A 2006 Nickelodeon movie about Otis, a cow version of a Man Child, and a party animal who becomes frightened at the possibility of having to grow up and accept responsibility as the leader of the Barnyard. Otis is elected as the new leader and must look out for all the other animals and tell them when it's the best time for them to go around on their two feet. There's a pregnant cow voiced by Courtney Cox in the plot there somewhere and some Big Bad coyotes, but for the most part, it's pretty confusing.

Needs Wiki Magic Love.

Barnyard provides examples of:

  • Advertised Extra:
    • Otis' father, Ben, is a minor character in the movie. But he appears in the promo pictures and trailers and his actor, Sam Elliott, is third billed on the credits list. He has a major role in the first act of the movie.
    • The film's Big BadDag the Coyote, has less screen time than Ben. But he also appears in the promo pictures and his actor, David Koechner, is last billed in the credits list. He first appears as a cameo character at the end of the first act and plays a major role in the third and final act of the movie.
  • All CGI Cartoon
  • All Just a Dream: The animals pull this on the farmer after he catches them partying.
  • Animal Gender Bender: The "male cow" with an udder, of course.
    • To be fair, bulls have nipples, but they don't have udders.
  • Babies Make Everything Better
  • Back Stab: Dag's way of killing seems to be sneaking around and biting his opponent in the back while they're occupied with his minions.
  • Big Bad: Dag the Coyote.
  • Big Damn Movie: The movie is this in the Barnyard franchise. The villain in the movie is a dangerous coyote who plots to take the chicks. The heroes are lots of farm animals who lead a revolution against him.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In the third and final act, all the farm animals do this to Otis.
  • Big Good: Ben is the leader of the Barnyard. Otis becomes this starting with the second act.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: In his Establishing Character Moment, Dag is at first a Nice Guy to the chicks and Ben's best friend. He turns out to be a savage, ruthless, thieving, and dangerous carnivore who betrayed and murdered Ben and plots to capture the chicks and eat them up.
  • Bloodless Carnage: Despite having been mauled by coyotes, Ben is perfectly fine save for a little bit of blood around his mouth. He dies, of course.
  • Cassandra Truth: Mrs. Beady is the only one who realizes that cows hijacked her car and throw nightly parties.
  • Down in the Dumps: The coyotes have a base in one.
  • Drop the Cow: Happens to a group of coyotes in the final battle.
  • Evil All Along: Dag was at first a Nice Guy, but he turns out to be a savage coyote.
  • Expy: Dag the Coyote is similar to Scar. He betrays and kills the Big Good (Mufasa and Ben). At the finale, he is defeated by the old Big Good's son (Simba and Otis).
  • Heroic BSOD: Otis after being beaten by the coyotes.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Ben dies while protecting the chickens from Dag as the first act ends.
  • Mook Chivalry: Averted hard.
  • Parental Abandonment: Ben found Otis as a orphaned calf following him in the fields, so he decided to raise him.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Otis attempts one it doesn't end well
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: One of the coyotes when Pip went inside his ear.
  • Spin-Off: Back at the Barnyard.
  • Talking Animal: Arguably the main point until Ben dies
  • Tastes Like Chicken: The resident weasel quotes this upon biting a coyote.
  • Those Wily Coyotes: Dag
  • Vile Villain Saccharine Show: For a movie about farm animals that like to party, the coyotes can be pretty terrifying.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Dag is last seen near the end of the final battle getting hit by Otis with a golf club.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Despite having Otis pinned down and wounded twice, Dag gloats and lets him recover for no discernible reason, even when it would guarantee his victory.
  • You Killed My Father: Otis's father Ben was killed by Dag while he was protecting the chickens.
  • Zerg Rush: Seems to be the Dag's chief way of dealing with obstacles.
