  • Old Shame: None of the main human cast members had any major success after ALF, and all four actors playing the Tanner family have since retired (possibly as a result) from acting.
  • Screwed by the Network: NBC promised that even if they canceled the show, they would make sure there would be an episode to resolve the Season 4 cliffhanger; they went back on that.
    • Damn them!
    • The only people that cared about the cancellation were the viewers. Every single person working on the show hated their job. After filming the last scene in the final episode Max Wright just flat out walked to his car, drove away, and never spoke to anyone in the cast again. No goodbyes were had. One actress said that if they had stayed for one more season, there was no way they would make it out alive. It was apparently soul-shatteringly miserable.
      • Fortunately, from what I've heard, he doesn't consider the show an Old Shame, acknowledging in interviews how much joy Alf (the show and character) has brought to the world over the years.
      • In fact when the TV Movie came about, none of the Tanners appeared. Gee what a shock.
