets cranked to eleven when Gamma Ray ("sister" band whose members also gleefully indulge in kissing, hugging, and shameless flirting) gets added to the mix. During the recent Hellish Rock tour, where the two bands toured together and even played two songs together at the end, this troper has seen several Ho Yay moments, up to and including faces being showed into crotches, butt-pinching, and tongue wrestling.
  • Off course, Rob Halford from Judas Priest is beyond the Ho Yay stage, since he came out. "Hell Bent For Leather", "Turbo Lover", "Eat You Alive"? How did people not see this coming? It is hilarious how many homophobic metalheads are unknowingly dressing up as leathermen. Thank you Mr. Halford, thank you.
• Iron Maiden without a doubt. There's plenty of pictures where they're shirtless together, not to mention a photo of them in a bath, all naked (seen on the Early Days documentary). Then of course, Dave and 'Arry's Heterosexual Life Partners relationship, Bruce and Arry together in pictures, etc. They seem to all be aware of it though and make plenty of jokes about it.
  • Bruce's example of meeting 'Arry for the first time since the Raising Hell show:

I think we were both a bit nervous. But as soon as we walked in the room, we gave each other a big hug and it evaporated. Literally, like, boof! Gone. And we both just chatted away ... And then, of course, we all ended up going down the pub. One thing led to another and we all woke up with thick heads the next day!

• Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore were close friends, but then they started hating each other and Blackmore drove Gillan out of the band.
  • In response to a question about whether he spoke to Blackmore, Gillan said, "No, I don’t talk to him at all. That asshole—I will never speak to him again, as far as I’m concerned. I loved Ritchie, though. I used to be his roommate and everything was fine. We all respect Ritchie for what he did--the foundation. But he turned into a weird guy and the day he walked out of the tour was the day the clouds disappeared and the day the sunshine came out and we haven’t looked back since. And there are certain personal issues that I have with Ritchie, which means that I will never speak to him again. Nothing I’m going to discuss publicly, but deeply personal stuff. As far as I’m concerned, the divorce came a long time ago. I never want to see or hear of him again."
• Gackt. Though, to be fair, you could quite easily extend that out to a fair number of other J-Rockers. He also seems to have a particular thing about molesting guitarists, to the point where he's had most, if not all, of the ones he's worked with. Even Mana.
  • Gackt has also infamously declared that if his Moon Child co-star Hyde was a woman, he could easily fall in love with him. He has also stated that if his bandmate and best friend You was a woman, he would marry You on the spot for his cooking skills alone. He also refers to You as his "soul mate" and has been known to shamelessly flirt with him on TV, to the point that You once told him off for giving their fans the wrong idea about their relationship. This hasn't stopped Gackt from his shameless flirting though.
• During one live performance of Tokio Hotel's Reden (arguably the band's most sexual song, though that isn't saying much) the singer approaches the bassist, gets checked out, then flashes a thumbs-up to the audience on the line describing the sign on the hotel room door, 'Don't Disturb'.
• Foo Fighters videos, i.e. "Everlong". Dave Grohl was also in Nirvana, with Kurt "if not for Courtney, I would have a bisexual lifestyle" Cobain.
  • Krist Novoselić, Dave Grohl, and Kurt Cobain all kissing at the end of their first Saturday Night Live appearance, which subsequently got edited off all re-airings. Grohl and Cobain were particularly adamant that the homophobia of the rock scene at the time disgusted them and their kissing onstage was effectively to keep said homophobes from attending their concerts.
  • Kurt and Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam fame. Kurt didn't like the other band members but confirmed that he and Eddie slow danced underneath the stage during the 1992 MTV Music Awards.
  • There are also fans who ship Dave Grohl with Taylor Hawkins.
• Pick a Johnny's Jimusho boyband. Any one. They roll around all over each other in music videos, they feed each other, they dance on rainbows, they dress up as gay cowboys in spandex, kiss each other, cross dress in skimpy skirts for each-others birthdays, sleep together, go on vacations together where no one can see what they do, are intimately familiar with the size of each-others juniors...
• Crowded House's video for "Something So Strong" is quite suggestive of this. The fact that they look like they're serenading each other and the almost-kisses are prime factors. Just take a gander.
• In the Frank Zappa-penned "I'm A Band Leader" (from Lost Episodes) Don Van Vliet intones:

"We have a new routine. Been working on it for three weeks or more. I pretend I'm a queer and the sax player pretends he's a queer, too, and later on in the show, (this'll kill ya) we kiss each other so that it looks to the audience like we kiss each other on the mouth. (heh). when we go... into a fast number, God, the people love it! Wait... till... we... get to Las Vegas!"

• If not only for the fact that the song makes his voice unrecognizable, there seems to be some Ho Yay in the song "Sexy Back" between Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. When the song first came out it had been a while since this Troper had heard anything from Justin, so the voice sounded vaguely female, but mostly electronic. Well, he "was" in *NSYNC.
• Speaking of *NSYNC there's a reason the boys were referred to in fandom as puppies, the constant touching and open adoration they had/have for each other, especially Justin and JC, is visible. Or JC and everyone really, both within *NSYNC and outside of it. The boy apparently is the LBD of of the music world.
  • The fact that another one of the group, Lance, actually came out makes it even worse...
• Many of East Asia's idol groups excel at using Ho Yay (or Les Yay) to grab their fans' attention, but the Korean band Super Junior just may take the cake.
• The relationship between Carl Barat and Pete Doherty of Brit Indie band The Libertines raised a few eyebrows. The duo would frequently share the microphone during their shows and occasionally would leave some rather romantic messages for each other on their bands website. This left quite a few confused fan girls... and some who had more unambiguously positive reactions.
  • They had and really still have the most obsessive and volatile relationship this troper has ever seen in a band. I mean, they got in a fight once and Carl proceeded to smash his own face in on a sink. That's got to say something.
  • Oh, and this. Just this.

By the conclusion of our conversations, during which love and loss are mentioned as often as Doherty’s name, it’s quite clear he has done precisely that.

• • "Can't Stand Me Now" was written after Pete was released from jail, where he was for breaking into Carl's apartment when he was forbidden from playing with the band untill he got cleaned up. They sing to each other on the song, wich starts with Carl saying "An ending fitting for the start / You twist and tore our love apart" and has a chorus in which both sing "I know you lie/All you do is make me cry/I'm still in love with you" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZrWuw3ZAXI
• A large part of Girls Aloud's fandom enjoy reading into the deeply close friendship between the five girls, but the deeply close friendship between Cheryl Cole and Kimberley Walsh is the most popular, being dubbed "Chim."
  • Kimberley and Cheryl have admitted to finding YouTube fanvids of them amusing, but both women are remain largely unaware of the Les Yay subtext that the fans were getting at.
• It is common knowledge among Within Temptation fans that the relationship between lead singer Sharon den Adel and scary-as-hell guitarist Robert Westerholt predates the band itself. So while watching the DVD of their Black Symphony performance, this troper was surprised by the Les Yay between Sharon and guest singer Anneke van Giersbergen during the song "Somewhere", which includes the lyrics: "I want to embrace you, and never let you go."
  • Hell, the entire thing is basically a love song sung by a girl to another girl. That's not even subtext anymore.
  • And Robert was on stage at the time! He needs to modify his "stay away from my girl" aura to work on other girls.
    • That's assuming he wants to.
• "Over And Over" makes more sense if you view it as a love story between Nelly and Tim McGraw.
• Morrissey and Johnny Marr, to the point that some people have speculated that Morrissey was in love with Johnny. And let's not get started on all of the homoerotic lyrics.
  • Let's just say a non-homoerotic song list would be far shorter.
  • Morrissey has said the only post-Smiths song that was specifically written for Marr is 'Angel, Angel, Down We Go Together.' "I love you more than life"...repeat to end.
  • They also have some quite touchy feely photos.
  • Marr must have had tremendous patience: and a keen sense of how much to feed his songwriting partner's ultimately-doomed (aren't they always?) infatuations, without getting in too deep. He was sensible enough to realize: without a charismatic frontman, he'd have been nowhere. Despite his formidable chops.
• Portishead's "Glory Box" has a music video with double Ho Yay. There's loads of sexual and romantic tension between the guys, but they're all played by women.
• Franz Ferdinand read slash about themselves, and once gave a public shout-out to the livejournal slash community slacken_ties during a gig. "Slackening ties for the girls at slacken_ties!"
  • Their song "Michael" is loaded with so much Ho Yay, it's not even subtext anymore. To quote: "Michael you're the only boy I'll ever want..."
  • Another lyric says, "This is what I am; I am a man." It takes place between a man and a boy -- explicitly text.
  • And when in concert, the band has the habit of changing the line "So come and dance with me" to the more risque, "So come all over me..."
  • Also, "Do You Want To". "Your famous friend, well, I blew him before you..."
  • When Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy met, Nick had stolen Alex's drink. The fight they got into quickly turned into a snog. Suspiciously, the Wikipedia article no longer says that. (However a cached page does)
• Stone Temple Pilots are dripping with it. Whether it be singer Scott Weiland's apparent lack of regard for personal space, or his strange dancing and poses with the other band members while performing. And of course, there's one part of the video for Interstate Love Song where Scott is sitting on bassist Robert De Leo's lap and kisses him. There's also the fact that Scott and Robert lived together for several years.
  • Don't forget Scott's obsession/fascination with Bowie. This troper strongly suspects Scott intentionally throws the subtext into his videos as a send-up to the Ho Yay master.
• A few of Alice in Chains' duet songs have lines with a strong Ho Yay vibe. Especially when you consider that Jerry has stated that several of them are about his relationship with Layne.
  • This troper originally thought "No Excuses" was a love song. Only when he learned the real life context involving Layne's life at the time did it make sense (though it is still suspicious).
  • You think that was bad? Wait 'til you see Layne with his pre-AIC band, Sleze. They pushed the Ho Yay meter up to 11 with the band's image built around extreme drag (think Peter Burns meets CC Deville) and Faux Yay galore.
  • And in their hair band days, they had this little number.
  • Let's face it. Alice in Chains is a city-leveling explosion of Ho Yay, as shown by pictures like this, this, and of course, this.
• This troper saw Maroon 5 because they opened for the Rolling Stones. She never liked them much until she saw the way the singer proceeded to grind against and make out with the bass player. Since them, she likes them much better.
  • Woah... Video/Pics avaible?
• Considering Freddie never came out during his lifetime (and for good reason, given his birth country has shut down tributes to him for that very reason) and the rest were allegedly straight, Queen was just dripping with Ho Yay.
  • "Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy," "I Want to Break Free," "My Fairy King" - 'Nuff said.
  • "Bicycle Race" - The lyrics look standard enough on paper, but, well, listen for yourself. (Or you can do a Youtube search for free, but this troper would never advocate such illegal activity.)
  • "Tie Your Mother Down" - Fairly standard Intercourse with You, but the gender is never specified, and the Led Zeppelin Shout-Out "give me every inch of your love" tips the scales a bit.
    • Could "Get Down Make Love" paint a more vivid picture? "I suck your mind/You blow my head"?
  • "Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to...a Real Motherfucker of a Gentleman)" - Actually addressed to their former manager, but written to sound like a breakup song.
  • "Don't Stop Me Now" - Called their "only openly homosexual song," the chorus contains the line "I want to make a supersonic man/woman out of you!"
    • ...maybe...
  • During the Wembley show, Freddie jokingly referred to them as "four aging queens."
  • And they're, well, named Queen.
  • If I might add - the naked photo shoot. Where they're, um, huddled up against each other.

  • Plus there's the fact that they all dressed up in drag for I Want To Break Free. Which holds even more ho yay seeing as during the recording for the video, their manager (I think it was their manager) turns to Roger and says "You look so good I could fuck you.
    • Official word was that it was just for the Coronation Street parody.
    • To be fair, Roger did look like a gorgeous, fuckable girl in that video.
• Faith No More lead singer Mike Patton has made many a lewd comment during songs, such as "...so cum in my ass you dirty cocksucker" at 2:47 here (the female audience members seem particularly pleased). Also, Patton asked band member Roddy Bottum (who came out as gay in 1993) to write a song for the band, the result of which being "Be Aggressive", a song pretty blatantly about oral sex between two men. Bottum expected Patton to be embarrassed by this fact, but Patton thought it was hilarious and the song was the second-most played during live performances.
• Granted, I am a Yuri Fanboy, but surely I'm not the only one who sees adorable Les Yay dripping from the video for Sarah Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson's duet "Winter Song."
  • That video is the exact thing that made this troper realize she was bi. Seriously the exact thing.
• The Used practically own this trope - once you get past the stagegay, there's also some highly homoerotic statements made in interviews and the bit where they have written multiple songs about gay sex.
  • Let's not even get into that whole thing between Bert and Gerard Way...
• What about Gerard Way and Frank Iero? They kiss on stage and in music videos, there have been multiple times when Frank has sat on Gerard's lap in interviews. Oh, and the small fact that Frank has licked Gerard through his jeans and that Gerard has grinded on Frank before. Yeah.

• There are many people who would claim that John Lennon and Paul McCartney loved each other... really...
  • In the early days when Paul and George were the unmarried members of the group, they used to answer the incessant "When are you getting married?" questions by saying they'd marry each other.
  • And their 1965 interview with Playboy takes some pretty interesting detours...

JOHN: Groups like this are normally not friends, you know. They're just four people out there thrown together to make an act. There may be two of them who sort of go off and are friends, you know, but.. GEORGE: Just what do you mean by that? JOHN: Strictly platonic, of course. But we're all rather good friends, as it happens.

• • Yoko "I was the only important person in John's life" Ono even said that she thought John had been in love with Paul at some point. Also according to her, the people who worked at Apple Studios referred to Paul as "Lennon's Princess." Their body language in pictures can suggest something between them, too. And face it, the break up of the Beatles largely seemed to be due to a huge love square between Yoko, John, Paul and Linda.
  • Not to mention that John was probably bisexual anyway. He had a brief affair with their manager, Brian Epstein, who was gay and partly hired the Beatles because he was so enamored with John. They took a trip to Spain together, were John apparently gave him a hand-job.
  • And then there's John's NSFW short story that's almost definitely slashy and maybe about Paul...
  • This entry from Yoko's audio diary, recorded during a very early stage of the White Album sessions (or as Paul called it, "the tension album") and somehow bootlegged years later, provides this absolute gem:

"I feel like [Paul]'s my younger brother or something like that. I'm sure that if he had been a woman or something, he would have been a great threat, because there's something definitely very strong with me, John, and Paul. And... and probably among those three people of George and Ringo and Paul. Paul is the one I feel the vibration, sort of sense it. • • An interviewer asked George if "Something" was inspired by Pattie Boyd. George responded "No, I was really more thinking of Ray Charles." Clearly meaning he was attempting to write a song in Charles' style, but the interviewer promptly cracked that Ray Charles wasn't quite as good looking as Pattie.
• The Who. Just...watch The Kids Are Alright. Keith Moon was all over his bandmates, constantly. Not to mention Pete Townshend's famous "I feel like a woman" interview. In more recent years, Pete and Roger Daltrey have frequently stated that they love each other, even though they can't get along half the time. In 2006, Roger even said to Q Magazine that if he and Pete ever started liking each other, it would be a disaster because "he'd want to fuck me and I'd want to fuck him and it would be boring."
• This troper would like to formally present Messrs. Bono and the Edge of U2, particularly at this performance of "Until the End of the World" (a song sung in the persona of Judas to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, for extra Special Hell factor) at Slane Castle in Ireland. 2:31 is the actual kiss, but the entire end is Bono beckoning Edge to come to him and holding him by his neck while he moans orgasmically in his ear, then has a guitar vs. devil horns battle with him. You're all welcome.
  • They did the same sort of thing in the webcast Rose Bowl concert. It seems more like a representation of the Ho Yay in the song itself, rather than between them (can anyone find a non "Until The End of the World" example?).
  • And then we have this quote:

I close my eyes and when I look up I see Adam Clayton standing in front of me, holding his bass as only Adam Clayton can hold his bass. There are people in this room who'd tell you they'd take a bullet for you, but Adam Clayton would have taken a bullet for me.

• • Well, the above quote was actually a story about how Adam was shielding Bono from a potential shooter after an actual, credible death threat. However Bono rather notoriously and frequently gets up close and personal with both The Edge and Adam Clayton. This troper has seen pictures, videos and live performances where Bono has kissed The Edge or Adam, gotten on his knees to grab their thighs, etc. Also regarding "Until The End of The World," Bono has said it was inspired by the homoerotic elements he perceived in the story of Judas and Jesus.
• Although Led Zeppelin was ragingly hetero for the most part, there's a call-and-response sequence in "You Shook Me" where Robert Plant sings a melodic line, and Jimmy Page imitates him on guitar. On the live BBC version Plant goes into some blatantly orgasmic moaning and Page follows right along. Sure the song was directed at a woman, but all I heard was two guys making each other moan in public.
  • However, during a concert in Landover, MD in 1977, Plant introduced a song by saying:

"If you've ever had an affair with a member of the opposite sex, or even a member of the same sex; if this affair seemed very casual to you at one time, and then you walked away, and as the years go by, it was a lot more than it seemed. then you've felt... you've felt a feeling of lost love. and this is a song about that, it's called 'Ten Years Gone'"

• • Cameron Crowe said when he hung out with Zep as a teen reporter for Rolling Stone magazine, instead of going to regular clubs after shows, the band would go to gay clubs where they wouldn't be bothered by fans.
  • In fact, Plant/Page was a very popular slash parring back in the day.
• You know, maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't be too terribly surprised if I found out that Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett and Roger Waters were in love in the 60's prior to the former's nervous breakdown. It sounds like some dumb crackpot theory at first, but if you take into consideration how deeply Roger was affected by Syd's insanity, how many songs he wrote lamenting what had happened to him (when none of the other of the band's members did, to best my knowledge - or if they did, it was never to the degree that Roger did), his reaction at coincidentally meeting Syd seven years after he (Syd, that is) left the band (Syd was almost unidentifiable because he had gained a lot of weight and shaved off all his hair - including his eyebrows - but when Roger realized it was him, he literally broke down in tears), and that, according to people who knew them then, Syd was the only person who Roger admired at all...it makes sense. Or at least, it makes sense to me. And after the idea's been in your head for a significant amount of time, it will. to you, too.
• Emilie Autumn and her Bloody Crumpets provide their adoring muffins with a storm of Les Yay, including but not limited to: onstage girls kissing girls, girls spanking girls, girls dancing with girls, girls tying one another up with ribbons, girls straddling girls like ponies, girls proposing to girls, girls undressing one another, girls swooning into one another arms. Not to mention the Rat Game...
  • Does that count as Ho Yay? I mean it's hard to even call it subtext given that Emilie has made it wonderfully clear which side of the "Menu of Love" she orders from. This Troper's dream is to be a Bloody Crumpet :) * Swoon*
  • I started trying to transcribe this clip, and quickly realised there was no way to adequately convey all the Les Yay, the Fetish Fuel and the Crowning Moment of Funny. Therefore I present Veronica's Confession.
• Obligatory reference for Tegan and Sara, the world's only Canadian lesbian identical-twin band.
• X Japan. It is quite arguable that Everyone Is Bi applies, whether it's just their being the Ur Example of Visual Kei Fan Service (having themselves invented Visual Kei), or that one or more members were/are bisexual for real. Yoshiki/hide, Yoshiki/Toshi, Taiji/Yoshiki, Taiji/hide, Taiji/Pata, Pata/hide, Pata/Heath, and hide/Heath are all arguable to various degrees. If you're writing Fanfic, you might even find yourself doing a Love Dodecahedron or an orgy. And of course they all like girls too.
  • In regard to Yoshiki Hayashi.... On the one hand.... he dates female models, artists, writers, groupies, actresses, and socialites, and can be linked to pretty much any woman in Hollywood if you want to go "six degrees of Yoshiki." He's also claimed to be straight on some occasions, but has hinted to interest in men at least twice in public. His interactions with hide, ToshI, his Foe Yay with Taiji, and rumors regarding other people.... on the other hand...
  • And now that Sugizo has joined the band, there's even more slash potential: he's been married and is involved with women, but he's also an open bisexual and open about his being a sadist. This has made Sugizo/Yoshiki begin to show up, since Yoshiki often hints at being a masochist.
• The UK band Architects has a running joke between the fans and each other about the rest of the band, but particularly the Searle twins (guitar and drums), picking on bassist Ali Dean. This has several times taken a somewhat homoerotic undertone, especially when it involves the Searle twins; entire interviews will be spent by them discussing their fascination with him, and references to the length of his bass guitar neck aren't uncommon.
• If they weren't married, the way Bret and Jemaine of Flight of the Conchords look at each other during this concert would be very questionable.
• Britpop band Suede (aka The London Suede) were devoted to this trope, both on stage (especially when Brett Anderson slapped his arse with the microphone) and in their lyrics.
• Plenty of T. Rex. "Twentieth Century Boy" is the most blatant (and most famous) by far, but...
  • "Raw Ramp," where a misogynistic tirade is followed by an admonition to his fellow men, ending in "embrace your brother, dance in the mud like a Palomino stud, come on; hold my hand."
  • "Telegram Sam," an ode to the male members of his entourage, in almost every line. Especially coupled with "Main Man."
  • "Rock On": "Teddy's going steady, he's a silver-plated poet, loves everyone - eeeeeveryone, eeeeeeeveryyyyyooone."
  • "Rabbit Fighter": "Shady politician in my bed, tying bolts of lightning to his head..."
  • "Main Man" is a crooning love song to a clearly male figure, complete with falsetto backup singer.
  • This Troper remembers being obsessed with Marc/Mickey slash in her fangirl phase. "Do you know Mickey and I are married?"- seriously, that was a real onstage quote. She is very surprised she hasn't seen much Marc/Mickey on the internet. Oh, and "The Groover" is an obvious homage to anal.
• Gorillaz: 2D seemed, at least in Phases 1 and 2, to have a weird masochistic thing going with Murdoc, if you read between the lines of their Vitriolic Best Buds relationship.

Murdoc: "I saved your life, you owe me your soul." 2D: "Awww, I love you, Murdoc!"

• • 2D had a lovebite on the Demon Days cover, and some of the fans have pointed to the weird alignment of the teethmarks as a sign that Murdoc could have done it. On the forum, 2D once claimed that he'd been watching Murdoc sleep and "you're quite ... beautiful ... when you're quiet." Murdoc pointedly didn't respond. It could also be argued that Murdoc's habit of stealing or scaring away 2D's girlfriends is a sign of possessiveness towards him (on top of simply being a Jerkass). More recently, Murdoc did drunkenly claim that he found Ronnie Corbett attractive, though he was so drunk at the time that he could have been making it up.
  • Might be a minor thing, but during an iTunes session interview, Murdoc says the following about 2-D: (2:46 - 2:54)

"When he stood up, wooow. What an image. Tall, pretty, blue spiky hair..."

• • While speaking of Gorillaz... It's incredibly hard to see these photos of Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn and not think Ho Yay. Not for you? Then we have this and this. It doesn't help that they're not even Faces Of The Band, and have conversations like those:

Albarn: Just relax. Learn how to relax. Hewlett: I'm relaxed. Except when I'm with you. Albarn: (laugh) Hewlett: When I'm not with you, people think I'm on valium, I'm so relaxed!

• • • More Damon and Jamie Ho Yay.
    • Even more. Also, a picture of them in bed together, but not in that way.
    • There's even more of this between Graham Coxon and Damon.
    • Damon has seemed to be rather enamored with Snoop Dogg as well, hugging him in an extremely enthusiastic manner in almost every picture of them together.
• Coldplay's Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland (pictured atop this page) fit this trope to a T. They've kissed many times. Many, many times.
• Eminem Fifty Cent and Dr. Dre, are surprisingly touchy whenever you see them together, Eminem said that he loves Dr. Dre, and that he would do anything for either of them, Eminem is Fifty's "favorite white boy" and Eminem rapped about how close he is to Fifty while hugging him. Not to mention D12+Eminem, G Unit+Fifty Cent, N.W.A.+Dr. Dre.
  • I Need A Doctor is basically a beautiful five-minute tribute to Eminem and Dre's deep bond.
  • Speaking of Dr. Dre, many fans think that The Game(the rapper, not the Unwinnable Game} is gay for Dr. Dre, based on how many times Dre is mentioned in Game's lyrics.
• Erasure. Andy is strictly gay(and HIV +), Vince is (mostly) straight(or maybe bi).
• They Might Be Giants has John Linnell and John Flansburgh, through the very fact that they've been with each other for the last 30 years and have the sort of intimate friendship that can only blossom out of being one another's only consistent companion for as long; some aspects are bound to come off as at least a little Ho Yay, and it was only a matter of time before Rule 34 would take over (as they say, it exists, and I'm gonna leave it at that). They obviously don't put a lot of effort into playing it up, both being in their 50s now and married to women... but if The Movie is to be believed, apparently John Flansburgh wears purple nail polish, shaves his arm and, if his raven locks suggest anything, dyes his hair. John Linnell on the other hand, especially in the earlier years of the band and with his flowing luscious locks, comes across as painfully ukeish. Hardly any interview goes by without at least a little playful bickering, sharing of in-jokes and just plain affection.

Linnell: Hey, John. Flansburgh: Yes? Linnell: Rawk'n rawwwll! Flansburgh: * Is flustered and cute*

• Gabe Saporta, the lead singer of Cobra Starship, has brought stagegay Serial Escalation. From grinding on the bassist of My Chemical Romance to making out with Pete Wentz on multiple occasions, Gabe never gives up an opportunity for gay. However, the pinnacle was when he ate a piece of chocolate out of the navel of William Beckett, lead singer of The Academy Is.... No wonder the fandom has given him Memetic Molestor status.
• Cinema Bizarre was super into this trope. The band members would very frequently make out during concerts, then deny it later. The fact that they were all at least bisexual only served to confuse matters further.
• Adam Lambert and his bass player Tommy Joe Ratliff have this trope in spades. During shows Adam will often lick, kiss and make out with Tommy, and Tommy will cuddle up to him. Though if anyone asks in interviews, "Tommy is straight."
• Fangirls have paired up Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and called it "Bennona." It's unlikely, seeing as both men are married, but the two have implied things for laughs such as in this conversation

Chester: We're so boy bandish, aren't we? I think it's because of my strikingly good looks Mike: I think it's because of your strikingly bad looks Chester: I totally disagree. I think I'm the most important person ever. Mike: I think Chester's full of himself and I think that's really hot Chester: Yeah sometimes at night you're full of me too

• Matt Bellamy and Dom Howard from Muse (aka Bell Dom to the shippers) are an extremely obvious example.

Interviewer: What would you do if you are the only man left on earth after the End of The World? Matt: I'd go looking for a woman...If I wouldn't find any, I think I'll be satisfied with Dominic.

Q Magazine: Dom, you’ve been hit by Matt’s flying guitars before. What measures do you take to protect yourself from his ‘theatrics’? Dom: My reflexes have become a lot quicker. I had stitches in my eye once after he cut it. And a tetanus injection… Matt: … In his bum! We came backstage and he was bent over a table, his bum hanging out. That was the main reason I did it. Any excuse to get Dom to bend over and pull his pants down.

• The members of Bon Jovi seem a little touchy feely in some of their videos... For example in You Gibe Love A Bad Name and Livin' On A Prayer they often have their arms around each other, lean really close to each other to sing into the same mic, smile at each other a lot and look at each other for a long time, and play each other's guitars.
• The fact that Steely Dan is named after a dildo in a William Burroughs novel implies one of their members read a William Burroughs novel featuring a dildo.
• Rush has Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee. Been friends since junior high, extremely affectionate and goofy around one another. There are pictures of Geddy attempting to kiss Alex on the cheek (and getting rejected, but still), of Geddy sitting on Alex's lap... yeeeah.
• Aerosmith's Joe Perry and Steven Tyler are absolutely dripping with this. There's a certain picture from a photoshoot sometime in the mid-80s that makes it look like they're about to kiss. It's awesome.

  • And in one interview, Joe Perry mentioned how his pants got tighter when he was onstage with the band.
  • At one point in his autobiography, Steven writes that he was jealous of Elyssa, Joe's first wife, for "stealing my boyfriend."
• Japan's David Sylvian was bisexual and dressed in drag in the early days of the band, something which he wishes never happened. He does have a pretty Ho Yay friendship with Ryuichi Sakamoto.
• Marilyn Manson and most of his bandmates, but especially longtime pal and bassist Twiggy Ramirez. Footage from the band's early days shows the two doing some... decidedly pornographic things to one another. They are very kissy and huggy and have been photographed walking around holding hands.
• The early incarnations of Industrial Metal Supergroup Pigface dripped with it. Glitch and Son of a Glitch, a compilation of live performances contains such moments as: En Esch suggestively licking Andrew Weiss' hand and sticking his face in another bandmate's crotch; Mary Byker rubbing Chris Connelly's bare chest; Nivek Ogre and Mary grinding up against each other; and lots of shirtless hugs.
• The Veronicas I'll hang onto what she said, it sounds perfect in my head in their song "Everything"

  • Jess's friendship with Ruby Rose had some really romantic/sexual undertones a while back.

  • Trent/Robin Finck is probably the most popular slash pairing, though Jeordie White/Alessandro Cortini as been gaining popularity, too.
  • Trent and his first guitarist, Richard Patrick, apparently used to make out with each other in public.
    • Trent apparently also gave Richard the nickname "Piggy", which puts some of the songs on "The Downward Spiral" in an entirely different light.
  • Longtime drummer and assistant Chris Vrenna was Trent's roommate before there was a Nine Inch Nails (circa 1986) and remained so until his deperature in 1997.
    • There's a picture on the Closure DVD of Perpetual Frowner Trent actually smiling at Chris.
  • In answer to a fan's question, Aaron North claimed to have Jerome Dillon's initials tattooed on his ass. The two were also very fond of cuddling together in unofficial photos.
• Taylor Momsen may be performing music just to get chicks because frequently at her band's shows, she call female audience members on to do naughty things with.
• Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez are very affectionate with each other, perhaps beyond friendship. Fans have speculated that Demi's song "Stop The World" which she introduced as about "being in love with someone you're not supposed to be in love with". Also while not written by Selena, "Who Says" is basically about a girl telling another how pretty she is.

• Covers of songs by the opposite sex often offer ample opportunities to elicit Ho Yay.
• Subversion of that for 'Galway Girl' originally written and (I think) sung by Sharon Shannon then quite a few other male singers. So this was Les Yay then straight
• When it initially came out there was a lot of confusion/fan arguments about whether the Terry referred to in the Bruce Springsteen song Backstreets was a boy or a girl.
• Joan Jett singing a cover of Crimson and Clover... "Well I don't hardly know her...but I think I could love her."
  • Considering she and Cherie were apparently lovers in real life that isn't surprising
• The original single version of "Stab Me In The Back" by X Japan is about male/male sex. The lyrics describe oral ("lick penis erect, taste me alive, lick penis erect") and anal "stab me in the back" is a euphemism for anal sex. Interestingly enough, guitarist hide claimed this to be his favorite song and that he "got excited" when he played it...
• Possible Epileptic Trees example: Have you ever heard the song Jessie's Girl, and thought "He's saying "I wish that I had Jessie's Girl" when he means "I wish that I was Jessie's Girl"?"
  • This troper heard that for a damn long time, and was pleasantly confused.
  • Another popular interpretation is that Jessie is also a girl.
    • Or that the singer is a girl. It explains why the point of telling Jessie's (probably heterosexual) girl that she loves her is probably moot.
• 'Don't go' by Fefe Dobson is loaded with this within it's chorus.
  • Don't go! / Boys and boys should be together. / Don't go! / Girls and girls could rule the world!
• This troper is convinced that Mr. Jones from Bob Dylan's "Ballad Of A Thin Man" is gay:
  • "You see somebody naked and you say, 'Who is that man?'/You try so hard, but you don't understand/Just what you'll say when you get home"
  • "You have many contacts among the lumberjacks"
  • "You've been with the professors and they've all liked your looks"
  • "Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you/And then he kneels/He crosses himself and then he clicks his high heels/And without further notice he asks you how it feels/And he says, 'Here is your throat back, thanks for the loan'"
  • "Give me some milk or else go home"
    • Dylan said that the song is a Take That to a music journalist, although he could have easily loaded the song with dick jokes as part of the Take That.
• The Decemberists' "The Soldiering Life" and "On The Bus Mall" both fall into this category. The latter was described by singer Colin Meloy as being the love story of "two male junky prostitutes", and the former is apparently about a relationship between two soldiers:

"But you My brother in arms I'd rather I'd lose my limbs than let you come to harm"

• The title character of Eminem's "Stan" gives off distinct Stalker with a Crush vibes. "My girlfriend's jealous 'cos I talk about you 24/7"?
  • It's not just vibes toward the end Stan tells Eminem they should be together. And Eminem's response is something along the lines of "Gaaaay".
• Even Elvis himself got in on the act back in 1957: "Number forty-seven said to number three / You're the cutest jailbird I ever did see / I sure would be delighted with your company / Come on and do the jailhouse rock with me!" When Queen would cover the King, this was one of only two verses they sang.
• John Lennon wrote the song "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away", supposedly about the fact that Brian Epstein was homosexual (at the time, homosexuality was a crime in the U.K.). However, some people interpret the song as having subtext about Epstein having romantic feelings for Lennon.
  • And the last verse of "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da," where Paul accidentally swap Desmond and Molly, giving the implication that Molly has taken over the shop for Desmond to start a music career in drag.
  • "Well, you should see Polythene Pam. / She's so good-looking, but she looks like a man. / Well, you should see her in drag dressed in her polythene bag..."
  • "Sweet Loretta Martin thought she was a woman / But she was another man / All the girls around her say she's got it coming / But she gets it while she can..."
  • And George refers to his guitar (and everything else in the world) as "diverted...perverted...inverted."
  • This Troper always wondered about the blatant difference in theme between the three love songs written by McCartney on Let it Be; I've Got A Feeling is obviously about his new fledgling relationship with Linda Eastman while Two of Us and Long and Winding Road are filled with Nostalgia and reflection for a love nearing its end. Doesn't really fit in the same context, does it?
  • On a similar note, "Oh! Darling," in which the singer desperately begs his darling not to leave him, declares that he'll never make it alone, and laments not being needed anymore, seems more likely to have been borne from the pain and sense of rejection Paul felt when he was replaced as John's partner by Yoko rather than his relationship (and by the time of the recording, new marriage) with Linda.
  • Could be considered petty, but in the song "Goodbye" Paul Mccartney sings "Far away my lover sings a lonely song and calls me to his side". Emphasis on the his, naturally. He wrote the song for Mary Hopkin I believe, so that would be why, but it's a little interesting that he either is forgetting to change the lyric or is just singing it straight. Then again there are a lot of instances of men singing songs from a female point of view.
• My Chemical Romance (stage antics aside) have some pretty Ho Yay-worthy lyrics, with song titles like "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison".
  • Especially the chorus of the above song. "Just two men like God had made us", anyone?
  • Followed a few lines later by the lyric "I kiss your lips again".
  • "My cellmates are killers / They make me do push-ups in drag", anyone?
  • "House of Wolves" sounds like their usual Crowning Music of Awesome, until you get to the chorus: "Tell me I'm a bad man / Kick me like a stray."
• Vienna Teng, as mentioned on her page, has Recessional. (Warning: Tear Jerker/Music.) It's definitely a love song and definitely to a woman, but it may be sung from a male perspective (she's said it's based on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).
• Sophie B. Hawkins (female, as you might expect). The bridge of "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" offers:

And I lay by the ocean making love to her with visions clear.

• • Yes, that's right. Her.
    • This is text in life, as Hawkins has been openly bisexual for years.
    • That explains it.
• The Killers' Hot Fuss. The entire album...but especially "Andy, You're a Star."
  • And, of course, the jarring slant rhyme in Mr. Brightside makes one suspect he indeed "wants it all":

• • And there's definitely something going on in "Somebody Told Me (That You Had a Boyfriend Who Looked Like a Girlfriend That I Had in February of Last Year)."
• Just listen to Magnet, the Vocaloid song that is typically sung by two girls. Mmmmm.

• • Or two (three?!) guys - there are plenty of male versions. Even if the song is hardly subtext, it can cause Ho Yay between real-people singers who do covers, and there are certainly enough.
  • There are also a lot of songs like this, with almost three-way Ho Yay. Complete with Len in drag.
  • Plus ones that totally go beyond subtext and are extremely dirty.
  • I'll share two more.
    • People always abuse how Len is extremely uke/shota and that his character item is a banana. And Kaito love vanilla ice cream.
  • Worlds end dance hall is very les yay
• Pete Townsend's album Empty Glass has a couple of things that make you go "Hmmmm..."; the first song, "Rough Boys", certainly seems to be about trade, with lyrics like "Rough boys/Don't walk away/I wanna buy you leather/Make noise/Try and talk me away/We can't be seen together", while another song, "And I Moved", is all about a large mysterious man coming into the singer's room, and with lyrics like "And his hands felt like ice, exciting" and "And he laid me back just like an empty dress", there isn't much doubt as to what's going on. (Heteropanicky Who fans say he wrote the song for Bette Midler and she declined to perform it so he recorded it himself, but so what? It's a song, sung by a man, about being laid down by another man; can't get much clearer than that.
• The song "Give Me Novocaine" by Green Day

Out of body and out of mind Kiss the demons out of my dreams I get the funny feeling, that's alright Jimmy says its better than air I don't know if Green Day counts, since Billie Joe came out as bisexual in 1994. They even have a song about it (Coming Clean)

• • Billie Joe Armstrong is known for regularly kissing male fans and slightly less regularly, his bandmates.
• "The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us!" by Sufjan Stevens is just dripping with this. He sings about kissing his male best friend, going into the backseat of a car, and the chorus chants "we were in love, we were in love...." It's pretty much not even subtext. Also, even though they're clearly about God, it's hard not to get a bit of a Ho Yay vibe off of songs like "To Be Alone With You" and "Vito's Ordination Song." (Rest in my arms, sleep in my bed...)
• Neutral Milk Hotel does this a lot. King of Carrot Flowers Part 1 is (most likely) about the narrator's male childhood sweetheart -- and then there's the entire first verse of Song Against Sex, which pretty much leaves the realm of subtext entirely.
• Rock'n'roll group The Coasters did a song "Charlie Brown" with the lyrics "That's him on his knees, I know that's him, yeah, from 7 come 11 down in the boys' gym". It was released in 1959, which must count as Getting Crap Past the Radar.
  • On subsequent listens, it's actually "..yelling 7 come 11" and it means he's playing dice. Ah well.
• Mika's Billy Brown is very clearly about a bisexual man. Kinda hard to deny consider it talks about a man who leaves his wife for a man, then cheats on him with a woman, then cheats on her with another man. Many assume Mika is gay or bisexual because of this song. To add to the mystery, he's never come out and said one way or another.
  • However, he has said that "Billy Brown" is not about his own life.
  • And of course, there's also "Toy Boy" by Mika:

But your momma thought there was something wrong Didn't want you sleeping with a boy too long It's a serious thing in a grown-up world Maybe you'd be better with a Barbie girl

• Dropkick Murphys' "Wicked Sensitive Crew":

(Ken) ...but do thugs have posters on their bedroom wall of that dude from The Darkness in that creepy meat suit (Record Needle Scratch) zip it so low you can see... ah... (crickets)

• Very unexpectedly from quirky British band Half Man Half Biscuit - "So me and the ombudsman are gonna do what we can, when the evening sun goes down".
• Kris Allen's The Truth. It's a fairly typical breakup song, written by Pat Monahan from Train. The album version has just Kris singing, but someone came up with the bright idea to have Monahan sing part of the song for the single version, making it sound like they're breaking up with each other.
• Katy Perry's "California Gurls" (sic) makes it sound more like she's checking out the girls than like she's trying to get a guy to check her out. Then again, it is Katy Perry, who became famous for another les-yay-ridden song.
• Sarah Jane Morris has covered "Me and Mrs. Jones". The Cover Changes the Meaning has never been more appropriate.
  • This trope also applies to Patricia O'Callaghan's cover of Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your Man".
• Te Amo by Rihanna is described in one review as "Girl meets girl. Girl speaks different language to girl. Girl loves girl. Girl doesn’t love girl. Girl sad. Girl sad."
• E-Rotic's "Queen of Light" is a confession of love to the titular Queen. It's also sung by a girl. Conclusions may be drawn.
• Lady Gaga: "So Happy I Could Die".

I love that lavender blonde. The way she moves, the way she walks. I touch myself, can't get enough.

• • This troper always got the impression that Gaga was singing about herself in that line.
• The Swedish humoristic Christmas song Vår julskinka har rymt ("Our Christmas ham has escaped"), in which two men named Werner and Werner, who apparenly at least live together, discover that their Christmas ham has escaped from the oven and they don't know what to do, because the relatives will arrive within the hour.
• A lot of Belle and Sebastian songs have this. There's at least one flavour of Yay in "Seeing Other People"; either it's two boys kissing just for practice, or it's a girl and a guy -- the latter of which is suggesting that the girl should perhaps turn her attention to girls. "Judy and the Dream of Horses" has a decidedly bisexual protagonist. "Jonathan David," in addition to the homoerotic Biblical reference, can be read to be a guy pining after another guy, who's pining after a girl -- if read in a certain way. And "She's Losing It" is just about Schoolgirl Lesbians.
• Just what were the singer and Julio doing down by the schoolyard that was so scandalous, anyway? (Paul Simon has apparently said in an interview that he doesn't actually know, but "assume[s] it was something sexual", whatever exactly that means.)
• Maaya Sakamoto has several love songs to women, the official explanation being that she's singing from a male perspective. This, however, doesn't stop songs like "A Happy Ending" (perhaps the most blatant example) from sounding kinda gay.
• Leonard Cohen's much-covered "Hallelujah" has the singer (male) addressing a person (gender not specified) with whom he has had a sexual relationship. However, the "you saw her bathing on the roof / her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you" bit suggests that the person in question has also been in a relationship with, or at least been attracted to, a woman. So it's either a man singing to a bisexual woman or a man singing to another man (also bisexual).
• In Sixpence None the Richer's "Kiss Me", the person the singer wants to kiss her apparently has a flowered hat. So it's either a woman or a real man.
• One way to interpret at least the lyrics of Mumford and Sons' "White Blank Pages" would be a gay man (since the vocals are male) singing about his heartbreak over his lover staying in the closet and with a woman.
• Kamelot's "Descent of the Archangel"; one man singing to another (well, a male character singing to another, but both played by the same vocalist).

• This troper can't believe La Roux isn't listed here yet. Not only is lead singer Elly Jackson already a Bifauxnen, Quicksand is obviously directed at a woman. Some of her other songs, Tigerlily for example, have terms that I certainly wouldn't use for a male.

• Je te donne, a duet between Jean-Jacques Goldman and Michael Jones, is about the chemistry between a songwriter and a musician. It says a lot that the song's chorus is often used for declarations of love, or even for marriage vows.
• Joe Jackson's 'Real Men' from his Night And Day album is from the point of view of a gay man who is addressing intolerance. This strongly implies that Jackson is gay. In actual fact he was just playing a role - most songs on this album address an adult theme.
• The B-52's do this constantly, having had 4 gay members (one of whom died). With the exception of the guy who died the rest of the band came out in 1992. That didn't stop them slipping in veiled references:
  • Rock Lobster features the line "Boys in bikinis, girls with surfboards"
  • 52 Girls has the girls singing the virtues of a lot of other girls...lesbian Ho Yay which may be unintentional..
  • Dirty Back Road really is about butt sex.
  • Strobe Light features the line "I want to kiss your pineapple".
  • Cake is a veiled reference to lesbian sex.
  • Song For A Future Generation humorously has most of the band pretending to be straight with Ricky Wilson's spoken line "i like computers and hot tamales" being spoken in the most camp voice imaginable.
  • Wig features pretty camp dialogue at the start.
  • Theme For A Nude Beach features the line "I am a man" sung by a woman.
  • Hot Corner features the line "He's a mess but he's really pretty" sung by Fred, who had come out by this point.
    • Fred's solo career is loaded with this but the Just Fred era "What I Want" is explicitly about gay sex, which is why it wasn't included on the album.
• "Take Me On The Floor" by The Veronicas includes the line "I wanna kiss a girl...I wanna kiss a boy...".
  • "Everytime" had "I'll hang onto what she said, it sounds perfect in my head"
• A few of The Fray 's songs seem to have some Ho Yay , especially "Over My Head."
  • That song is about a fight with the singer's brother
• Rob Thomas's "Lonely No More" contains the lyric "I wanna feel you move inside of me" metaphor for gay sex or Accidental Innuendo? You decide

Music Videos[]

• The music video for Guns N Roses' November Rain becomes screamingly hilarious (and makes a lot of sense) if you pretend it's about Axl and Izzy's bitter breakup, while Slash vents his confusion and fear over Mommy and Daddy breaking up in the form of a guitar solo.
  • You just placed the best mental image I've ever had in my head and I think I love you.
• Has no one else seen the video for 'Crazy' by Aerosmith? You could choke on the Les Yay between Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler. Also, Girls of Summer has some moments...
  • Rumor has it there was even going to be a kiss in "Crazy," but Steven Tyler nixed it.
  • And then there's Steve and Joe in general...
    • Aerosmith are a giant heaping pile of Ho Yay. It makes this fanfic-writing, Yaoi Fangirl troper very, very happy.
• In her "Never Ending Dream" music video, Cascada does everything but show live sex with a lesbian harem. It's not even much of an Intercourse with You song, either.
• The music video for "Dancing in the Street" with David Bowie and Mick Jagger.
• The All-American Reject's music video for Give You Hell plays out like a break-up between Tyson Ritter and... Tyson Ritter.
• "Telephone", with Lady Gaga and Beyonce, is dripping Les Yay of epic proportions between Beyonce and Gaga.
  • In the prison sequence, Gaga has an interrupted heavy makeout with two butch lesbians.
  • Not to mention that it borrows from a certain film that is also dripping with Les Yay.
  • On the other side, the restaurant set that was used during this video was used previously...in an adult film featuring two men.
• In this video of Sean Lennon and M's duet "L'eclipse", they just seem to be quite friendly with each other... until the ending. You must watch all the way to the ending.
• Check out Vanilla Ninja's video of "Tough Enough". Two of the girls are frequently inches away from making out, especially near the end.
• Richard Grey's "Warped Bass (Tainted Love)" video. Contains so much Les Yay, YouTube won't have it.
• Sarah Brightman's and Hot Gossip's I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper has a fair amount of Les Yay.
• As does Prince's 1999.
• The video of O-Zone's Dragostea Din Tei. They are ALL OVER each other in that video. Arms-around-neck action everywhere, and just altogether too close for it to be considered normal for anyone who's not from a country that has that closeness between straight men.
• A lot of ABBA videos have the two girls singing very close to each other(one facing ahead, the other in profile). This video for "Money Money Money" they actually look come close to kissing at 1:10.
  • In any performance of Mamma Mia, a part of their coreography is to turn to face each other at the My, my, I should not have let you go part of the lyrics.
• The video for Melodies by GAM is full of this.
• I've Sound's PV for "See You" features a brief scene of two members of the (all-female) group kissing, although it's in such tight close-up that it's hard to tell which ones.
• In an interview with Korean pop group Big Bang, G-Dragon was quoted as saying “I almost fell for T.O.P. While we’re traveling in the car, he plays jokes on me. But he’s really charming… If he were a girl, I would’ve dated him right then. He’s just that charming.”, and fellow member Seungri said "We parodied ‘Secret Garden‘ recently, and I had a kiss scene with T.O.P. His manners were really good during filming. I wondered what women would feel if I felt that as a guy."
• There's nothing overtly sexual, but still Courtney and Melissa look like very good friends in Hole's Gold Dust Woman video.
• For a song called "Sexy Bitch", Akon and David Guetta seem to barely interact with the women. Instead, they hold hands, jump into the pool together, and are generally extremely close throughout the video.
• In "Raise Your Glass", Pink is seen in bed with a young nun.
• The video for Amanda Palmer's "What's the Use in Won'drin?" seems to be setting up a story of a battered wife who's secretly in love with a female friend until the last thirty seconds or so, when it makes a distinct turn for the darker.
• Rammstein were mentioned earlier up the page, but their music videos are sometimes filled to the brim with Ho Yay. Mann Gegen Mann is the obvious example, but Haifisch also applies. While every other band member is dreaming about killing Till, Paul is imagining Till spanking him. Make of that what you will.
