A heavily acclaimed author of books for adults and children, Amy Tan is quite famous for writing about first and second generation Chinese-American immigrants and Chinese culture. Among many achievements, she's notable for elevating Chinese characters, and Asian characters in general, beyond stereotypes and making people take them seriously as people, and not just as nerds.
Branched out into producing for the movie based on her book The Joy Luck Club and even wrote the screenplay, making the movie a rare case of the author being having a say in a film based on their book. She also has dogs that she calls her children.
